Primary 1B Learning Highlights 20th February 2026

This week we have been learning all about Lent. We learned all about Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Some of us went to Mass at St Peter’s on Wednesday to receive our ashes and we were praised for our excellent behaviour. We have drawn pictures on footprints of what we are going to do during Lent for a display in the area.

On Tuesday, we had pancakes and used them to practise making half during maths. It was great fun and we got to eat our maths work! We also used little plastic pancakes to make half of a given quantity.

In Literacy, we have been learning all about the ‘qu’ sound. We have been reading lots of words and writing them too.

In PE, we have been practising our throwing and catching skills. We used beanbags and scarves to help us with this.

We have started a new topic all about Minibeasts. We are very excited about this topic and came up with lots of things that we want to learn about. During Outdoor Learning, we used magnifying glasses to see if we could find any minibeasts in the Woodland.

We all agreed that the highlight of the week was eating pancakes!

Congratulations to Aria, who is our Hot Chocolate Winner this week. She always tries hard with her learning tasks and is a good friend to everyone. Well done to Mikayla, who is our Reading Champion for this fortnight. She has shown confidence in reading CVC words.
