P5/4 and the Victorians

Hello everybody and welcome to our latest class blog. We have had another great week and were kept very busy by Mr Hardworkerson our new Victorian School Master! (Although he did look rather like our own Mr Richards!) This week we have:

* Enjoyed a series of lessons taught in the setting of a Victorian classroom including reading, writing and arithmetic!

* Carried out independent research to discover as much as we could about Victorian inventions (including our favourites of Jelly Babies and Ice Cream!)

* Investigated the similarities and differences between a beach holiday in 1890’s Edinburgh at Portobello Beach and a typical beach holiday today.

* Learned a traditional Victorian Song called “The Wild Honeysuckle” and it was very difficult to do because we don’t use some of the traditional words in the song anymore. We tried our very best and were successful learners.

We have really enjoyed our learning this week although Mr Hardworkerson is very strict! We hope Mr Richards is back next week for our trip to New Lanark Heritage Centre on Tuesday. We will post some pictures of our trip to next week’s blog. In the meantime, please enjoy our photographs from our Victorian Class and have a great weekend!

Highlights of the week for P5/4!

Hello again everyone. This week has been really busy and we have all been working so hard. On Tuesday we had a visit from Maureen Liddell of Museum Services and we were given the chance to handle some genuine Victorian artefacts! We loved it and we hope you enjoy our pictures below.

This week we have also:

* Worked on some targets for our literacy including reading, writing and talking & listening.

* Discovered more about the artist L.S. Lowry

* Found out about a new computer program called “Kodu” which allows us to create worlds & write computer programs and code. This is a real test of our skills in logical thinking!

On Monday 9th March, we will be taking part in a Victorian Day in class and Mr Richards has some genuine Victorian lessons to teach us! Photos will be posted to the blog next week so please keep an eye out.

Below are some pictures of our Museum Handling Session which we hope you enjoy!

Busy busy busy in P5/4!

Hello everyone! Another week goes by and this week we have:

* Taken part in a Street Jam session with Andy who was very inspirational and enthusiastic. Please check out our photos at the bottom of the page!

* Continued our NYCOS sessions with Mr Gregory and really enjoyed learning about beats and rhythms. More photos at the bottom of the page!

* Within our spelling, we have been learning how to use both sign language and morse code to enhance our learning. It was difficult to do at first but with practice, we became much more confident learners.

* Within our Victorians Topic we were learning about the famous painter Lowry who painted “matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs”! We will be trying out our own paintings very soon so watch this space. Next week we will be taking part in a Victorian handling session when we will be able to handle items used by the Victorians and understand a little more about the Victorian way of life. Photos will be added to the blog next week!

* Finally it is quite a sad day for P5/4 as we say goodbye to Corey who is moving to a new school next week. We are all going to miss him and wish him every success at his new school!
