P5B Week Beginning 21st October 2024

Hello families of P5B!

I hope you all had a restful October Holiday.  It was so lovely to see the children again after our break.  A few of them have sprouted up!  Here are our highlights this week as recorded by the Red table (due to a few absences at the red table, each child shared 2 learning highlights this week):

Rowan loved to hear about our new topic called Enterprise!  He also enjoyed PE outdoors where we practised our ball shooting skills (the children were amazed to see Mrs Brown score!) and played some co-operative games, as well as something called The Line Game (the children taught me this favourite of theirs that they play with Mrs Lafftery).

Kasper enjoyed recounting The Battle of Sterling Bridge through the medium of a comic.  Once the colouring is finished, P5 will now have created their own newspaper and comic book about The Scottish Wars of Independence!  The children were tasked to show the clever strategies used by William Wallace and Andrew Moray that led to Scotland’s victory.  He also liked researching some autumn art ideas for our next art lesson.

Cohen loved listening to ‘Home’, a song he sang in the talent show in the past (a memorable performance with some great dance moves if memory serves me correct) and handball during PE on Friday.  The children are preparing for an upcoming handball festival.

Jayden has been enjoying our mindfulness breathing exercises that we started this week.  We do them each morning, after break and after lunch to help us regulate and get us reading for our learning ahead.  He also liked to hear about our new topic.

My highlight was our lovely Autumn walk.  Both P5 classes enjoyed collecting leaves and seeds and then later used Google Lens to identify them.  We discovered that the tress on the way down to Eliburn Park from our school, consist of Maple, Oak, Beech and Pine trees.  Over the weekend and next week for an optional homework task, the children are invited to collect some leaves from trees near their home.  We hope to find some from Birch, Horse Chestnut, Larch, Rowan, Spruce and Sycamore trees.

Congratulations to Ella, our hot chocolate award winner!

I hope you enjoy the weekend.  The first 2 pic collage photos below are from the week before the holidays.
