P4A Learning this week 25th March 2022

This week we started looking  at expositions.  We learned this was persuasive writing telling one side of the story.  We watched some adverts for Ikea and Iphones and looked at printed adverts.  We then worked out what the purpose of the adverts were and who the intended audience was.  We also enjoyed a persuasive poem about cats.

In maths we worked with function machines.   Bentley learned that there is “inputs and outputs” and Dawid learned that “process is the job it does in the middle”.

Liliana enjoyed “PE because we had lots of different equipment out and it was fun.  I learned how to do a back walkover off a piece of equipment.”  and Emili “learned how to do a front walkover.”

Tyler liked learning about the gladiators who fought at the colosseum.  Eilidh, Max and Carina enjoyed creating a newspaper article all about their ‘Night at the Collosseum’

Jacob liked hearing the story of Joseph and his brothers.  He couldn’t believe that his brothers would tell such lies!  Farrah liked designing a beautiful and colourful coat for Joseph.  She used lots of different rainbow patterns and dots.

Our hot chocolate this week is Emili.  Well done and keep up the hard work.  Our new reading champion is Liliana.

We are looking forward to our last week before Easter and learning all about the Easter Story!

Daisy: I liked writing my information report on Florence Nightingale for HW.

Elizabete: I liked making the water posters for national water day.

Joshua D: I liked reading and looking at the different exposition texts.

Vanessa: I liked measure objects in the classroom. We had to estimate the length first and then measure in cm using a ruler.

Natalia: I liked making the water posters.

Josh N : I liked measuring the width and height of the windows, doors and chimneys of a house on our worksheet.

Teacher Highlights: I am really impressed with how quickly we have understood the purpose of an exposition text. The pupils can identify the structure of this text

Title

Statement of Position

Series of Arguments

Concluding Statement

Our hw next week will involve looking at an exposition example and identifying the main arguments, the evidence, the purpose and audience.

Hot Chocolate Winner: Congratulations to Joshua D for being so focused every day at school.

P2A Week Beginning 14th March

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Yellow Table:

Aiden G loved making his grass head.  The children are growing grass as a follow up to a book week activity as well as learning about what plants need to survive.  They personalised them with different facial features.  They are looking forward to watching them grow and eventually being able to give them a haircut!

Pola liked learning about the moon.  We saw images of it up close on the NASA website and watched the very first moon landing!  We practised saying, “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” in an American accent.

Ruari enjoyed our St Patrick’s Day craft.  I hope you enjoyed the pictures on Seesaw.

Rebekah liked our Word Boost story, ‘Owen and the Mountain’.  Her favourite word was ‘enter’.  Mrs Devlin says this word each day in Spanish as the children enter the room.

Eva loved PE with Mrs Lafferty this week as the children continue to develop their gymnastics skills.

Kyle said the highlight of his week was writing a list about what he would pack for a trip to the moon.  He said he would definitely need to take a book to enjoy.

My highlight was our Day of Prayer activities on Friday.  The children where split into small groups and each had a P7 helper.  Clipboard in hand, they went into the playground in search for different items in nature.  Upon finding these items, they ticked them off on the chart and gathered together in their group where the P7 led them in prayer, thanking God for his beautiful creation.  Thank you P7s for your support with our P2s.  You were very responsible and respectful.

P2B – Week Beginning 14th March 2022

Hello Parents,

We have had a fantastic week! This week we have enjoyed doing more topic work and had lots of fun making some space art. We have created a Solar System display in our window, remember to have a look when you go past! We have also been learning some more Spanish and will be using it daily – the children enjoyed playing a lotto game with the Spanish days of the week and like to remind me that there is no capital letter for Spanish days of the week.

Pictures below are the children as astronauts floating about in space and visiting the moon!

Today we enjoyed taking part in a prayer walk – we had to find various things outside and when we found them in our groups, our P7 leader would help us say a special prayer. Thank you to all of the P7s, it was super!

Highlights from the Blue table:

Daniel – I liked PE because I like doing cartwheels on the mats.

Sean – I liked doing the space art but it was tricky to make the stars on the paper and not go everywhere.

Moeez – I liked PE, doing rolls on the mats and going on the bench.

Rowan – I liked PE best because I did a cartwheel and landed on my feet!

Nicolas – I liked doing the prayer walk because we found them all.

Olek –  I liked the prayer walk too because my group found everything first, it was so fast.

Well done to Moeez, our hot chocolate award winner.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

P1B 18th March

Lots of super learning in P1B this week.

This week we learned the sounds oi and ou. We enjoyed carrying out activities such as formation in flour and making cloud books.

We have been practising our addition of double numbers and linked it to subtraction by looking at halving numbers.

We planted seeds to observe how seeds grow into plants and wrote instructions on how to plant a seed.

We also learned about the human life cycle and looked at similarities and differences between humans. We continued our learning of mini beasts and used ChatterPix to talk sentences about which mini beast we thought was the best.

This week we helped Mrs Russell celebrate St Patricks Day and made some fantastic hats.

We finished the week working with our P7 friends doing a Prayer Trail in the playground.

P6B Learning highlights- week beginning 14.3.22

Good afternoon,

A great week of learning in Primary 6B! Here are some of our highlights:

Literacy: We started our week with a visit from Mrs Amatler and took part in a lesson on clarifying. We were able to use our skills in reading to clarify the meaning of some unusual words. We have also been learning about expositional/persuasive writing and have created our own word banks that we can use to help us in our writing.

Numeracy: We have used our knowledge of fractions, decimals and times tables to help us complete equations. We enjoyed working out what number the letters or shapes represented. We also took part in the West Lothian Sumdog competition and came 9th out of 142 classes that qualified! On Thursday we were also the daily winner and gained the highest score for that day. Mrs Roy was very impressed with the teamwork and motivation across both P6 classes!

IDL/Art: We completed our Loch Ness monsters by painting them and gluing them down ready to take home.

Positive recognition: On Friday our class got an extra break as we have been keeping our table in the lunch hall clean and tidy in order to show we are being safe and respectful towards others.

The rights of the child: We have completed our work on articles 2, 12 and 30 to show that we all have the same rights no matter what our beliefs are or where we come from and this should always be respected.

Over and above: Well done to our hot chocolate winner Olly!

Thank you for your continued support, Have a great weekend!

Mrs Roy

Primary 1A Learning Highlights 18th March 2022

This week has been a very busy week in P1A.  We have been doing lots of work on our topic about living things.  We learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly and made a poster about this using different pasta.  We also discussed all the things that a baby needs and we have had a house corner with two dolls in the classroom to practise looking after them.  In writing, we have been learning about exposition texts and we have to try and persuade people.  We chose between a bee and a butterfly to say which one we thought was the best.  We used Chatterpix to record our sentences.  We also made our own bees during art and we had to use our cutting skills.

In maths we have been learning about estimating.  We have also started learning about the greater than and less than symbols.  We watched Numberblocks and saw Blockzilla who likes the biggest number.  We noticed its mouth had the greater than or less than symbol.

During Outdoor Learning we saw some daffodils growing.  We had to take some shelter in the gazebo when the rain got very heavy!  We played with the loose parts for a while and saw our buddies who had been in the Woodland tidying up the rubbish.  We are looking forward to going back up to the Woodland next week.

Some of our personal highlights this week are:

Chimamanda – I enjoyed playing with the babies in the house.

Caiden – I liked playing with the dinosaurs.

Vivien – I enjoyed colouring in at Creative Zone.

Diana – I enjoyed learning about butterflies.

Linda – I enjoyed learning about the lifecycles of things.

Zion – I enjoyed playing in Creative Zone.

Rory – I loved doing gymnastics at PE.

P3A – WB 14.03.22

Exposition or Persuasive text

Dear Readers,

Here are our highlights for the week:

  • In Literacy, we have learned everything about the structure, goal and language of a persuasive piece of writing and have practised writing one collaboratively about the importance of having a good breakfast. As it was team work and almost all of us have had an active part in writing it, we are attaching it to this post for you to see as well. We have also had our usual New spelling words, Word Boost and weekly spelling assessment, of course!
  • In Maths, we have started working on the 4 times table and have also been revising our 2,3,5 and 10 ones. We have worked on data handling by making a bar graph, a tally chart and answering questions about the information displayed on both.  It was particularly interesting learning how to sort things into a Venn diagram and we managed very well!
  • Our Topic, George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl is very interesting and funny and we have tried to predict what it will be about just by looking at the front cover and back cover where we read the blurb!
  • We have walked in the playground with love heart frames with the P7 pupils who took pictures of us thanking God for everything that was made by him and that is given to us everyday, including flowers, pets, worms and others.

It has been a lovely week in P3A and we hope you have enjoyed finding out about our weekly highlights!
