P3/4 Friday 22nd November

Tickled Pink

  • We had an author visit from Sophy Henn. She was fantastic and showed us how to draw some of her characters from her book, ‘Happy Hills’.
  • For outdoor learning we had to find unusual spaces to read a book for Scottish Book Week. We found some very strange places.
  • On a Thursday we have been getting a visit from Mrs de Luen to teach us about music. We have learned to keep the beat and rhythm at the same time.
  • The p3s enjoyed getting a book bag from the Book Bug people.

Green for Growth

  • In numeracy we have been learning division, it has been tricky but we have been using our knowledge of the times tables to help us.

Lead learners this week were Leon and Ellie.

Primary 6/7 – Friday 15th November

Primary 6/7 have had a fantastic week, with lots of exciting learning activities in class. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • We loved our trip to Mill Farm because it was a fun way to investigate the history of shale oil mining in West Lothian
  • We enjoyed our PE lessons this week as it was fun to start getting into games in our tag rugby sessions
  • We enjoyed our Maths lesson with Mr McConville from the High School, as it is a different way of learning
  • We really enjoyed presenting our research and learning about Seafield Law to the Seafield senior citizen group because they enjoyed our presentations and were very positive about them
  • We enjoyed our class assembly preparation sessions as we are starting to pull together all of the detail that we need and we were able to do it quickly

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning):

  • Some of us felt a bit nervous about presenting our work on Seafield Law to the senior citizen group but we managed to handle the pressure
  • We found our fractions work in Maths quite tricky and a little confusing so we will need to keep working hard on this next week

Our lead learners for this week were Annie, Niamh, Meg and Preston. They set the following class targets for the week; respect other people’s opinions, be responsible with equipment in class and do good work. Our lead learners witnessed lots of our class meeting these targets, which was fantastic to see.

Our school value award winners for this week are Kyle and Calla.

Well done for a brilliant week, P6/7. Have a great weekend.

P1 Friday 15th November

Tickled Pink:

  • We drew poppies on Remembrance Day and took part in the 2 minute silence. The children were really interested to learn about why people wear poppies and were very respectful.

  • We had our first nativity practice in the hall this week and the children were so excited to find out where they would be sitting and practising singing to the instrumental music.
  • We have been focusing on days of the week and singing them in order. The children are becoming more confident each morning when we discuss what day it is.
  • We started our new topic, People Who Help Us. This week we had some Police Officers visit the classroom and it was so exciting because we got to try on lots of police hats and uniform. We also have our own Police Station role play area in the classroom and the children have loved exploring it!

Green for Growth:

  • Some children found reading comprehension a bit tricky this week, they need to make sure they listen to the story as it tells us the answers.

Our Lead Learners next week are Junior and Lucy.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Wallace!

  • In science we learned what the 3 Rs are: reduce, reuse and recycle.
  • Our rich task this week was to use times tables to make arrays and arrange them into shapes.

Green for Growth

  • We are still learning how to do recount writing and to remember to use time connectives at the start of each paragraph.
  • In numeracy we are practising the times tables and multiplying up to 3 digit numbers.

Lead learners next week are Oliver and Finn.

Friday 8th November P5/6

Tickled Pink

  • We wrote a newspaper article about the school sports tournaments we have attended for our recount writing this week. We had to make sure we were writing in third person which we found a little tricky but we really enjoyed writing in a different style.
  • We have started planning our enterprise project this week. In groups, we have created a poster detailing what our business will be and what materials we would need. Next week, we will present these to the whole class and decide what project to go forward with.
  • We have been exploring the Zones of Regulation this week, learning more about the different coloured zones, what they mean, how we can tell what zone we are in and how we can regulate our emotions.

Green for growth

  • We are still working on angles in maths. This week, some of us were working with protractors to measure and draw angles and some of us were focused on directional language. We had to be resilient to keep practising how to use the protractor.
  • We are continuing to work on using digital tools to help with our learning. We need to keep developing our laptop skills to help us.

Lead learners this week are Ryan and Connor.

Primary 6/7 Friday 1st November 2024

Tickled Pink

  • Maths with Mr McConville and Mrs Orpon was fun because it was a different way of learning and because it was  new teachers. We had to create 30 different answers using only 4 digits.(see pictures below)
  • Creating our 500 words stories was interesting because we got to choose what to write about. We used immersive read to read our stories back to us and this helped us to edit them.
  • During Outdoor learning  we did a tour around Seafield to show Miss White and Annie the village. We learned about when different streets were built and compared the older and newer houses.

Green for Growth

  • In PE, we need to work on our volume as when we are very enthusiastic our voices become too loud.
  • In Outdoor learning we will keep reminding ourselves how to stay safe when near roads and parked cars.

Lead Learner Update

Our lead learners this week were Alfie and Amelia and they chose to work on being respectful to the adults, take care of equipment outside and listen to the person that is talking. They saw many pupils in the class achieving the targets they had chosen.

The blog post this week was created by Alieu.

P1 Friday 1st November 2024

We have had a great week in Primary 1!

Tickled Pink:

  • Children enjoyed our Halloween addition yesterday and guessing how many eye balls were in the jar. We listened for clues and scored out answers that were not correct. We then had to count all of the eyeballs – there was 58!
  • We had fun painting autumn trees – using our hand and arm to be the trunk and branches and then stamping corks in paint to be the leaves.
  • We have started learning the songs for our Nativity – the children are remembering them and singing them beautifully!
  • We had fun doing a Halloween scavenger hunt in the playground for outdoor learning.

Green for Growth:

  • Some children found the cutting task a bit tricky this week and so we will continue to practise our scissor skills.

Our Lead Learners next week are Elodie and Jaxon.

We had fun dressing up today for our Scare Hunger Event – the children looked spooktacular!!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Wallace

P5 Handball Festival

Our P5 learners had a fantastic time at the Deans Cluster Handball festival.  They took part in 3 games against different cluster schools and managed to win each of their games.  Mr Hamilton was pleased to see that our Seafield pupils were showing good awareness of the rules of the game and showed sporting behaviour towards their opponents.  Well done Primary 5!

Primary 6/7 – Friday 25th October 2024

Primary 6/7 have had a wonderful first week back after the October break, with lots of exciting learning activities in class. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • We enjoyed our PE lessons this week as it was fun to start working on our skills for tag rugby
  • We enjoyed our Maths lessons on rounding this week as we are feeling more confident with the strategies needed for rounding and estimating now
  • We really enjoyed working on our climate change projects as we added more detail and focused on making sure that we were using our own words to create our presentations
  • We enjoyed our outdoor learning project about Seafield Law, both being outdoors at the bing and working on our projects for the DISCO group
  • We enjoyed our climate change art work as we are now getting close to completing these amazing works of art
  • We really enjoyed our Maths lesson with Mr McConville from Deans High School because it was interesting to use the vertical whiteboards to solve the Maths problems in our groups

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning):

  • Some of us felt that our French assessment was a bit tricky as we couldn’t remember all of the language and vocabulary that we had learnt previously and also because we have recently been learning Spanish in class
  • We found it tricky to find all of the numbers needed for Mr McConville’s Maths lesson
  • Some of us feel that outdoor learning didn’t work as planned because we ran out of time to get to all of the areas that we needed to visit

Our lead learners for this week were Oscar, Archie, Shiva and Kaiden. They set the following class targets for the week; underline your date and title when working in your jotter, use equipment appropriately and be resilient in your school work. Our lead learners witnessed lots of our class meeting these targets, which was fantastic to see.

Our school value award winners for this week are Alfie and Amelia.

Well done for a brilliant week, P6/7.
