P4

This week in Primary 4 we have been very busy planning our Library Corner for the competition which is being judged on Friday morning.

We started by drawing a plan of what we would like our corner to be.  We used our listening and talking skills to discuss what it should look like and what should be on the walls to encourage us to look after it and use it. We then put our ideas onto paper and drew a plan.  We had some super ideas which were then discussed within the class and we made a list of the ones we could do on the board. We then got to work. We all worked cooperatively and made book covers, talked about our favourite authors and books, we made book ends for the shelves and made our own library.  We set it around the theme of the BFG by Roald Dahl which is our new class novel. We hope to add to it to keep it exciting and fun to use!  Today was all about being creative!

Our Week in P2/3

This week has been very exciting for us! We have been reading Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and received a letter from Mr Wonka himself! He set us the challenge to find out where chocolate comes from and the journey it takes from bean to bar. We have been enjoying exploring and sequencing the process and are continuing to make predictions and summarising what we have read so far.

In numeracy some of us have started to use an empty number line to think about the position and value of numbers. This strategy will then be used to help us solve addition and subtraction problems. Some of us have been using rekenreks to think about the different ways that we can make a given number and have also been using this for addition. In mathematics we have been looking at shapes and their properties.

We have been continuing to make predictions about what might happen next in our reading books and have been using clues from the title, pictures and words to help us. We have been enjoying using Iggy the Iguana to encourage us to think out loud about our predictions when reading.

This week’s learning in P5, 5/10/18

This week we have been learning about multiplication (Connie) and finding the halfway point between 2 numbers (Ella).

Devon explained how to find the halfway point : ” You find the difference between 2 numbers, half it and then add it to the smaller number”.

Eve explained another strategy : ” You add the two numbers together and then half it”.

We have also been decorating our library corner in our spy theme – photos to follow!

Some of the class also went to the Big Scottish Breakfast this morning – look at what Cailan made!

Primary 4/5

P 4/5 have been learning to add and subtract numbers using different strategies this week. In writing, we focused on using interesting adjectives in a text and worked hard on cursive handwriting.

Music

This week in Primary 1-3 we have been singing our friendship song. We moved to the pulse of the music and copied the rhythm of the words. We then made friendship cards to give to others to say thank you for being our friends.

In Primary 4 we listened again to ‘Zadok the Priest’ and discussed the music, focussing on dynamics and tempo. Using their imagination, the children then went on to create a movie that reflected the music.

In Primary 5-7 we were learning about different genres in music. This week we focussed on Reggae music, considering the tempo and of the music and the style. We sang Three Little Birds and found the pulse of the music and copied the rhythms. We discussed the background of Reggae music and considered the main instruments we could hear. The children then designed their own ‘Peace’ signs.
