Welcome St Anthony’s pupils and parents! A huge thank you to all of you who shared photos and videos of you looking all cosy in your fantastic reading dens! I heard some fabulous reading too! It makes me so excited to think of you all reading so much! Let’s keep it up all summer!
Be prepared to laugh today!
Today’s challenge is to read and listen to the one and only Michael Rosen’s poems and stories and tell me which one is your favourite. I have added a survey for you to complete, once you have read and listened to all the poems and stories added here today, or maybe you can tell us about a favourite one you have of your own?
Click here to find lots of Michael Rosen poems and stories.
Here is a link to see more of Micheal Rosen during authors live. You will get to find out a bit more about him and why he loves writing and performing poetry.
Now you can click the link below to complete the survey, telling me which of these is your favourite or tell of any other one of Rosen’s poems you love! You may need to ask your parent to help you.
HERE IS THE REALLY FUN PART! I would love to hear your Michael Rosen impersonation! All of the children I have taught before love to have a go in class and we find it really fun! Post yourself on twitter or team making the funniest Michael Rosen noises and expressions. You could also tell us what poem or story you love best! This will be such a fun way to end our last week of school and remind us what fun it is to be in school.
Can you swishy swashy, like Michael does in Bear Hunt, MMMmmm with delight like Michael does eating chocolate cake or perform the Rosen rap? Come on kids let’s see you! Post your video on the blog, on teams or on the school twitter!
I hope you love Michael Rosen as much as I do! Maybe this will inspire you to read more poetry! Check out this link to read more poetry during lock down. Enjoy!
Thank you for taking part in our Summer Reading challenge! The Scottish Book Trust will be looking at us sharing our reading with others, so keep posting on twitter all the great reading activities you have been doing and maybe we will get that silver award!
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and I can’t wait for you to see the exciting debut video of the real life Katie Morag – especially filmed for St Anthony’s school!
Keep reading St Anthony’s Summer Reading Challenge Champs!
Today is the third day of our Summer Reading Challenge. Please take a look at Mrs Llaza’s blog post. I have also posted the grid of fun tasks below.
Remember that you have a St Kent’s lesson at 2.30pm today.
If you have not yet applied for your school bus pass, I have included the web address as well as some other useful information in the information sheet below.
This is Day 2 of the Summer Reading Challenge. Please refer to Mrs Llaza’s blog for today’s tasks. You may also choose 2 tasks from the grid I posted yesterday. Remember also that you have a transition lesson with St Kent’s at 2.30pm.
WELCOME TO DAY 2 OF ST ANTHONY’S READING CHALLENGE! WE LOVED READING AND SEEING YOUR BOOK PRESCRIPTIONS! THANK YOU SO MUCH CHILDREN AND PARENTS FOR ENCOURAGING OTHERS TO READ! PLEASE KEEP THEM COMING!
Nothing beats snuggling with a book. Today we would like you to make a cosy reading den and get settled down with a book.
Here are some of our teachers snuggling down at home reading with their own children. Mrs Stanners is reading to Hamish and friends too!
MRS WILSON READING WITH FLORENCE
So sorry that the book was sideways. However, hearing Mrs Wilson read so enthusiastically, makes it not matter at all.:-)
NOW GET COSY WITH MRS DOGHUDGE AND EBONY
This is Joshua and Logan in their reading den. Mrs Llaza is their grantie and I am missing reading to them so much! Joshua thought he would let me see him reading to his little brother even though he is just in primary one! When I asked him how was he able to read so well, he told me he practises his reading every day for 20 minutes. Look how well his little brother is listening. Logan seems so ready to start school in August. They are doing so well because practise makes perfect readers!
JOSHUA READS TO HIS LITTLE BROTHER IN THEIR READING DEN
MRS STANNERS READS TO TONY, HECTOR, HAMISH AND ZEUS
HERE ARE SOME GREAT IDEAS FOR INSIDE AND OUTSIDE READING DENS! I BET YOU CAN BE EVEN MORE CREATIVE! REMEMBER TO POST YOUR PHOTOS OF YOUR DEN ON TWITTER!
PLEASE POST SOME VIDEOS OR PHOTOS OF YOU IN YOUR READING DEN ON TWITTER.
Here are some links to authors live. It is great to hear what inspires writers to write a book and it is also great to hear a bit about the kind of people they are too! Here I have something for all ages and there are a variety of genres too.
FOR OLDER READERS WHO LIKE TO GET SOME SOME GOTHIC TALES. SETTLE INTO YOUR READING DEN, SWITCH OFF THE LIGHTS AND SETTLE DOWN TO HEAR THE CLASSIC -‘THE RAVEN’ BY EDGAR ALLAN POE.
FOR READERS WHO LIKE NON -FICTION
I hope you have all enjoyed a fantastic day of reading in your den. Maybe you have loved hearing about authors and how they write their books? Or perhaps you got the chills from the work of a classic author like Edgar Allan Poe? Did you giggle and wriggle at some funny stories cosied down like Florence and Ebony? I hope you listened as intently as Logan and giggled at how well famous actors can read stories. Maybe you filled your brain with facts about sharks and dinosaurs?
THERE IS ONE THING ABOUT DEVELOPING A LOVE FOR READING….
ON WEDNESDAY I GUARANTEE YOU IT WILL BE A DAY FULL OF LAUGHS…. I WONDER WHAT WRITER MAKES US DO THAT? COME BACK TOMORROW AND SEE!
(P.S- I AM SORRY YOU DIDN’T GET TO SEE THE REAL LIFE KATIE MORAG TODAY…… SHE’S COMING SOON! )
Hope you are all safe and well and looking forward to the Summer break. As you know this would be our last week in nursery before breaking up for the Summer holidays. It is usually a busy week with trips to the seaside or a park with lots of things to do. Unfortunately this year we cannot have all our usual things so this year the ladies in the nursery have decided to have a Teddy Bear Picnic on Wednesday and post on the blog our photos or videos. Perhaps you too could have a Teddy Bear Picnic on Wednesday as well and post your picnic photos.
On Thursday we will post something for The Graduation so remember to look at the post on Thursday as well.
The ladies in the nursery are missing you all and wondered if anyone spotted any of the nursery butterflies over the weekend.
We know that home schooling has brought many challenges and stresses AND FUN to your homes. Here at St Anthony’s we would like to tell you what a great job you are doing and to guide you toward one of the very best things you can do to help your child. Encourage your child to to read for pleasure. We invite you to read with your child and encourage your child to READ as much as possible. It’s the magic potion of learning…. and it is usually quiet too! 🙂 Let us help you cast that spell, not only this week but for the whole of the summer holidays and beyond!
So what to read? Mrs Gardner, our head teacher will start off by telling you about a book she loved as a child and you will also hear from your teachers too!
We hope we will inspire you to GET READING!
MRS GARDNER
MRS CANNING
MISS SLOAN
MRS MCGILL
MRS STANNERS
MR PATERSON
MRS MOFFAT
Our support staff love to read too! Here is Mrs Rybak telling you about her favourite book.
Now its time to hear from Mrs Llaza’s best friend from primary school. This is Miss McCauley and she is a high school teacher. I think she was definitely the best friend anyone could have to encourage me to read lots on rainy days when we felt bored and were stuck indoors. She still passes all the books she has read onto me! What a brilliant reading friend to have! Primary 7’s just listen to how much fun high school teachers are!
Now let’s here from some writing stars. Primary 1-3 I’m sure you will love to hear a story from Shirley Hughes!
Everyone’s favourite! Roald Dahl!
David Walliams is always making us laugh.
NOW ITS YOUR TURN! BE A…
I would love you to become a book doctor and write a prescription for a good book. You should give this prescription to someone in your family or to a friend you have in St Anthony’s school. We would love you to post a photo or a video of you writing your book prescription on the blog or on the school twitter page (REMEMBER NEVER SAY OR WRITE YOUR NAME ALONGSIDE A PHOTO OR VIDEO OF YOURSELF ON THE SCHOOL TWITTER PAGE)
WE CAN’T WAIT TO RECEIVE OUR BOOK PRESCRIPTIONS!
Today we would also like to raise awareness of children who find reading an even bigger challenge. Children identified as having dyslexia can sometimes lose the joy of reading as it can be very tiring and frustrating for them, but worst of all it can make them lose their confidence as a learner. Fortunately, we are learning more and more about dyslexia and are finding ways to make reading and learning a pleasure for dyslexic learners too! Parents and children please take the time to listen to the video clips in the links to understand dyslexia and just how fantastically wonderful and smart dyslexic children and adults are!
To gain a better understanding of what dyslexia is. Click on the link below.
WE HOPE YOU HAVE ENJOYED DAY ONE OF THE SUMMER READING CHALLENGE. We look forward to you joining us tomorrow to hear some authors live interviews, hearing some of your teachers read live, meeting a real life Katie Morag and more!
I can’t believe that this is the last week of primary 1 before the summer holidays!
I hope you are all well and had a fantastic weekend. I loved seeing your photos on Twitter from your Teddy Bears Picnic on Friday!
This week there will be no PowerPoints, however, I will upload a learning grid for you with a range of activities to choose from if you wish to give them a go. In the learning grid we will be focusing on revision of phonemes and common words as well as having fun.
