Primary 5A and Miss Ventisei

Hello everyone! Miss Ventisei and P5A have had a wonderful second week back at school! Everyone has settled into our new classroom really well and we are looking forward to the year ahead. This week we have been revising our knowledge of place value and rounding in maths- the children particularly enjoyed the maths games and ‘play dough place value’! We also paid a visit to the school woodland this week where we have been working really hard to clear and weed the area. Our class favourite moments of the week include:

  • Playing football in the MUGA at playtime
  • Playing basketball during P.E. with Mrs Lafferty
  • Engaging with lots of fun games and activities during numeracy
  • Reading our class novel (Wonder by Rj Palacio)
  • Visiting the solar system through a virtual tour (Miss Ventisei also loved this!)

Over the next few months we will be visiting the woodland area for outdoor learning every Thursday afternoon. If possible, it would be helpful if your child could bring some wellies/boots and old, warm clothes to wear outdoors on this day.

Primary 5B Weekly Blog 26th August 2022

This week we have been investigating place value and 2D and 3D shape in our Math lessons. We have also been working on developing punctuation and grammar in sentences.

On Tuesday we started our class topic about the Scottish Wars of Independence. We had a chat about what we knew and what we wanted to find out then we did a little bit of research using the netbooks. We  also had a welcome back to school assembly in the hall. Ready, Respectful and Safe are our key school rules and it is kind and respectful to treat everyone we meet the way we want to be treated.

On Wednesday we had Music and PE in the afternoon and had a great time.

On Thursday we had a great time outside in the woods. We were cutting back brambles and weeding to give more space for the plants in the wood to grow bigger.

On Friday we had Pe and had our first French lesson in Primary 5. We learned to say bonjour and salut.

On a Wednesday and Friday P5B pupils are asked to come wearing PE kit with school sweater/cardigan. On a Thursday we have Outdoor Learning, which can be muddy, so if children could come in/with old shoes or wellies.

Our Class Charter linked to Childrens rights should be finished next week. Weekly homework will be given on a Monday and returned to school on a Friday or posted in Teams by Friday.

Thank you to Emma and James for being wonderful Lead Learners last week they worked hard to encourage everyone to be the best they could be. I’m sure our new Lead Learners Jessica and Maja will be awesome.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll look forward to seeing everyone again next week. Mrs Miller

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 26th August 2022

This week we have been learning how to write the numbers 0 and 1. We wrote these in our new maths jotters.

We have been discussing how we can be Ready, Respectful and Safe. We have met Ready Rosie, Respectful Raheem and Safe Sam.  We are remembering to use kind hands and feet and kind voices.

We read ‘A Little Spot of Happiness’ and learned about how important it is to make people happy. We made a talking sentence about when we feel happy and drew the picture using black pen.

We have been learning about all the rules during Choosing Our Own Learning and we are  experts at tidying up!

On Tuesday we had assembly with Mrs McKissack.  She was talking about our school rules and our school values. We got special stickers because we listened very well for a long time.

Our personal highlights this week are:

Vedansh – I enjoyed colouring in my candle for the birthday display and seeing my buddy.

Eve – I enjoyed playing with my buddies.

Oliver – I enjoyed playing with the wooden roads.

Lillian – I enjoyed playing with my buddy and making lots of new friends.

Aarav – I enjoyed playing with the straws.  I built a house with Vedansh.

Miss Stebbing – This week I have loved seeing everyone try their best to write their numbers and to draw fantastic pictures about what makes them happy. I am also very impressed with all the Responsible Readers during ERIC time.

Congratulations to Alexander who was our hot chocolate at home winner this week.

P7A Weekly Highlights

Dear Parents,

A busy first full week in Primary 7A and everyone is well settled into the new routines and more importantly happy.

Lots of learning going on across the curriculum with Topic lessons on ‘Scotland through the Decades’, French greetings, reading and getting our photos taken with our buddies, Literacy and Maths Assessments, reading our class novel ‘Millions’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce, drama, PE and music!

My personal highlight of the week has been seeing and hearing how wonderful P7A are at using manners. They are incredibly polite and understand the importance of treating each other with respect. Well done P7 and, of course, their parents!

P7 have a few highlights too:

Millan, Alessio and Jack said, “I enjoyed acting in drama class.”

“I liked mental maths,” says Monty.

Lily reports that, “I enjoyed going up to the woodlands and making clay faces.”

Zahra, Junaid and Tanvi all said, ” I really enjoyed meeting my buddy and playing with them.”

Some Woodland Art using clay and found materials.

Using own devices during Fun Friday, reward time for good behaviour and hard work, was a very popular choice.

Next week will be board games!

Have a Great Weekend!

Our Week P4A 26.08.22

Mrs Ross is very happy to be in P4A with us. She says we are an amazing class.

It’s been a busy week.

We were learning maths and place value and digits in a number. I think it was fun.

In PE, we were playing hockey. We learned that we have to keep the ball close to the stick and the stick close to the ground otherwise you might hit someone. We should always use the flat side not the curved side of the stick.

With Mrs Morrison we learned what a beam quaver, quaver and crotchet are for music.

We have been writing sentences. Trying to remember full stops, finger spaces and capital letters to start. It is important to read over our sentences.

We listened to some instructions to draw some really cool ice creams.

We have had 2 birthdays this week and we are sad to say goodbye to one of our friends who is moving and we wish her lots of luck and fun in her new school.

Our Hot Chocolate at home winner this week is Anshika. She is a good friend and respectful to others in the class.

P5B Weekly Blog 19th August 2022

What a great first week in Primary 5! On Tuesday we created our weekly timetable to help us plan this terms learning.

P5B pupils agreed that Math lessons first every morning would be the best way to start the school day. They decided Literacy should come after morning break. In the afternoons we will have Topic, Science, Art, PE, Music and Outdoor Learning. We also have PE on a Friday Morning as well.

On a Wednesday and Friday P5B pupils are asked to come wearing PE kit with school sweater/cardigan. On a Thursday we have Outdoor Learning, which can be muddy, so if children could come in/with old shoes or wellies.

This week we have been collaborating in small groups to create our Class Charter which we will post when it is completed. Our Class Charter is linked to Childrens rights

P5B lead learners will update our blog every week and will add photographs of the learning pupils are taking part in. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll look forward to seeing everyone again next week. Mrs Miller
