Happy Book Week Scotland!

On Monday, there were boxes wrapped up in our classroom. When we ripped them open we found our Bookbug and Read Write Count Bags. We had lots of fun exploring the contents and then we went to read in the staffroom! We have read in lots of interesting places this week including Mrs McKissack’s Office and in the Woodland.

We have taken part in lots of different activities using the contents of our bags.  Here are some of the activities we completed for each book.

The Eyebrows of Doom.

We made our own eyebrows of doom on put them on our photos to look like the front cover. We calculated the cost of different ice creams and toppings using our adding skills. We made our own Dave the Bear characters and acted out scenes from the story.

10 Dogs

We made the bonds of 10 using sausages and frying pans, not real ones though! We also learned about tally marks.

The Bongles and The Crafty Crows

We talked about passwords and passcodes and how these need to be kept secret.

The Quickest Bedtime Story Ever

We talked about how important sleep is and sorted things that were good and not good for sleep.

My First Book of Dinosaurs

We measured out the lengths of different dinosaurs and saw how many children long they were.

How to Make a Story

We used cards to make up our own stories. We were very excited to see which cards we got and were confident in making the stories.

We also took part in 2 competitions run by the Reader Leaders and the Librarians. We also had the opportunity to meet with our Reading Buddies from P6 and we can’t wait to read again with them. Another activity that was very exciting was an Authors Live event with Axel Scheffler. We got to draw along with him to make a picture of the Gruffalo and Jonty the Gentoo. Our pictures were fantastic!

It has been a fantastic week of learning!

Some of our personal highlights are:

Harrison – I enjoyed reading in the staffroom.

Hallie – I enjoyed making up the stories.

Elsie – I enjoyed making my own eyebrows of doom.

Vihaan – I enjoyed saying the stories.

Miles – I enjoyed reading The Eyebrows of Doom.

Congratulations to our Hot Chocolate winner this week who has worked very hard during Book Week and has shown a great enthusiasm for all the books.
