Dear readers,

We hope you are all doing very well.

As this has been a week with very upsetting news related to what has been happening around the world, we have decided to say special prayers for peace. All the children reminded me daily about these extra prayers and asked many questions about the whole situation. They shared that they have been listening to the news and seemed to have a relatively good knowledge of what has been going on.

On a much more positive note, here are the highlights from this week:

Literacy and English

New spelling words, lots of spelling practice and the usual weekly spelling assessment with great scores;

Reading of our new books for the week/fortnight using increasing expression and awareness of punctuation;

Planning and writing an information report about puppies, following the structure we had learned;

Learning more word boost words to help us both with our understanding of what we read/hear and with the use of new words in our writing.

Numeracy and Maths

We have continued working on the multiplication and division facts by 3 with lots of exercises and word problems and have also continued our work with money and giving change from a given amount, using increasingly higher amounts.

Learning Across the Curriculum

We learned all about Pancake day and even had the chance to have some tasty pancakes with chocolate! Yummy!

Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent, a very important time for Catholics and we learned about its meaning, duration and things we should do during it. Many of us have chosen to have the ashes on Ash Wednesday, after having watched a clip on where they came from.

We have finished our first water colour art work with the West Lothian’s crest and are now ready to put it up on the Topic display. The work looks amazing and the children have put a lot of effort into it.

Today, we finished the week with an Aseembly to promote SCIAF’s Wee Box, Big Change appeal and have asked children to bring, if at all possible, coins to help with the campaign.

This week we have also learned a lot about Fairtrade and the importance of buying products with its logo when shopping with our families/carers.

These are just some of the highlights of our busy week and we hope you have enjoyed reading about them!

Wishing you all a good weekend!😃

Mrs Valente and P3A
