Our Week in P6

This week we did research on astronauts and learned about their background and life in space. We used this information to write a non-chronological report on an astronaut of our choice. In numeracy, we learned how to use the grid method to help us multiply 2 digit by 2 digit numbers mentally. We had to solve a word riddle, where we had to match our answers to letters that were spread around the classroom. Our school show was also launched and we are excited to be auditioning next week for a part in Joseph and The Technicolor Dream Coat!

Book week in P6!

Primary 6 have had a very fun-filled and imaginative week! We have been studying our class novel, A Series of Unfortunate Events-The Bad Beginning, in depth and created our own setting descriptions of Count Olaf’s House. We really achieved our learning intention by being able to use a range of writing techniques such as similes, the five senses and descriptive adverbs. We enjoyed being able to use a variety of our boost words in our writing. We got so enthusiastic about our class novel that we decided to decorate our door as the front cover of the book. We had fun experimenting with paint and using the skills we had learned before to create a detailed effect. We also created a new corridor display in the school which shows a scene from the book and has our fantastic setting descriptions displayed. Photos of this will be posted soon!

Primary 6-Blitz Pictures

The highlight of the week in primary 6 was learning how to create their own blitz pictures. In art, the pupils learned how to use colour to create a detailed effect. We used a range of pictures as a stimulus to help us identify what colours we would need to use and how we could create a fire effect. The pupils worked cooperatively to discuss their ideas and came up with a range of different ways the fire could be displayed in the background. We then practiced the skill of blending, using the crayon pastels, to mix the colours together. Primary 6 put so much effort into their artwork and were enthusiastic to show them to others.

Topic in P6

This week primary 6 have been researching and taking notes on the topic of evacuation. They have been learning to identify key facts, put information into their own words and use headings. They are using this information to create a 3d poster in groups. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed learning about children in the war and comparing this with their own life.
