P1 Weekly Learning Highlights 6th September 2024

Hi everyone,  we have had another busy and fun filled week in P1.

In Literacy we have been learning our first sound m.  It is a long, stretchy, red coloured sound and we use our lips to make it.  We made m using chalks and whiteboards  and markers and we also practised forming it in rice.  We are able to recall lots of words that begin with m.  We used our cutting skills to cut out a monster and piece him together and today we designed and drew our own monsters.  Mrs Russell was very impressed with the detail in our drawings.

In Maths and Numeracy we have been looking at the numbers 4 and 5, what they look like as a quantity and as a number and we practised forming the numbers 0 to 5.  We have been exploring 3D shapes learning their names and trying to identify some in the environment.  We made some amazing structures with the shapes. We are continuing to enjoy counting forwards and backwards and we use a 100 square to help us look at the numbers as we count.  We are also enjoying using the Promethean Board to play maths games.

This week we have been learning about our senses and the sense of touch.  We had to feel different objects inside of balloons and try to work out what the object was and match it to the correct pictures.

We also learned different words to describe the feel of things and completed a hand activity.

In Religion we are continuing to learn our school prayers and we also discussed our talents and gifts.

In Spanish we played a game we had to listen to the colour in Spanish and jump on to a circle that colour.  We also used our listening skills to colour parts of a dog red, blue, green and yellow in Spanish.

Weekly Highlights:

Myra ‘I liked when Mr Pentland read us a story’

Tiara ‘I liked tidying up’

Cerys ‘I liked colouring the Teddy Bear’

Daniel and Guhan Kumar ‘We liked everything’

Alfie and William ‘We liked playing with then Marble Run’

Well done to this weeks Hot Chocolate winner Emilio.  We are very proud of you.
