Hello P3 families! I hope you enjoyed our last post with photos from our recent class trip to Glasgow Science Centre. The learning highlights this week come from ‘Livingston’:
Izhaan and Joseph both loved playing Word Boost Corners (Joseph won!). I bought a new speaker for the class and they loved listening to Disney’s classic hits while dancing.
Navami said that litter picking in our local area was her learning highlight. This week we were introduced to our new topic, Sustainability. We started it off by taking care of God’s beautiful creation by picking up litter on a walk. We were proud to have saved some animals from injury or even death! We learned that litter can make its way to the rivers and then sea where it can be eaten by sea creatures or they can get trapped inside them and die! Each Monday, we are going to appoint a ‘Planet Protector’ who will be responsible for turning off the lights and smartboard when we leave the room and they will check the recycling paper bin and make sure no other rubbish is in there. They will also water our class plant. We are excited to make our own Tote bags this term and have already designed them! Thank you to those parents who have already sent their old pillowcase in for this exciting Sustainable task.
Alex and Ollie loved Pancake Tuesday! The children had the choice of blackcurrant or orange marmalade. They practised their spreading skills. We used the pancakes for learning about fractions. Some chose to transform their thirds into sixths by halving them while others halved fifths and turned them into tenths! We used the phrase ‘equivalent fractions’. The children then listened and followed instructions such as, “eat one fifth, eat three sixths” etc.
Tyler T said his learning highlight was our lessons on dividing. After we ate our pancakes, we followed this up with halving numbers (dividing them by 2). In P3, we divide 2 digit numbers by 2. The children used their knowledge of the 2 Times Tables to help them find answers. Next week we will move on the division with remainders.
Elize continued to enjoy Rounders in PE. Our warm up involved balancing with beanbags – walking in a straight line, changing direction and even hopping with them on our heads!
Oscar enjoyed our Narrative writing lessons. Narrative stories are those that have a problem that then gets resolved at the end. This week we started to write a whole class story called ‘The Lost Dog’. The children worked in pairs to write an ‘Orientation’ (introduction) where the main characters and setting are introduced. Ollie and Joseph’s submission was chosen! Together as a class, we then uplevelled their orientation. On Monday, we will continue with paragraph 2, the ‘Complication’ (what is the problem).
My highlight was when we went to church to receive ashes for Ash Wednesday. The children learned the meaning of the different words the priest may say when delivering the ashes. We also made a Lenten Promise. Ask your child what theirs is.
Congratulations to Tyler T, our Hot Chocolate award winner this week!
Unfortunately, the class ipad has been taken away for updates so no photos were able to be taken this week. Hopefully it won’t be long before we have it back.
I look forward to seeing you next week at Parent Consultations.
Have a lovely weekend!
Mrs Brown
