Murrayfield Gets Healthy!

As part of our Healthy Families, Healthy Children focus, P6 have been learning all about food preparation and hygiene. We have tasted a range of exciting fruits some delicious (mango!) and some not so delicious (beetroot!). We really enjoyed trying these fruits and using powerful adjectives to describe them!

We also prepared a class Greek salad and all managed to have a taste… You can see by our faces that we enjoyed it!

Learning Sounds and Topic

The P1s in the Language Centre have been sorting pictures which start with the m sound (red – loud sound made with the lips), c sound (yellow – sound made at back of throat) and s sound (blue – quiet sound made with the tongue) whilst the P2s have been learning about the differences between the b and h sounds.

All the children are listening very carefully for first sound by colouring in the cat’s head and the last sound by colouring in the cat’s tail.

Our topic work has focussed on daily routine, healthy food choices and activities which use a little energy and those which use a lot of energy.

P3 Class Photo

Here is my lovely class posing for their class photo.

p3 have had a greate few weeks and are ready to start their new topic of Katie Morag and Island Life. I think they will be finding out lots of fun and exciting things in this topic and doing lots of fun art work with P3A.

We will also be working through our Healthy Families topic and doing a tasting session of yummy food. I hope the boys and girls are excited!

Frankie & Benny’s Visit

Primary 5/4 has had a fantastic morning learning how to make tasty and healthy pizzas at Frankie & Benny’s.  Unfortunately not so many children took the healthier vegetable option but they had great fun tucking into their pizzas made by their own hands!  We would like to thank Frankie & Benny’s for giving us the opportunity to do this and hope the children will start making some of their own healthy pizzas at home.  They were all natural chefs! Keep an eye out for pictures of our fun trip that will be added shortly.

Sports Afternoon

Our sports afternoon will be held on Wednesday 19th June at 1.30pm in the back playground (weather permitting). As in previous years the children will complete activities  in their vertical groups. If possible we have asked the children to wear something in their house colours (see below) for sports afternoon. Parents and Carers are welcome to come along and watch.

The houses and colours are:

Stewart: blue, Wallace: red, Douglas: yellow, Bruce: green.

Vaccine Information – Measles, Mumps and Rubella

It’s not too late to protect your child against Measles, Mumps and Rubella.

NHS Lothian is running a catch-up campaign for young people aged 10 to 17 years who have not received two doses of MMR vaccine.

Some young people missed out on the MMR vaccination when they were younger. Two doses of the vaccine are required to ensure protection.

Information has been sent to parents and guardians of children who are 10 to 17 years old whose health records show they may not have completed the full course of MMR vaccination. NHS Lothian is encouraging parents and guardians of these children to contact their General Practice to arrange MMR vaccination for their child.

To find out more, visit immunisationscotland.org.uk or contact your GP.
