Dear parents,

We have had another lovely and busy week.

Since our Enterprise is coming up soon, we have been hard at work getting prepared! As part of this, we have been practicing counting and giving change in maths. We decided to create our own coffee shop and had lots of fun pretending to be customers and shopkeepers whilst counting and giving out change. The children said that this was their highlight of the week!

We have also been busy getting crafty and working on our creations to sell and we are doing a super job with this! Everyone has continued to collaborate really well and this is definitely paying off- well done P5A!

Today was Remembrance Day so we have been thinking a lot about what this special day means and how this relates to our Children’s Rights and Global Goals. We also learnt a special prayer during R.E this week which helps us to remember those who have passed away. This is called the Eternal Rest prayer.

We have also been super busy in literacy! We have continued to work on writing discussions where 2 points of view are offered and this week our topic was ‘Should mobile phones be banned in school?”. We had lots of great arguments offered and worked really hard on structuring our writing correctly for this type of text. We will continue to focus on this type of writing for the coming weeks. We are also currently working on our reciprocal reading skill of summarising. This week we watched and listened to Ed Sheeran read a short story called I Talk Like A River and had to take down lots of key notes about the title and author, main ideas and main characters. We then organised our notes into 5 key parts. These were: a key topic sentence, the main characters, what the characters wanted, the conflict that occurred and how the conflict was resolved. We also made a little hand with the 5 key aspects of a summary on each finger to help us remember in the future.

Throughout music with Mrs Morrison, we have been getting ready for our Christmas Enterprise show by singing lots of Christmas songs! We don’t have a class favourite at the moment because we are enjoying every single one of them! We have also loved playing handball in P.E. with Mrs Lafferty and Dallas this week. We are developing well with each lesson and looking forward to progressing with the sport.

This week our Hot Chocolate winner was Farrah. She was incredibly hardworking and listened really well all week and we are so proud of her! Congratulations Farrah!

Our lead learners for this week were Ayden and Fahad who have both worked really hard this week; particularly with writing! Well done boys!
