Hello everyone and happy holidays!

We have had another busy week and we are now looking forward to a well-earned rest!

Throughout maths we have been working on equivalent fractions and our confidence with this has improved immensely! We started our week by taking our learning outside by using chalk or natural materials to show equivalent fractions. We challenged ourselves to find as many fractions that are equivalent to a half and we are proud to say that we found 31 different variations! On Tuesday we were using all of our knowledge of decimals and addition to calculate the perimeter of shapes and objects- we did a super job! We also enjoyed using the play dough to show some more equivalent fractions later on in the week. Another maths highlight was playing the sorting balls game. We had to sort the coloured balls (with various fractions written on) into their equivalent fraction hoop in as little time as possible. This was really fun and sparked lots of interesting collaborative thinking and questioning; excellent work P5A. Miss Ventisei would also like to say how proud she was for all of our hard work during maths this week, we were working on a slightly tricky concept but we all persevered and this paid off hugely!

We really enjoyed writing an information report about John Muir during literacy this week. Our favourite aspect of this was using the internet to research more about his life and then selecting a picture to add into our report. As we used Glow to type our information reports, these are available for parents and families to view at home. We will also print these off to include in our John Muir journal and make sure to display them around the school so others can learn about him also.

A class highlight for this week was art. We worked really hard to sketch and colour a John Muir inspired nature scene and then wrote out our favourite quote of John Muir’s around our artwork. We displayed these in the cloakroom and we have received lots of lovely compliments already!

On Thursday we ventured outdoors for a scavenger hunt around the school grounds! We used our orienteering skills to read our school map and followed the clues to find a secret code! We worked collaboratively in partners and Vijval’s group were the first to crack the code! Well done everybody!

Our Hot Chocolate winner this week is Julia. She displayed her fantastic listening skills all week and put so much effort into her work too- congratulations Julia!

Thank you for reading everyone, have a lovely week off and see you on Tuesday 21st February!
