P7 News :)

It is so lovely to have all the P7’s back from camp. It sounds like they had a fabulous time and we missed them dearly 🙂

Our class enterprise is going really well and we shall be making our orders this Wednesday. Tomorrow will be the last day for orders. Thank you so much to everyone who has already ordered a lovey goodie bag.

This week our Big Talk homework will be on someone that you admire. Think about someone close to you or someone famous that you admire and write down some ideas to bring into class. We will be discussing vocabulary that is relevant for this writing on Tuesday.

Thank you!

Miss Moir 🙂

This week in P4.

This week, Jake came in to give us a taster session of Judo. We learned that to earn points and win at Judo, we have to get opponents on their back. Jake was very good at Judo and made us laugh with his funny jokes. We loved it!

This week, our Literacy has had a Guy Fawkes theme –

Our reading comprehension was based on fireworks and bonfires. We were focusing on answering in sentences, using the question to help form our answers.

In writing, we retold the story of The Gunpowder Plot. After watching a powerpoint about it and discussing the facts, we split the story into beginning, middle and end and, in groups, recorded the facts we needed to include for each section. We then used this to help us to retell the story in a logical sequence.

Mr Glen, from NYCOS (National Youth Choir of Scotland) visited us on Tuesday. He will be with us for the next 10 weeks. We were playing games that helps us practice beat and rhythm.

In Numeracy this week, we have been practicing rounding our numbers to the nearest 10. The rule is – if the number ends in 1-4, then we round down, if it ends in 5-9, then we round up to the next multiple of ten. This will help us to estimate calculations, which is a very handy skill to have! We have also been working on doubles/near doubles, another addition strategy. We’ve found a great song that helps us remember our double numbers. Jack P and Sasha were ‘doubles’ champions today, when we were working on doubling 20, then doubling the answer again and again. They doubled all the way to 20480, mentally!!!  Mrs Stewart was really pleased that we gave them both a clap, as it shows that we are encouraging each other in our learning, as well as showing respect to others. 🙂

As part of our review of RESPECT, we were discussing how every one of us in unique and we are looking forward to finishing off our ‘unique’ characters next week, before we give them a name and write about them.

If you’re celebrating Bonfire Night this weekend, have fun, but please stay safe by following the safety rules!

Have a lovely weekend! 🙂

Dalguise – Day 3 and 4 Update

Hi All,

Well we’ve reached the final evening and by now all our little cherubs should be in or heading to the land of nod!  They finished their fantastic residential camp with a disco and when I spoke to Mrs Millar earlier this evening they were getting their party outfits ready before heading for dinner.  Not long now until you get to give them a big hug….which I’m sure they can’t wait for either!  Enjoy your last hours of peace/ freedom and we’ll keep you posted on their safe return to school.  We’re looking forward to getting them all home and hearing wonderful stories about the activities and challenges they took part in.  Here are a few more photographs to keep you going until tomorrow.

Dalguise – A Variety of Photographs from Day 2 and 3

Sorry for the delay, I’ve had trouble with the internet on and off in school and at home and have been unable to access the blog all day.  However, I have finally managed to post some more photographs for you to enjoy having a look at (the only problem is I can’t get the images to rotate so some are on their side, sorry!!)  The teachers report that all is going well and that the children have been taking part in activities such as problem solving, fencing, riding quad bikes and the zip wire!

Looks like the staff are having fun too

Blackburn Schools’ Football Festivals

The 1st of Blackburn Schools’ Football Festivals took place yesterday afternoon at New Murrayfield Park with 4 teams participating. Murrayfield Primary School were represented with 1 team and they did exceptionally well winning all of their games! The most important aspect of this and the other festivals is to encourage boys and girls to participate in and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle as well as showing excellent team skills and sportsmanship. It was also an opportunity to highlight many of the great sporting clubs available to the children within our community.

The pupils from Murrayfield were a credit to the school and their community and should be proud of their achievements yesterday.  The next festival takes place on Tuesday 28th March 2017 when hopefully it will be a bit warmer than yesterday afternoon!

Well done to the following for their participation yesterday:

Joshua McKelvie, Dale Robertson, Connor Martin, Carter Vickery, Steven Gilfillan, Aiden Callaghan, Callum McMillan, Blake Newell, Brennan Manclark, Aaron Adamson, Kyle Harkins and Ben Howden.

P7/6 Enterprise Initiative

Please note that a letter will be given to the oldest in the family confirming the information below.

As part of Primary 7/6’s “Make It Grow” enterprise initiative, we have decided to hold a “Neon Disco” on Wednesday afternoon on 9th NOVEMBER in the gym hall.  The first session of 45/50 minutes will be for primary’s 1-3 and the second session will be for primary’s 4-7. The children should come dressed down in brightly coloured clothing for the day and bring along £1 for the event.

We will also be selling glow bands for 30p and these will be available on the day (Primary 7/6 will come around the classes to ensure everyone gets an opportunity to buy these!).

The background to this event is we have been working with DJ Paul N’Jie who has a longstanding reputation for being Scotland’s “ambassador for Urban Music”. He has shared his expertise with us and taught us some of the skills needed to become a highly sought after DJ and we are keen to share our learning experiences with the rest of the school.

Many thanks for your continued support and remember to WEAR SOMETHING BRIGHT!

Dalguise Update

Yesterday the children took part in two activities during the day, the tree climb and the trapeze.  Mrs Millar sent me a message to say how happy all the children were and that the staff are extremely proud of how well they challenged themselves during the activities.  (photographs attached)

Mrs Millar reports that the only person to slip and slide was herself … apparently there is a lovely peachy bruise! (no photograph attached!)
