On Monday, Primary 6 continued their learning about Fairtrade. The Childrens Rights Articles were linked to World Book Day. So far we have had great class discussions, created posters and shared information about our favourite books. We will continue to explore these rights next week in our school book week.

Article 17 – access to information from the media, every child has the right to reliable information from a variety of sources.

Article 29 (goals of education) –Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.

Article 31 (leisure, play and culture)-Every child has the right to relax, play and take part in a wide range of cultural and artistic activities.

In Literacy, the children carried out research into the Human Heart and began to write information reports to be shared with other classes. They used writing targets to make these interesting and structured. The class explored character descriptions using adverbs, adjectives, metaphor and personification and we will be developing our understanding of these things over the next few weeks.

In math we have been continued developing our knowledge of fractions, decimals and percentages. It is great to know that we can use our multiplication and division skills to solve problems and change fractions into decimals, decimals into percentages and percentages into fractions.

On Shrove Tuesday afternoon we enjoyed eating pancakes with jam, butter and honey.

On Ash Wednesday we recieved our ashes from Father Simon and prepared for the beginning of Lent and our journey to Easter. In the afternoon we painted our Nessie sculptures in camouglage colours to keep them hidden below water.

Thursday was World Book Day, we read our books, examined characters in books we were reading and brought home our wooden spoons to create our favourite book character of all time. We also got a World Book Day token to buy a book with.

Next week is our School Book Week and we will be carrying out a great variety of fun literacy activities.
