Primary 1B Learning Highlights 13th May

We had a super week in P1B.  This week the Dragon left us a letter with a basket and red cloak.  He wanted us to read the fairytale  story Little Red Riding Hood.  We were all very excited.  We made a get well soon card for Granny.  Chose what food to put in a basket to send to Granny to make her feel better.  We spoke about healthy and unhealthy foods and sometimes having a little treat.  Granny was so delighted with all our hard work she asked the Dragon to send us ingredients to make ourselves a Jam Sandwich.  We were able to discuss how to make the sandwich step by step and then we made our own one.  It was delicious.  We then sequenced pictures showing how to make the sandwich.

In writing we focused on descriptive writing and looked at different characters from the story and described them using talking sentences.  Then we wrote a descriptive piece about the Big Bad Wolf.  We used lots of fantastic describing words and remembered to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop.  Our teachers are very proud of how well we are working.

This week in Numeracy and Maths we have been practising counting in 2s and 1os.  We listen to songs and join in singing.  It is really fun.  We have looked at o’clock and can identify the hands on the clock face and know where the numbers go.  We made our own clock using paper plates.  We also looked at fractions halves and quarters.  When we made our jam sandwich we cut it into halves and then quarters.

In Heath and Well Being this week we had a great discussion on things that are safe or unsafe to eat or drink.  Mrs Russell was very impressed how grown up we are and we know never to touch medicines or cleaning products and where they should be stored.  We sorted everyday items into safe or unsafe to handle.

This week we started to build a Castle in our classroom.  We used big boxes to get the shape of the castle and we painted it.  We will continue to work on this and decorate the inside.
