Seafield Snippets – Friday 26th September

It has been a quick week with having the Monday holiday!  We’ve had a few visitors to school this week.  P2/3 welcomed the local DISCO group to share some of their learning about Seafield in days gone by and P6/7 worked with the organisation “Nil By Mouth” on some interesting activities.  You will likely hear more about these events by looking at the class blog.  Mrs Flynn held a learning event for P2/3 parents and carers, recapping on the use of Seesaw and ways to support literacy at home.  She will be continuing to run workshops for parents in the coming months so look out for more information about these.

I am going to be working across Seafield and Meldrum next week depending on the diary commitments for each school.  I will be in close contact with Mr Hamilton on the days that I am based at Meldrum and can still be contacted via the school office should anyone need to reach me.  I will share details about future arrangements for Seafield when I have more information.

Next Week

Monday – P3/4 Multisports after school club; P2/3 to have visit from Museum

Tuesday – Mrs Baird in P2/3 today

Thursday – Rights Respecting Schools Steering Group meeting at 9.30am (parents interested in being part of this group should contact Mr Hamilton); P5 – P7 Football after school club; P7 Open evening at DCHS 5.30pm – 7pm

Have a nice weekend everyone!  Lynne Egan.

Primary 6/7 – Friday 26th September

Primary 6/7 have had a brilliant week with lots of exciting learning activities in class and two amazing sessions with visitors from Nil By Mouth to our classroom on Thursday. On Friday morning, we discussed our week in school and decided that we would like to share these thoughts about our learning this week:

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • We really enjoyed PE as it was our last session playing iron/chipping shots in golf and we have all made great improvements with our golf swings and controlling our shots and we also thought that it was lots of fun
  • We really enjoyed our STEM workshop with Jamie from Nil By Mouth yesterday because we were given a great task to construct a wheelbarrow out of Meccano in our small groups
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our first outdoor learning session when we were able to go outwith the school grounds and make dens and play in the woods nearby the school
  • We also really enjoyed the other workshop that we had on Thursday morning with Dave from Nil By Mouth as we were learning about discrimination and identity by doing some interesting and fun activities
  • Lots of us enjoyed our work in French on Language Nut yesterday
  • Many of us enjoyed our Adobe Express session on Wednesday where we created our “Day in Data” document as part of Maths Week Scotland
  • Some of us enjoyed our division review work in Maths as we felt it was great to learn how to avoid having a remainder when doing division sums

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Some of us found the STEM workshop where we had to create the wheelbarrow quite tricky as there weren’t any instructions and we had to work out the process in our groups
  • Some of us found our Maths work on division review quite tricky as we started to work on the process for written division sums

Our lead learners for this week were Harvey, Amelia, Jake and Ruaridh and they set the following targets for our class; Be responsible in the playground, Don’t make silly noises in class, Be responsible if you are working outside the classroom and Don’t speak across the classroom or when the teacher is speaking. The fantastic news is that our lead learners noticed lots of people meeting those targets this week. Well done!

Our school value award winners for this week are Archie and Annie. Congratulations!

Well done for a wonderful week, P6/7. Have a lovely weekend.

Primary 2/3 Friday 26th September

We have had another fantastic week in Primary 2/3 and we particularly enjoyed our visits from the DISCO group on Tuesday and Reverend Boyd on Thursday.  These visits supported our learning about our community past and present.

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well)

  • To celebrate Maths Week Scotland we used natural materials to play a variety of maths games during our Outdoor Learning time.
  • During writing, we thought of a lot of different adjectives to use when creating descriptions about Autumn.
  • We were developing our communicating skills during our play activities.
  • We loved looking at the slides Reverend Boyd showed us about how the church had changed.
  • We also loved talking with the DISCO group members about how their life was different to ours when they were young.

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • We revisited our Flower Petal rich task and although we were able to solve the number problem this time, we still found it difficult to explain the strategy we had used.
  • We found it difficult to think of questions when doing a reading task so we will do more work on this.

Our value award winners for this week are Milly for being responsible and Freddie for being ambitious.  Well done!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well)

  • We think that our 2D and 3D shape work with Mrs Bain went really well this week.
  • We have enjoyed practising different rules and sounds in Literacy.
  • Some of us finished our shields this week and were able to take them home!
  • We have also really enjoyed doing estimating and rounding in Numeracy.
  • We are really proud of our spelling test results this week too!

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Some of us feel as though we need to keep being resilient with areas in Numeracy. Some areas are challenging but we will keep working hard!
  • We want to keep pushing ourselves with our comprehension skills in Literacy.
  • We also really want to focus on continuing to show kindness to everyone in our class.

Seafield Snippets – Thursday 18th September

I can’t quite believe that we are already at the September weekend although I think you can feel a change in the air, particularly in the mornings.  On this note, we would please again ask that all children wear or bring a coat/jacket to school going forward.  This will allow us to continue to be outdoors as much as possible.  Our outdoor learning sessions will continue as long as there are no safety issues with the weather (high winds/slippy surfaces) so please make sure that on your child’s outdoor learning day, they come to school equipped for outdoors.  If you require any assistance to make sure your child is able to take part, please contact me and school can provide support in a confidential and sensitive way.

Please find attached information about Xcite West Lothian’s Outdoor programme which they are running over the October holiday. https://online.flippingbook.com/view/989489272/

A reminder that the school is closed on Friday 19th and Monday 22nd September.  The ELC remains open for normal hours.  If your ELC child will not be attending for their usual sessions, please telephone the nursery on either the main number or the nursery mobile.  Please do not send an email or groupcall text as these communication channels will not be accessed until return on Tuesday.  I hope that everyone enjoys the long weekend and look forward to seeing the children and staff back on Tuesday!

Kind regards, Lynne Egan.

Next Week

Monday – School closed; ELC open

Tuesday – Mrs Egan out of school at training session AM; DISCO group visiting P2/3 PM

Seafield Snippets – Friday 12th September

Welcome to this week’s Seafield Snippets.  We have now had all of our family welcome breakfasts which were really well attended, many thanks to all those who came along.  The children always enjoy the chance to have their family members visit the classroom and the pancakes are another highlight! An e-form link has been shared to allow families to give feedback on these sessions, please take a few minutes to complete this if you can. Destination Judo tasters finished the week off nicely.  Mrs Baird and I attended the West Lothian Health and Wellbeing Conference this morning and took part in some informative workshops.  We will share key messages with the wider staff team at our next meeting.

I hope that everyone enjoys the weekend!  Lynne Egan.

P5/6

Tickled Pink

  • We enjoyed learning about the Industrial Revolution in Social Studies. We learned that coal and steam played a huge part in shaping our world and that children even younger than us were sent up chimneys and into factories to work.
  • In writing we developed our description skills further and wrote about a forest, using synonyms, similes and metaphors.
  • For PE we have begun learning about hockey and have begun learning the skill of keeping the ball close to the stick and attacking an opponents ball.

Green for Growth

  • We are continuing to practise carrying over in addition and making sure that we always carry over the tens and never the ones.
  • Our listening skills still need more practise, especially during instructions.

Lead learners this week are Jack and Rosa.

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well):

  • We really enjoyed our review of multiplication in Maths as lots of felt that we were making good progress and that we were learning new strategies for trickier multiplication sums
  • We continued to enjoy our work on describing settings in Writing this week as we enjoyed trying to use lots of interesting vocabulary to describe places and we also loved that we were given the opportunity to choose the setting s we were describing
  • We continued to enjoy developing our golf skills in PE as we focused on iron or chip shots. We are improving the control and accuracy of our shots and we were motivated by the opportunity to win shillings by playing precise shots
  • We enjoyed buddying on Friday morning and getting the chance to play with our P1 buddies in the playground
  • Lots of us enjoyed the family breakfast on Thursday and getting the chance to welcome adults into our classroom
  • Many of us enjoyed French and RME with Mrs Flynn on Thursday as we learned lots of new vocabulary in French and enjoyed researching in RME

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • Some of us found our Adobe Express session for Roald Dahl Day on Thursday a bit tricky due to issues with getting onto Adobe Express using the school i-Pads, however, lots of us also really enjoyed this session and developing our digital skills
  • Some of us felt that we didn’t have enough time for our research in RME, so we are looking forward to getting back to it next week

Our school value award winners for this week are Amelia and Harvey. Congratulations!

Well done for an excellent week, P6/7. Have a lovely weekend.

P2/3 12 th September 2025

It has been another busy week in P2/3.

Tickled Pink;

  • We have been busy creating our own wee village. We designed our own houses and then laminated  them. We then put them in a container and planted grass seed and wild flower seeds. We need to take care of the seeds so that our houses have a garden.
  • We learning about different seeds and enjoyed investigating conkers.
  • We enjoyed doing PE outside with different stations
  • We sent our letters to the Disco group to ask them to come in and visit us and talk about village life when they were growing up.

Green for Growth;

  • It was hard drawing both sides of the houses.
  • Making the big house for our wall display.
  • It was tricky using Tens and Ones to make numbers to 100

Primary 3/4 – Friday 12th September

We have had another fantastic week in Primary 3/4! Especially after our Judo taster session this morning.

Tickled Pink (things that we feel went well)

  • We really enjoyed actually making our Roman shields in Art this week! We used paint and card to make them life size!
  • Some of us enjoyed learning about food chains in Science. We can now explain what this is!

  • We all enjoyed participating in the Judo session on Friday morning. We loved learning the moves and skills.
  • We always love sharing our items for show and tell with our peers!

Green for Growth (things that we need to do to improve our learning)

  • We have continued to work on not shouting out our answers this week. Although this has been better, we want to make sure it’s the same every week!
  • In numeracy we found some of our work a bit tricky. However, we continue to try our best and be resilient.
  • Some of us found working with shapes a bit hard this week, especially as we were discussing new concepts.

Our value award winners for this week are Chloe for being resilient and Lucas M for being ambitious! Well done!

Blake and Harley were also chosen by the children as the pupil council reps for Primary 3/4! Fab work!

Have a lovely weekend, see you on Monday.
