P1 news

What a busy week we have had in P1 with so much learning going on.

In Literacy we worked on the ‘ee’ sound.  We played snap ‘ee’ game, filled in missing letters to make ‘ee’ words, made words out of play-dough, sorted different sounds on the computer and even made our own sheep!

In our Numeracy tasks we were looking at different ways to make 5 using concrete materials and doing lots of counting of Christmas baubles, ladybird spots and even cars. In Maths we continued to learn about weight and used the pan scales to see which objects were heaviest.  We also learned about symmetry.

And of course, this week we performed in our Nativity, The Sleepy Shepherd.  It went really well and Mrs Mackie was so proud of us for learning so much in such a short time.

Next week, we will have our Christmas party on the afternoon of WEDNESDAY 19th.  We can come to school in our party clothes or bring them in a labelled carrier bag and get changed after lunch.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Not long to go now!

Ho, ho, ho!

ELC Christmas Parties

The last week before Christmas is approaching and we have lots of exciting activities for the children. Our Christmas Parties are coming up this coming week and we may have a special visitor.

Tuesday 18th December is our PM Party

Wednesday 19th December is our AM Party

Our children who attend full day sessions can bring a change of clothes with them and a member of staff can help them get changed.

Please come along to our sing-a-long and to see our special visitor at 2:30pm on Tuesday or 10:30am on Wednesday. Feel free to take a photograph of your own child when they receive a gift from Santa.

We look forward to celebrating with you all!

P2/1 Learning

We have had a busy week as always!

In Literacy we have been learning the sounds: z and g.  Ask us words/items beginning with these sounds! 🙂 To help us remember these sounds we created our own zebras and goats!

In Numeracy we have been learning to add and focusing on the concept of counting on.  We have been consolidating all the phrases associated with adding (count on, add on, jump on, add, more) and trying to keep “numbers in our head” and counting on.

We have been continuing with our Scotland focus in IDL.  We learned all about Scotland’s famous flower the Thistle, the Loch Ness Monster and Tartan.  We created our own tartan pattern by paper weaving!  This was tricky but none of us gave up!  We kept trying “like Ormie”.  (Ask us about Ormie…..you can even watch the little clip of Ormie on Youtube with your child! 🙂 )  In funky fingers we finger painted our very own Thistles and at our imagination station we created our own stories about Nessie!

Nativity practise has come to an end this week as we put on a dress Rehearsal of it for the whole school!  We hope to see you there on Wednesday.  We have worked so hard and want to show you our amazing singing! 🙂

Miss Akram and P2/1

P1 weekly news.

What a week we have had in P1 with lots of learning going on.

In Maths, we learned about capacity and helped Will the Wizard organise his potions in order from empty to half full and full.  Then we had to order his other potions in order from the least amount to the most amount.

We reinforced our learning by experimenting in the sand area, filling up different containers and talking confidently about whether they were empty or full or half full.

In Numeracy we have been continuing to ‘count on’.  The strategy we use for this is to put the ‘big’ number in our heads and use our fingers or other materials to help us add.  We have been using the computers to help reinforce this.

In our Plan, Play & Review groups we chose to find 2D shapes in the playground.  We found lots of different shapes and could name them.

We made colourful Christmas trees using strips of paper which we had to measure starting with the shortest to the longest piece.

We learned the sounds ‘l’ and ‘r’ in Literacy this week.  We wrote them in our jotters, on coloured paper with pens, pencils, chalks and crayons and in sand.  We also used cubes to build the sounds. We looked for the sounds in books, leaflets and magazines.

We had a surprise PE lesson with Mrs Logan on Tuesday.  She really made us work hard in our groups but it was great fun.

On Wednesday we had our Christmas lunch.  Ms Macrae rang a bell and we all walked along the corridor singing ‘Jingle Bells’.  The lunch was delicious and we enjoyed sitting together as a class to eat our lunch.  Mrs Mackie even had lunch with us!

We had our dress rehearsal for our nativity today in front of the other boys and girls.  It was good to perform in front of an audience and now we can’t wait until we get to perform for our families next week.  We haven’t included any photographs of our rehearsal as it is a surprise for Wednesday!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!
