P2A Week Beginning 25th October 2021

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Green Table:

Kayla loved making Hallowe’en art!  The children had 4 activities to choose from: making spooky pumpkin lanterns, paper plate cats/bats/witches, making witchy feet or spooky handprints.  Kayla made a super paper plate witch!  Unfortunately, due to the rain, they had to go in the school bags so they may need patching up a little.

Nathan really enjoyed the ‘Mummy Game’ were two teams were in a race to see who could be wrapped up as a mummy the fastest with a toilet roll!  Well done to Ruari’s team who won!

Ben liked writing poems this week.  The children examined a poem called ‘When the Wind Blows’ and then created their own weather poem in groups.  We had some fantastic ideas such as ‘Crisp packets float’ and ‘Branches wave’.  Well done P2A!

Emily enjoyed listening to a story about children who rescued a dog from a Dog’s Home.  There were so many dogs to choose from!  Some were too loud, too quiet, too naughty and too lazy but in the end they found one that was just right!  The children were giggling when Mrs Devlin told them about a naughty guinea pig she had once who ate a big hole in one of her curtains!

Isabel loved our Word Boost book this week called ‘Love From Lousia’.

Pola liked the Hallowe’en Corners game we played today.  Congratulations to Julia, our winner!

My highlight was the Hallowe’en art.  All the fantastic pieces where placed around the room as part of our Hallowe’en decorations.  The classroom looked great!

P7B Update

A great week of learning in P7B this week. Here are some of our highlights:

Sneha enjoyed working on suffixes and using different addition and subtraction strategies in her learning. She also enjoyed the Halloween activities with her P1 buddy.

Owen enjoyed maths this week, exploring the terms mean, median, mode and range. He liked having a free slot in the class timetable to prepare fun thing to do with the P1 buddies.

Abdullah enjoyed health and wellbeing this week, he liked exploring all about choices and consequences. He also liked out discussion on racism and identity.

Beth liked when Father Simon joined us in class and talked all about what it means to be a good person. She also enjoyed numeracy and IDL.

Alicja enjoyed making clocks this week, looking at what we notice about clock faces. We noticed some fantastic features: it’s a circle, the numbers range from 1-12, they are in chronological order, and the numbers adjacent each other add to 12, to name a few! Well done P7.

Kayleigh liked out discussion on differences and identity. She also enjoyed meeting up with her buddy.

Alex agreed with this, he was very interested in learning about people’s identities and discussing racism. Alex also enjoyed our work on the order of operations this week in maths – BODMAS.

A great week P7B! Have a fantastic weekend.

P6A 29th October 2021

This week we have learned about the Global Goals – there are 17 and we will be learning about them in more depth over the next few weeks. We have continued to think about our school values.

Friendship, TRUST, Respect, Happiness, Kindness, Teamwork and Self-Belief

We know that our words can make people feel welcome in our class and in our school. In Art we learned about one point perspective.

This week we have been learning about similes (with a halloween theme) and on Thursday we were able to write imaginative poems using similes. This was a lot of fun choosing ghoulish words. We continued to learn different mental math strategies.  In our Religious lessons we wrote prayers to thank God for things we have in our life and to ask for help with something we are concerned about.

Next week we will be continue our topic Earth Heroes which is about Conservation and Sustainability with a focus on COP 26.

This is a selection of some of our learning this week.

P2A Week Beginning 18th October 2021

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Blue Table:

John loved it when he was the first person whose name went up on our new class ‘Recognition Board’.  Even though his hands were full, he still managed to help another pupil pick up their belongings as they had hurt their hands.  So kind of you John!

Rebekah enjoyed our learning this week of words that had the ‘th’ sound.  She particularly liked ‘thunder’.

Ella loved playing ‘Hungry Hippos’ with the Numicon 10 pieces when the children had to find the answer to doubles and half questions.

Ollie liked to hear that our new topic is ‘Weather and the Water Cycle’.  The children let me know a whole host of things they wish to learn about the weather.  Ollie is excited to learn all about snow.

My highlight was seeing the children again after the holiday and my absence.  I had missed them a great deal.  I hope you all had a lovely week during the holiday.

We welcome a new pupil to our St John Ogilvie family, Babafola.  We hope he enjoys our time with us and makes lots of new friends!

P2B Highlights for Week Beginning 18th October 2021

Hello P2B Families,

We have started a new topic, weather, and have been practicing saying them in Spanish and made our own weather mobiles. The children shared what they would like to learn about weather and we will be finding out the answers to these over the next few weeks.

Here are some highlights from the Green table:

Alex – I liked doing our thumb prints with the ink pad and also the tape because it was so cool to see the line and shapes. I liked looking at my  finger under the light to see the swirl.

Georgia – I liked doing rekenreks in maths because it was fun to make the numbers on them.

Flynn – I liked that I am a lead learner because I was doing really good writing and I got a bouncy ball from the prize box.

Vinayakarthik – It was fun to make the weather mobile.

Ella – I liked the weather mobile too because I liked colouring the pictures and now it can kind of tell us the weather.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

We all came back to school on Tuesday after a nice holiday break. We started the day with spelling and grammar then we had a session to develop our thinking skills with Mrs McLaughlin by exploring clues in pictures then in the afternoon (after math) we created some simple winter sketches. We also discussed Children’s Rights – Article 16 – every child has the right to Privacy and what that means to us in our everyday life.

It is Black History Month and on Wednesday we discussed racism and investigated the life of Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. In the afternoon we created a collage of pictures showing our understanding of TRUST this is one of our important school values.

Friendship, TRUST, Respect, Happiness, Kindness, Teamwork and Self-Belief

On Thursday we wrote descriptive poems about imaginative things we would put in a Magic Box. This was a lot of fun choosing descriptive words. We learned some different mental math strategies for multiplication and division in the afternoon. This morning after completing our Big Maths and CLIC challenges, we had a great time mounting out Greek artwork to bring home and share with our families. We also finished our emotions fortune tellers which we will also bring home today.

Next week we will be starting our new topic Earth Heroes which is about Conservation and Sustainability.

P4A 22nd October 2021

Wow – What a week!  It may have been a short week but we have had an exciting one full of experiences.

We have been working on performance poetry this week and everyone in the class has worked in a group to act or read poetry to the class.  We are now writing our own performance poems, using sounds we hear in everyday life and rhyme.

In maths, we revised how to lay out our column sums in our jotters and we all know the importance of making sure the numbers are in the correct columns.  We are excited to be working on exchanging numbers next week.

In class, we have been reading the novel “The Boy Who Grew Dragons” and have taken part in lots of activities relating to the story.   We have drawn dragon eyes, created our own dragons and written about them and drawn dragonfruits.  This week has been the most exciting as we tasted dragonfruit!  Everyone tasted it and most of us thought it was ok but it didn’t really have any taste to it.  The dragonfruit looked like a red egg with spikes and in our story dragons grow inside them.

We are all looking forward to more learning next week!
