Seafield Snippets – Friday 5th September

We’ve had a really quick week here at Seafield PS, probably because it has been so busy!  We had the first 2 family welcome breakfasts this week which were really well attended and gave parents/carers a chance to see their child’s classrooms.  Our P7 took part in a cross country running event at Dechmont Law yesterday and put in a strong performance, representing our school very well.  This morning, we had our first “Hub Groups” of the year.  P4 – P7 signed up for a hub group and are either in the Rights Respectors, Reader Leaders, Global Gang or Health and Wellbeing Heroes.  Each hub started to work on their action plan for the year and have some super ideas for how to take forward improvements in our school.  P1 – P3 took part in a purposeful play session themed around “The Gruffalo.”  They worked in mixed groups and took part in a range of play based activities, where they had the opportunity to develop some of the key metaskills such as collaborating, communicating and creativity.  Everyone had a good time and worked well in their groups.

Our weather is starting to change as you will have noticed and we would ask that all children wear or bring a jacket to school going forward.  It may be sunny when children leave the house in the morning but on a few occasions this week, the rain has arrived by the time the children go out to play and we don’t have enough spare jackets to provide everyone with one.  Thank you for your co-operation with this.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Parent Council Coffee Morning today, the event raised £116 which will be added to the PC funds which are used to support in school throughout the year.

Diary Dates for the year were shared in an email yesterday, please save this for future reference.  Dates for term 1 are also shared on our school website and will be updated termly.  Seafield Primary School – Seafield Primary

Next week

Monday – P2/3/4 Multisports after school club

Tuesday – P3/4 Family Breakfast; P1 Seesaw session for parents of children with surname from A – F

Wednesday – P1 Family Breakfast

Thursday – P6/7 Family Breakfast; P5/6/7 football after school club

Friday – Destination Judo tasters – we haven’t received confirmation from our Active Schools Co-ordinator that this is going ahead however if all children can wear PE kit just in case, this would be helpful

Have a super weekend!  Lynne Egan.

P1 Friday 5th September

P1 have had a super week.  We have learned some more sounds (c, k, e, m and r) and really like singing the Jolly Phonics songs.  A reminder that parents/carers can search for these to sing them with us at home!  We were learning about how to care for babies and pets in health and wellbeing with Mrs Robertson who takes us twice each week when Miss Robb has her time out of class.  In music with Mrs Egan today, we learned more about finding the beat and did some moving in time with music which we enjoyed.  We pretended to be animals and moved around the classroom in time with the music which was good fun!

P2/3 Friday 5th September

We’ve had another super week in P2/3.  It was great to see so many of our family members come and join us for our Family Breakfast and we really enjoyed working with our adults in the classroom and showing them around.

Tickled Pink (things that we think went well)

  • We all worked very hard when we were writing about Our Classroom and we shared our writing with the P3/4 class.
  • We’ve already started learning about Seafield in the Past but the P6 pupils helped us write down more questions we could ask the DISCO group when they come to visit our class.
  • Our outdoor learning had a literacy focus this week and we were finding objects which started with different letters of the alphabet and finding objects that rhyme.
  • We were focussing on developing our collaborative skills during play.

Green for Growth (things we need to do to improve our learning)

  • We found joining some letters tricky during our Handwriting task and this is something we will need to practise more.
  • We worked in random groups of 3 to complete a numeracy challenge (rich task) and although we were good at collaborating, we found it tricky to share our thinking,  We will try the same task again with different numbers and see if we can get better at this.

Lead Learner Update

Our Lead Learners this week were Ava and Rose.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Primary 6/7 – Friday 5th September

Primary 6/7 have had a brilliant week with lots of interesting and engaging learning activities in class. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning this week:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • We really enjoyed continuing our focus on golf in PE and focusing more on putting as well as developing our ability to control our golf shots more
  • We enjoyed our Writing lesson this week as we started our focus on describing settings using lots of exciting descriptive language. We felt that the class concentrated very well on the task
  • We enjoyed finishing off our subtraction review in Maths as we were feeling more confident with the process as we continued to practise the formal written method
  • Our Primary 7s enjoyed the cluster cross country event that they took past in as it was great to take part in a wider sports event and meet children from other schools
  • We really enjoyed our online Art lesson on Friday morning led by the National Galleries of Scotland. We were learning about Andy Goldsworthy and creating our own artworks using various items in the classroom. There was some amazing creativity.

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Using compasses in Maths with Mrs Flynn was a little tricky
  • Some of us found our Mental Maths session a bit challenging this week as, for some of us, it was the first time we tried these type of questions and learned about the importance of explaining our strategies

Our lead learners were Ben, Niamh, Faith and Che.  They decided on the following three targets for the class; to take care of our buddies, to only speak when asked to and to be respectful to adults in school. They observed lots of learners in the class meeting those targets, which is great news.

Our school value award winners for this week are Ruaridh and Jake. Congratulations!

Well done for a fantastic week, P6/7. Have a lovely weekend.

Primary 3/4 – Friday 5th September

Another fab week for Primary 3/4. We started our music block this week with Mrs de Luen and we loved it!

Tickled Pink (Things that we feel went well)

  • We are getting quicker and better at our morning word jumble!
  • We really enjoyed Hub groups this week, especially working with pupils across the school.
  • We also enjoyed designing our Roman Shields. We planned for how we could make them strong and colourful!
  • We liked aiming to be on the work of the week wall. We are aiming to bump up our work.
  • Lastly we have continued to enjoy working on our number and multiplication knowledge, even if sometimes it is tricky!

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • As we all want to share our ideas, sometimes we forget to put our hands up. This is something that we want to work on.
  • Some of us found our multiplication quite tricky but we will continue to keep trying!
  • As some of us were with older pupils in our hub groups, some of the words were hard to understand. However the other pupils helped us!

Our value certificate winners for this week are Fraser for being resilient and Lucas Y for being respectful. Well done!

Have a lovely weekend Primary 3/4, see you on Monday!

Primary 6/7 – Friday 29th August

Primary 6/7 have had a fantastic week in school, with lots of great learning activities in class. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • We enjoyed continuing with our writing task from last week because we were given the freedom to choose what we wanted whilst imagining our perfect day
  • Lots of us were confident with our subtraction review work this week
  • We enjoyed continuing to work on our personal crests in Art especially because we could link this to our “My Perfect Day” piece of writing and make connections between the important things in our lives that we have chosen to illustrate and write about
  • We enjoyed our French lesson with Mrs Flynn and the games of Bingo which helped us to practise the vocabulary that we are learning
  • We all enjoyed reading with our Primary 1 buddies on Friday morning and encouraging their listening skills whilst showing them how to act responsibly in school

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning):

  • Some of us found our Maths work with shapes quite tricky, especially as we reviewed and learned some tricky vocabulary about shapes
  • Some of us also felt that our first attempt to learn how to putt in our golf lesson earlier this week was a bit difficult as it is more tricky to control the direction and strength of the shot

Our school value award winners for this week are Niamh and Ben and they will set our class targets next week in collaboration with our lead learners from last week, Faith and Che.

Well done for an excellent week, Primary 6/7. Have a lovely weekend.

Primary 2 and 3

We have had a very busy week this week. Our Literacy Circuit groups have started and we have enjoyed working with different teachers. We enjoyed writing letters to the Disco group and wait to get a reply from them. We have been learning about Seafield and investigating old photographs. It has been really interesting and we can see that Seafield has changed lots over the years. We are curious to find out more. We were really enjoying playing Team games at PE. We also had a practice Fire Drill, it was really loud and went off a second time by accident!

It was a little bit tricky writing the letters for the Disco group because we had to set out the letter properly and it was difficult writing all of the questions we had. We did have some tricky maths this week but we are just getting our brains back into work after the holidays!

Seafield Snippets – Friday 29th August 2025

Welcome to our weekly update on all things Seafield PS!  It has been a busy week with lots of learning taking place in school.  Our P1 have continued to learn their next set of sounds using the Jolly Phonics programme.  P2 and P3 have started working in their groups at Literacy Circuit and P4 were really busy with literacy in the classroom.  P5/6 were really focused on bracelet making in class this morning and P6/7 have continued to enjoy learning a bit about playing golf at PE.

Our Parent Council held their first meeting on Monday and are hoping to hold a range of events for children and families this year.  They will share details in due course!

Our P6 and P7 pupils have been invited to register their interest in becoming one of our Mini Champs this year.  We are looking for pupil leads for Rights Respecting Schools, Health and Wellbeing, Literacy and Numeracy.  The mini champs will work alongside staff leads to drive forward work in these areas and also attend online meetings with pupils in other schools who hold the same roles.  There has been a good level of interest and the plan is to hold “interviews” on Monday of next week where I will ask each child a couple of questions about why they think they would be a good mini champ before appointing pupils to the mini champ roles.  I am really looking forward to hearing what the children have to say when I meet with them next week!

A reminder to please ensure that you have completed the annual EE2 form for local walks and excursions.  This covers outdoor learning activities and staff in the upper area in particular are keen to be able to get out into the village for this.  If you have not completed the EE2 form, your child will have to remain in school while others head out so please do this by Tuesday 2nd September.  If you have any problems with this, contact the school office.   We would also ask that parents/carers of pupils from P5 – P7 complete our Responsible Use of Digital technology e-form that was issued to you on Monday of this week.  If these could be completed by Friday 5th September, this would be appreciated.

Next Week

Monday – Mini Champ interviews; P2/3/4 Multi sports club

Wednesday – P2/3 Family Welcome breakfast 9.10am

Thursday – P5/6 Family Welcome breakfast 9.10am; P7 to Cross Country event; P5 – P7 Football club

I hope that everyone has a nice weekend and that the forecasted rain tomorrow isn’t as bad as it looks!

Kind regards, Lynne Egan.

Primary 3/4 – 29th August

Primary 3/4 have had a super week in class. We are more familiar with our routines and have been working extra hard on demonstrating our school values.

Tickled Pink (things that we think went well)

  • We are continuing to work on our morning literacy challenge, this is one of our favourite activities!
  • This week for topic we took part in a drama activity. Miss Marple appeared in our classroom and we had to teach her all about the Romans! We thought of a plays while working in groups and performed them to our peers.
  • We’ve enjoyed doing IDL this week, especially after lunchtime to get us ready for more learning.
  • We are also been enjoying our Health and Fitness block in PE. Sometimes it is tiring but we continue to push on and be resilient!

Green for Growth (things we need to do to improve our learning)

  • We are aiming to continue to uplevel our work, especially in our writing by using a variety of vocabulary, punctuation and openers.
  • We also need to remember that anything that can distract us in class should be staying in our bags.

Our value certificate winners for this week are Blake for being responsible and Robyn for being ambitious! We also now have four honeycombs for the children’s fantastic effort in the playground.

A fabulous week Primary 3/4, have a great weekend.
