P6B learning highlights

Dear parents,

This week we have had a great week in primary 6. We have been very busy and would like to share some of our learning highlights with you.

Literacy: We have enjoyed learning about punctuation and successfully added it to our writing.

Numeracy: We have been working on fractions this week and our knowledge of times tables and division has really helped with this. We also learned about 2D and 3D shapes.

R.E: This week we made posters on the Catholic faith and also worked on the gift of knowledge in our Pope Francis Faith award books. We also got to spend some time talking to Father Simon and ask lots of interesting questions.

STEM: This week we enjoyed our STEM challenges. We worked in pairs to see who could build the tallest tower using one sheet of paper and created our 3D bear.

Over and above: Congratulations to Zak who has went over and above in school and at home this week. He has followed our school rules of ready, respectful and safe, well done!

P1A Learning Highlights 26th November 2021

This week we have been very busy practising for our Nativity.  The stage is now up and we got a chance to sit on the stage in our places.  The staff are very proud of how well we are doing with our singing, words and actions.  The best part is seeing all the great dancing!

In maths we have been learning about making stories for 7 and 8.  We used the Numicon to help us and we are getting very good at remembering the numbers that add to make 7 and 8.  We also started playing Eggs to Order on the Smartboard.  It can be tricky because the numbers are muddled up and we have to think carefully about where they go.

This week we learned two new sounds ‘b’ and ‘f’.  We are making words using the sounds we know.  The literacy activity trays changed this week and we have enjoyed using the Alphablocks lolly sticks to make words and practise our sounds.  In writing we made posters to tell people to keep our oceans clean. We watched a video about pollution in the oceans to help us.

Today we were very excited because the Christmas decorations have been put up in the area.  We also got an Advent Calendar from the PFA to help us count down to Christmas.

Some of our personal highlights are –

Aadya – I have enjoyed playing in creative zone.

Rory – I have enjoyed building things with the lego.

Vivien – I have enjoyed making things in creative zone.

Laura – I have enjoyed reading books.

Hasika – I liked seeing the Christmas decorations.

Caleb – I enjoyed playing with the transformers.

Linda – I enjoyed playing outside.

P2A Week Beginning 22nd November

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Green Table:

Nathan enjoyed our learning about the Water Cycle this week.  He found the part about how rain always makes its way to a collection of water very interesting.  This could be a river, stream, lake etc.

Babafola said his favourite part of the week was learning about how to feel happy when we feel sad.  We filled a toolbox full of ideas of things to do that will make us feel better.  Some ideas where: singing, listening to music, arts and crafts, a hug, playing with our toys, exercising, smiling…..The most important idea was the one about speaking to someone about how we are feeling.

Emily loved music with Mrs Morrison the best.

Ben like dancing at PE in preparation for the Christmas Party!

Kayla said she loved speaking into the microphone during our Nativity rehearsals.

Isabel liked being on the stage.  She said it is very high but Mrs Devlin reassured her that it was not too high and the more she practised on it, the more comfortable she would feel.

My highlight has to be the conversation about feelings and how we can feel better.  We started by listening to a story called ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’ about a giraffe that was sad.  Well done P2A for your super ideas!  I hope you remember them the next time you want to feel better.

Next on Wednesday we did a personal recount in writing and did some more St. Andrew’s day prep.

After that on Thursday we read more of our class novel ‘Millions’ before completing a comprehension task. In the afternoon we worked really hard in Spanish with Mrs Bradley.

Lastly, on Friday we started our Sumdog competition and this time we are going to get first place!

P2B Week Beginning 22nd November 2021

P2B have been practicing our nativity and this week the stage was built which was really exciting to watch and practice on. Ismaeel, Addison and Haadiya all said their favourite thing this week was being up on the stage. Scott also liked the nativity practice because he got to use a microphone when reading his lines.

Ksawery  and Cohen enjoyed learning about the water cycle and making water cycle wheels on paper plates. Ksawery phoned a family friend in Poland on FaceTime to show them his water cycle and explain how it works. Cohen thought it was so much fun to colour the pictures in and make the rain drop go round and round.

My favourite activity this week was writing as the children were writing their own stories linked to ‘The Biggest Story’ book that was in the Book Bug Bags. Last week we drew pictures in a comic book style and then used describing words to explain what was happening in our story called about ‘it starts on the stormy sea…’

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lawrence

P6A Weekly Blog 15th November 2021

This week it was Anti-Bullying week we were encouraged to share kindness with everyone in school because one kind word leads to another. Kindness fuels kindness.

. We made connections to our Childrens Rights

  • Article 2 – Non-discrimination: The Convention applies to every child without discrimination, whatever their ethnicity, gender, religion, language, abilities or any other status, whatever they think or say, whatever their family background.
  • Article 12Respect for the views of the child: Every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.
  • Article 19  Protection from violence, abuse and neglect: Governments must do all they can to ensure that children are protected from all forms of violence, abuse, neglect and bad treatment.

This week as part of Catholic Education Week we have been learning about the Pope Francis Faith Award awarded by the Bishops’ Conference of Scotland, designed to help children to show “signs of love” in their daily lives and to be active members of their local Church.  It invites young people at the Primary 6 and 7 stages to use the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and to see how they can bear fruit in their homes, schools and parishes.

We have we have been selecting two Junior Road Safety Officers. One from P6A and one from P6B, Most children in Primary 6 wanted to take part and completed an application form. They will be helping lead us find ways to be safer travelling to and from school throughout this year.

In our Technology lesson we have been working cooperatively to create a paper bear. We will post a picture next week when we have completed it. As part of our topic we are continuing to use technology to research Climate Change Activists.

It’s been a very busy week. Enjoy the weekend.

P2A Week Beginning 15th November

Hello P2A families!

Here are the learning highlights of the week from the Blue Table:

Rebekah loved when we made a comic this week and used pictures to tell a story (look out for these story pictures on Seesaw over the weekend).  This was a follow up lesson to ‘THE BIGGEST STORY’, a book from our ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags.

John enjoyed it when we became bug collectors like George in ‘The Bug Collector’ story, again from our ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags.  We took containers up to the woodlands and searched for bugs.  It was quite tricky as we had to look under a carpet of wet, Autumn leaves.  We then used the magnifying glasses to see if we could see colours and shapes within the bugs’ bodies, just like George did in the story.  We were careful to return them to their natural habitats afterwards.

Ollie said he enjoyed our school assembly this morning which was all about celebrations in our lives and in the Church.  Here is the link to one of the songs we listened to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kog4QkDT4Ho if your child wishes to listen to it again.

Lucas loved it when we learned how to cross a road.  This week, as well as it being ‘Book Week’, it has also been ‘Road Safety Week’.  The class went up to the zebra crossing next to our school and demonstrated their learning about how to cross a road: stop behind the curb, look and listen for cars, keep looking and listening as you walk across the road.  We know to hold an adult’s hand as we cross the road.  Well done Lucas!  You crossed the road safely.

Ella liked it when we voted for the two stories we have been exploring this week (mentioned above).  ‘The Bug Collector’ won the vote as it received 20 votes and ‘THE GREATEST STORY’ received only 5.

My highlight was seeing the children pore over their P1 jotters when they were given out to go home.  They were so excited and enjoyed their trip down memory lane.  It was so fantastic to see how they recognised the progress they have made this year within themselves!
