Primary 3/4 – Friday 22nd August

Primary 3/4 have had a really fun week in school. We started a new topic and will be looking at The Romans! We are getting back into our routine and have settled as a class really well.

Tickled Pink (things that we think went well)

  • We loved completing a class maths challenge together on our smartboard.
  • We loved learning about Roman Mosaics in Art. We created our own Roman soldiers using this technique!
  • We really enjoyed starting our science block, we are learning about living and non-living things.
  • We have also enjoyed using concrete materials to show our times tables knowledge in Numeracy.

Green for Growth (things we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Every morning we start with a word jumble challenge as a short literacy task. We enjoy this but sometimes it can be a little bit tricky. We are going to continue to work on this and be resilient in our learning!

Our school value award winners for this week are Struan and Harley.

Well done for a fantastic week Primary 3/4!

Primary 6/7 – Friday 15th August

It has been wonderful to welcome back our Primary 6/7 class to school and we are also delighted to welcome our new Primary 7 pupil, Matilda to Seafield Primary School.

We thoroughly enjoyed our first few days back as we settled back in and started our class work for this very important year ahead. We had important detailed discussions about expectations and hopes for the forthcoming Primary 7 and Primary 6 year ahead.

We started our new class novel, Divided City and made some predictions about what might happen in the novel as well as starting to work on our understanding of the characters and plot in the first few chapters. There are some very important themes that we will identify and discuss as we read this novel together which are ultimately based around inclusion and avoiding bias, in particular in relation to sectarianism and race.

We also enjoyed a challenging Maths rich problem solving task based on multiplication facts which helped us to get ourselves back into our numerical thinking and refresh our number fact knowledge.

We are looking forward to another fun week next week and a lot of new learning tasks.

P5/6

Primary 5/6 have had an excellent first short week of the new year. They have settled in well and already begun some of the new routines that will continue throughout.

This week they have already completed handwriting, addition and subtraction practice as well as illusions in art and starting to think about our new class charter.

We welcome our new P6 classmate, Effie who is a wonderful addition to our class. We hope she enjoys her time at Seafield and that we all make her feel welcome and included.

Seafield Snippets – 15th August 2025

Welcome back everyone!  We’ve had a great first week back in school and enjoyed our first whole school assembly this morning where we talked about the importance of our school values and in particular, our value of “Be Kind”  I plan to send a weekly school update each Friday as I think parents/carers found this useful last year but a reminder that each class also shares a weekly update to this blog where you can read more about the different activities and learning that has been taking place in class each week.  This was paused during the cyber attack that affected West Lothian schools before the summer but we are pleased to be able to restart this.  My update this week will be longer than usual as there is a lot of different information to share with you at the beginning of the school year!

School Uniform
It has been great to see the children return to school looking smart in their uniforms. We encourage you to continue with this positive start throughout the year. A reminder of our uniform code:
School uniform consists of:
 Navy or red jumper (with or without school badge)
 Red or white polo shirt or white school shirt and tie
 Black or grey skirt/trousers
On PE days, children can come to school wearing active uniform. This is not a dress down day, children should wear:
 navy or red jumper (without or without school badge);
 a plain white t-shirt or polo shirt and plain black, navy or grey joggers or leggings.
 Children should not wear branded tracksuits or hoodies on P.E. days and we thank you for your support in ensuring that your child sticks to our active uniform code.
Footwear – children should wear full shoes, boots or trainers to school. If your child wears wellingtons over the winter or because it is an outdoor learning day for them, please send a pair of shoes for them to wear inside. These can be school shoes, trainers or traditional gym rubbers. For safety reasons, we ask that children do not wear crocs or slippers.

P.E. Days
Our PE days for this term are:
P1 PE on Monday and Thursday
P2/3 PE on Monday and Thursday
P3/4 PE on Tuesday and Thursday                                                               P5/6 PE on Tuesday and Wednesday
P6/7 PE on Tuesday and Friday

Outdoor Learning
We are pleased to continue to have the opportunity for classes to take their learning outdoors this term and we will be continuing this over the coming months. We will take weather conditions
into account however unless there is a safety risk, classes will be outdoors at points in the week. Our younger classes will use the playground for their outdoor learning however our older pupils will make use of spaces within our local environment.  To support this, please find below information about clothing which is beneficial for children on these days which they should bring to change into.
 Clothing which is ok to get dirty and muddy
 Boots or wellies which can get dirty and muddy (we do have a stock of wellies in school for any children who don’t have these)
 Appropriate coats/jackets for the weather conditions, again these are likely to get muddy
 When we get to the colder weather, children may need hats, scarfs and gloves
 A change of clothes (including socks) in case anyone gets especially wet!

Regular weekly outdoor learning days
P1/2 Tuesday                                                 P2/3 Thursday                                P3/4 Monday                                     P5/6 Monday                             P6/7 Thursday

Reporting your child’s absence
We would ask all parents/carers to contact our school office on (01506) 652916 or to text our Groupcall number (07860 049745) to report if your child is going to be absent from school or nursery. West Lothian Council policy advises that parents should contact the school to inform of an absence by 9am for school and AM or Full Day nursery pupils and by 1pm for PM children. If no contact has been made, a groupcall message will be sent asking parents to get in touch with the school. If we are unable to contact you, Head Teachers are required to make the decision about whether to contact the council’s Safe Arrivals team to seek support in contacting families to ensure that children are safe. The Safe Arrivals team have the authority to make home visits and, in some cases, involve the police. These measures are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children and it is of great importance that parents contact the school if your child is not attending. Please either state that your child will be off for a specified number of days, or contact the school on each day of absence. We appreciate your co-operation.

West Lothian Council have an “Attendance and Engagement at School” policy which all schools follow. If your child’s attendance falls below 90% you will be contacted to advise you of this. If there is no improvement or where your child’s attendance drops further, you will be invited to a meeting to discuss any supports that could help improve attendance. In most cases, schools see improvements following these steps however if attendance continues to be a concern, West Lothian Council’s Inclusion and Support service will become involved. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact school to discuss.

Contact with school
If you need to speak with a member of staff, your first point of contact will nearly always be your child’s class teacher or ELC keyworker, as they are the people who are regularly with the children and are most likely to be able to answer your query. If you wish to speak to a member of our School Leadership Team, please contact us via the school office.
Our school office hours are:
Monday – Thursday 08.30am – 3.30pm
Friday 08.30am – 12.30pm

Safe and Considerate Parking
We ask that all parents and carers consider the safety of children and residents when parking at the school for drop off or collection. Please do not park on corners, zigzag lines, areas marked with “Keep Clear” or blocking the driveways of any of our neighbours. We thank you for your co-operation.

Positive Relationships at Seafield PS
We continue to place high emphasis on the importance of relationships and wellbeing here at Seafield PS. We have a Positive Relationships blueprint which sets out how we aim to foster an ethos where all members of our school community feel valued. This will be reviewed during session 25/26 and we will be looking for your involvement in this task.

At times, we may have to work with our young people and support them when they haven’t made a positive choice and we do have systems and processes in place to do this. Also at times, there may need to be a consequence involved and these are proportionate and used to further discuss how things can be done differently the next time. We encourage children to live our school values in their daily interactions with others and to work as part of a community where they are encouraged to be the best that they can be!

After School Clubs
Mr Hamilton takes responsibility for setting up our after school clubs.  He is currently working with the visiting coaches to set up a multisports club for P3 and P4 and a football club which is offered for P5 – P7.  Further information will be sent to those classes in due course. We will look to see if there are any other activities that can be offered and keep you updated.

Parent Council
The first meeting of this year will take place on Monday 25th August here in the school at 6pm.  All parents/carers are welcome.

I hope that everyone has a lovely weekend, Lynne Egan.

P2/3 Friday 15th August Primary 2/3

We have had a great first week in P2/3. We have been getting to know our classmates, our classroom and according to some of the children today – The best teachers in the world!

Tickled Pink

  • We read the book Our Class is a Family and used this to start planning our Class Charter. We did some lovely drawings for our wall display.
  • We created a class book using a black dot and our imagination…… the dot became a balloon, a sunflower, a bug in the garden, a nut for a squirrel, a planet in space. a pair of glasses, a creature in the ocean – we showed our teachers that we have a great imagination!
  • We made lovely bookmarks.
  • We had a whole school assembly – it was nice to sit in the P2/3 area.
  • Seeing our friends and playing outside.
  • Playing parachute games.

Green for Growth

  • We used number fans for some mental maths – it was tricky for some of us using them for the first time!
  • It was a bit tricky using our new word books to start with but it did help us with our spelling – especially when we were writing acrostic poems about ourselves.

We are looking forward to next week when we have a full week of school.

Primary 3/4 – Friday 15th August

Primary 3/4 have had a fantastic first week back! We have been getting back into a great routine and have been working really hard on remembering our school values. We have enjoyed having a new teacher, meeting new classmates and being introduced to new games. One of our favourite activities this week was completing our Sudoku puzzles, we found this challenging but we did not give up! We also enjoyed seeing Mrs Bain again after such a long time! We are looking forward to the weekend but are excited to be back at school on Monday.

Well done for a fab first week Primary 3/4. Have a great weekend and we will see you on Monday for more learning!

Seafield Snippets – Friday 27th June

I can’t quite believe that we have come to the end of another year here at Super Seafield!  We’ve had a fantastic week where we’ve celebrated our P7 and ELC leavers at special assemblies.  There have been lots of fun activities and games going on across the school.  A highlight was our school “Break the Rules Afternoon” where our children loved rebelling against the rules set and then enjoyed an ice cream with their friends.  Our ELC families came in for a “Stay and Play” session which was enjoyed by all who attended.  This event came on the back of feedback from our parents/carers who asked to come along to take part in structured activities and feedback from those who attended this week was really positive – thank you to those who took time to complete the evaluation.

Staffing – As you will know, our staffing for next year is now set.

P1                           Miss Robb (covering for Mrs Wallace’s maternity leave

P2/3                       Mrs Denholm and Mrs Baird

P3/4                       Miss White (Mrs Bain on a Tuesday)

P5/6                       Miss Halliday

P6/7                       Mr Hamilton (Mrs Flynn on a Thursday)

Mrs Robertson will continue to cover class teacher non contact time, delivering a range of curricular areas.  Mrs Bain is returning to us on a part time basis and will support learning groups on a Monday and work with P3/4 on a Tuesday.  Miss Cooper and Mrs Mills are sadly leaving us today.  We thank them for their effort and commitment to the children they have taught and wish them well for what comes next.

Our nursery team will be changing in August too.  Ms Graham leaves us during the summer period.  We thank her for her hard work during her time with us.  We will be welcoming back Mrs Todd, pupil support worker in the nursery, who has been on secondment as a practitioner in another setting for the last couple of years, who has decided to return to her substantive post here at Seafield.  She will be introduced to parents/carers and meet the children when she starts with us in August.  Our Area Support Manager Mrs Brown is also moving on to support different nursery settings and we welcome Ms Elizabeth Notman who will work with us on one day per week, supporting the school senior leadership team and the nursery staff team directly.

ELC – our nursery (ELC) remains open over the summer period.  If your child will not be attending for any of their sessions, please let the staff team know.  They will not have access to the groupcall system or the school email box so please ensure that absences are reported by telephone.  The staff and children will be taking advantage of having the building to themselves so will make extra use of the gym hall and the outside field if the weather allows!  A reminder to those children who are joining P1 that their last nursery sessions will be during week beginning 4th August, they are not able to attend nursery on Monday 11th or Tuesday 12th August.

Summer Programme  – there are a range of summer programmes and activities taking place across West Lothian over the summer, many of which have already been shared with you.  You will find lots of information on West Lothian Council’s website or social media.  There are some links shared below however there are other opportunities being shared by a range of organisations, again you can find details across social media platforms.

Get into Summer 2025 – West Lothian Council

Summer Holiday Programme – Xcite West Lothian

Xcite Outdoors Holiday Programme

Tesco Stronger Starts – those of you who shop in Tesco may be familiar with their “Stronger Starts” scheme where local organisations can be considered for funding to support projects which customers can vote on with blue tokens.   I am pleased to see that an application made by our nursery team to seek funding for cooking equipment was successful and that from next week, you can vote for us in local Tesco stores.  Please pass this on to your friends and families and hopefully we will be the winners of the vote!

Seafield Gala Day – a reminder that any child who wishes to walk with the school/nursery must be accompanied by an adult.  Please meet in the playground for 11.45 for fancy dress judging before the procession.  I hope that everyone has a fantastic day and that the sun shines for you all during civic week and on the day!

The staff team and I would like to thank those who kindly gave gifts this week.  Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.  We hope that all of our children and families have a fantastic summer break and look forward to seeing everyone back and refreshed after the holiday.  A reminder that there are 2 staff inset days at the beginning of term and pupils will return on Wednesday 11th August.

Kind regards, Lynne Egan.

Seafield Snippets – Friday 20th June

I hope this finds everyone well.  How warm is it today?!  We have all been finding it warm in school so classes have been mixing up spending time inside with heading out to the field.  P7 continue to practise for their Leavers assembly which takes place next week and are looking forward to sharing it with their families.

End of year reports have been sent home this week.  ELC children who haven’t received theirs should ask staff for this next week.  School reports should be in school bags today.

We have a lot going on next week and are looking forward to the buzz that we will be around the school as the children get excited for the summer break.  We hope to see high levels of attendance next week so that children can enjoy all of the fun activities that are taking place.

Monday – Break the Rules afternoon for school pupils (see poster attached)  Please note that children can come to school in their “normal” clothes for the whole day, we don’t expect them to change at lunchtime.  If your child is bringing a toy or game, we would advise that it isn’t their favourite thing in case it gets broken and also for you to put your child’s name on items where possible. No electronics please. This event is a treat for the children to celebrate our school achieving both the Digital Schools Award and Silver Reading Schools accreditation this year.  Thank you to the staff who led these activities and to children and families for their input.

5pm – P7 Deer Park trip.  School staff will be at Deer Park to meet pupils at 5pm.  Children should be collected between 6.20 and 6.30pm.

Wednesday – P7 Leavers Assembly 2pm start.

Thursday – P6/7 trip to Jupiter Artland.  Nursery leavers celebration takes place at 2.30pm today.

Friday – Last day of school term.  Children can have a non-uniform day.  P7 pupils can bring in an item of school clothing to be signed by friends if they wish.

Please note that a number of our devices require to be uplifted by West Lothian Council IT Services at the beginning of next week and staff won’t have access to usual platforms.  Please communicate any messages via our school office, either by telephone on 01506 652916 or by email to wlseafield-ps@westlothian.org.uk. If your message  requires  a response,  we  will  get  back  to you  as  soon  as  we  can.

Seafield Snippets – Friday 13th June

This week has been all about the “big” transitions as we sent our P7 pupils off to have a few days in their secondary schools and also welcomed our incoming P1 for a visit to their classroom!  Our P7 have come back excited about the days that they spent in Deans Community High School and ready to get stuck into pulling together their Leavers Assembly which will be shared with their families during the final week of term. We had our current P1 class assembly this morning and our youngest school learners did a brilliant job of performing for their families.  They were confident and sang well and everyone left with a smile on their face!  We also managed to hold our nursery sports today although the weather did force us inside part way through.  The children finished off their events in the school hall but still managed to have a great time!

Thank to everyone who attended our Sharing our Learning sessions on Wednesday.  As always, there is a nice buzz around the school when these sessions take place and we look forward to continuing to offer these next year.

We have a relatively quiet week next week in school as staff use the time to complete any outstanding pieces of work and round off the topics that classes have been working on in recent weeks before a more relaxed and fun week in the last week of term.  We hope to be able to send out end of year reports towards the end of next week and will let you know when to look out for these in school bags.

Wishing everyone a nice weekend when it arrives, Lynne Egan.

Wednesday 18th – 2nd P5/6 bikeability group have their final session today.
