Amazing Arrays in P3

This week in primary 3 we have been continuing to learn about multiplication. We have been exploring different strategies to help us solve multiplication sums. This week we have been learning about arrays and feel confident in using these as a strategy for any multiplication sum. We enjoyed creating arrays using play-doh and whiteboards. We even took our learning outside and used natural materials to create arrays.

P2/3 weekly update

This week we were very excited when we came into class on Thursday morning to find there was a green screen attached to our large whiteboard. We curiously explored underneath thinking something was hidden but we later found out its purpose. During our reading lesson we used Ipads and the green screen to video record our connections. When we looked back at the recordings on the Ipad we were speaking against the back drop from our reading book. In writing we used a picture of the Isle of Struay on the Ipads and recorded ourselves in front of the green screen convincing people to come visit. This time when we looked back at our recording it was like we were in the Isle of Struay.

In topic we have been using national geographic map maker in our ‘families’ to create our own Island and label the human and physical features. We are really enjoying this and love using technology to help us with our learning!

P3’s World Book Day

Primary 3 had a fantastic day yesterday celebrating World Book Day. We kicked off our day with a ‘Big Booky Breakfast’ where we enjoyed coming to school in our pyjamas, eating toast and sharing our favourite books. We then took part in Mrs Smart’s whole school book quiz in our houses, well done Young for coming first place!

We continued our day with various other activities to celebrate reading including paired reading with primary 4, designing new front covers for our favourite books, and making bookmarks.

We rounded off World Book day by sharing our learning in a whole school assembly this morning. It was great to see how other classes celebrated this exciting day.

P2/3 World book day

On Thursday 7th March we celebrated world book day! We came to school in our pyjamas and started our day with the ‘big booky breakfast.’ We ate some toast and read stories to our friends. After break time we got to read together with P4/5, we had lots of fun. We also carried out lots of reading related activities such as making bookmarks and watching bbc’s authors live. To finish  our day some of our parents came into school and we read with them too. We loved sharing and talking about all things books!

P2/3 STEM

In topic this week we were put into cooperative learning groups called ‘Island families’. In our families we used the Ipads to research and find out about traditional Scottish surnames. We then decided on a family surname and in our families used different technology to research and find information about the Isle of Coll. We used different websites to help us find information and explored the island through google maps and images.

On Friday in our family groups we were set a STEM challenge to set up a cup pyramid using string and elastic bands but we were not allowed to directly touch it with our hands. We spoke about the process of construction and that the first solution may not always work so it is important to go back and reflect on what could have been improved. We are going to be working on our challenge on Friday.
