Today was the last day for Roots of Empathy in P3A. Everyone got a certificate! We thought about all the things we have been learning this year in Roots of Empathy.

We finished our painted tartan designs – look out for them on a display soon.
We were learning past and present tenses of verbs in Grammar. We can do this by adding ed and ing on some verbs.
The Squares have been learning about taking away. We were learning quarter past and quarter to on an analouge clock.
The Triangles have been doing a check up to see how much we have learned about subtraction. We were learning about quarter to and quarter past on a digital clock.
The Circles have been learning a new strategy for adding 2 digit numbers. We were learning how to change times from analouge to digital and solving time problems.
In Writing we were learning how to make up a Fairy tale.
In Spelling some groups were learning the igh pattern and the magic e with u.
Others were learning words with the ur, ir, or letter strings.
We started our new topic all about Castles. We have made a huge list of all the things we want to find out. We are going to be busy.
We were practising different skills with Mr Benyon in PE.
Head Teacher Awards this week is for Lewis Dickie and his fantastic Monster Story. He used his planning sheet well and wrote an exciting tale.

In writing this week we were writing about When I found a Monster. We used our Planning Sheet to help us.
In Grammar we were learning all about adjectives.
In spelling, one group we were learning words with er. Another group were learning ing words and magic e with the letter u.
In PE we were doing different stations with Mr Benyon. We were learning skills with a hockey stick – stopping and striking. We were improving our jumping skills- jumping over ropes. We were also using our balancing skills – walking slowly on a narrow upturned bench. We also had to sit on a large bouncy ball and throw another ball and keep our balance. We were also learning to climb up the high climbing frame.
In Maths one group were revising quarter to and quarter past and converting from analouge to digital.Another were practising all the times with an analouge clock. Another group was learning o’clock and half past and using the clocks we made to help.
In Art we were creating our own Tartan with different coloured paints. This is still a work in progress, but they are looking good.
In Roots of Empathy – Ali came in with baby Erica and Mummy Kelly. Baby Erica had grown alot since we last saw her.
The Skillionaires this week were :
Ellie – for understanding some of the Scots words we have been learning.
Zac – for explaining in his own words how to add 2 digit numbers together.
Next week the focus is on EVALUATE …………..
We have been busy this week practising for our Scottish Burns Assembly.

We have learned how to do Strip the Willow dance – which was great fun!
We made fantastic bagpipes as a Homework Challenge.
We started our mini topic about Scotland.
Rachel Ferguson and Ross Howard won a Head Teachers Award for magnificent Scotland covers in our Topic jotters.
We have been learning facts about Robert Burns.
In maths we have been learning TIME and some of us have been adding 2 digit numbers in chimney sums. Some of us have been subtracting from 20 and 30.
In Early Intervention some children have been learning how to spell words that end in double letters. Some have been learning the magic e and some learning words that end in “ing”.

We’re looking forward to having fun on Monday and Tuesday but from all In P3/2 have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year!
We have been having FUN this week :
We have been making penguins, paper snowflakes, tree decorations.
We have been writing fabulous acrostic poems about Christmas themes.
We have had our great Christmas party with the Primary 2s – lots of dancing, party games and party food.
We watched a Christmas Movie in the Hall – Mr Peabody & Sherman. We loved it.
We also watched a Panto performed by Bathgate Academy pupils with green goblins and a Princess. We thought it was amazing!
We won extra Golden Time today for the Best Improved class!!!! Yeah

We have been practising very hard for our Church Service. Please come along to Blackburn Parish Church next Tuesday at 1.30pm and join us.
The Parents from todays Assembly wanted a special mention to the Jingle Bell rocker Ross Howard. See photo above – he was fab!
So good infact he won a Head Teachers Award too.

Christmas Parties start next week!
Tuesday 16th December – Primary 3 and 2
Wednesday 17th December – Primary 1
Thursday 18th December – Primary 5 and 4
Monday 22nd December – Primary 7 and 6
Christmas Parties will be as year groups. All parties are in the afternoon. Pupils can bring their party clothes on the day to change into. Pupils are welcome to go home for lunch in order to change, but must inform the school.
