The children have been taking part in a variety of activities today. The next couple of posts will be photographs of how they are getting on. Mrs Waugh

P6 & P7 Dounans Centre – Tuesday Morning Update
Hi all,
Here are some early morning photographs of some of our campers heading off to breakfast this morning! Hope they fill up as they are going to need their energy today!
P6 & P7 Dounans Centre – End of Day 1
Dear Parents,
Final text messages from staff have been to let me know that all is well with our happy campers. There has been much excitement all day and the tuck shop went down well apparently! Apart from the odd towel that hasn’t been packed (don’t worry the staff have this covered now!) everything is going smoothly.
Last messages indicated that most children were out like a light by just after 9.30pm (which is really not bad for the first night when they are full of excitment and sugar!)
Sleep well folks and we’ll update further tomorrow!
Goodnight from Dounans & Mrs Waugh x
P.S Sorry about the grey blocks within some of the photographs there must have been a problem when I downloaded these files, I will try these again in the morning.
P6 & P7 Dounans Update – What a Busy First Day!!!!
Hi all,
Just a little update for the evening so you can see how the first day has gone.
Mrs Millar arrived safely after her course…hooray – she has the tuck shop items in the boot of her car!!!!
Everyone has had a very busy day, having completed group activities this afternoon and returning recently from a night walk through the forrest! It should be supper time around now and then an evening activity before teeth and bedding down for the night.
Remember if you click on the individual photograph it should enlarge on the screen…that way you can see their wee cheery faces…looks like they are having a blast!!!
Trying to post as photos come in – sorry if I haven’t got one of everybody yet…keep and eye out for updates throughout the week : )
P6 & P7 – Dounans Centre Residential Trip – Update
Snow Sculpture Book Characters
Sadly World Book day has passed and we didn’t get to share our wonderful outfits in the classroom, however we’re having the perfect weather to snuggle up with a good book. I’m busy switching between reading The Racehorse Who Wouldn’t Gallop by Clare Balding and Refugee by Alan Gratz, both books kindly lent to me by pupils in our class. What book are you reading? Remember this week’s homework – you were asked to bring in a book you’ve read recently for writing a book review on. We’ll do this when we get back to class, but please let me know what you’ve been reading while off. What part has intrigued you most about your book?
You could be creative and complete Artistic Ace in the snow! Can you guess which book inspired my character sculpture of a spider (with a little building help from my child)? I was going to dress as Fern for World Book Day.
Word Boost Snowy Day Story Challenge
Can you use our weekly words in a snowy day story? This week’s words are:
drone (v) – a continuous low humming sound
flinched (v) – Make a quick, nervous movement of the face or body as an instinctive reaction to fear or pain.
beacon (n) – a fire or light set up in a high or prominent position as a warning, signal, or celebration
precariously (adv) – In a way that is not securely in position and is likely to fall or collapse.
pleading (n) – the action of making an emotional or earnest appeal to someone
intrigued (v) – arouse the curiosity or interest of; fascinate
Remember to add in figurative language to your story to add interesting details to engage the reader.
You could post an interesting sentence using some of words onto the blog 🙂

Euroquiz postponed
Unfortunately the West Lothian heats of this year’s EUROQUIZ which were due to take place tomorrow have had to be postponed due to the snow. Hopefully a new date will be set soon and our Euro-tastic team will be able to put all their hard work to use. Thank you all for all your hard work and commitment so far Lewis, Mia, Zac, Robbie, Emma and Eryn! It has been a pleasure to work with you all – and fun too!
Difficulty accessing files from our blog
Thanks to everyone who let us know that they have been having difficulty accessing files from our blog today.
We think that the problem could be due to Word documents being uploaded. I’ve asked staff to upload files in PDF format going forward. In the meantime, please remember that if you do not have Word downloaded on your system at home, your child will be able to download the whole of Microsoft Office for FREE on up to 5 devices – yes FREE – through Glow. Not often you can say that nowadays! So, if you have put off paying a huge amount to buy Office, just look for the icon when you first log in to Glow, on your launch pad and set about downloading it.
If neither of these solve your downloading problems, please let us know. Thanks to Laura Compton for helping out!
