School trip to Cran Gevrier

Last weekend, Mrs Millar, Mrs Craig and Miss Gall went for a whistlestop trip to Cran Gevrier, near Annecy in France as part of a visit organised by the Bathgate/Cran Gevrier Twinning Committee, to develop twinning relationships between Bathgate Cluster feeder schools and schools in Cran Gevrier.

We were delighted by the response from our teaching colleagues in Cran Geverier, who came to meet us to talk about how to support our pupils’ learning.  After eating a delicious lunch rhey spent the afternoon with  us, showing us some of the beautiful sights in and around Cran Gevrier and Annecy.  We were then treated to another delicious, traditional meal of “Croziflette” and “jambon cru”, courtesy of the chairperson of the Twinning Committee.  It was a really wonderful weekend and we are all looking forward to sharing our memories with our children at Murrayfield and helping them to learn more about our French neighbours.

Food! Glorious food!

Today we have been learning about healthy food.

We had to say what we could have for a healthy dinner then we had to design a meal!  We drew broccoli, tomatoes, chicken, beef, potatoes and lots of other food which is healthy.

We also made chicken and ham wraps for our picnic tomorrow.  We spoke about the different things we need to do before preparing food such as washing our hands, tying back long hair and keeping our hands away from our mouths (and noses!).

We learned how to spread butter using a knife and how to safely cut our wraps into smaller pieces.

We have stored them in the fridge to keep fresh for tomorrow and  are looking forward to eating them all.

P2/1 are chilled out!

Today, we took part in ‘Relax Kids’ with Sharon.  She took us through 7 steps to help us relax and feel chilled out.  The 7 steps were:

  1. Move – to get our bodies warmed up.
  2. Play –  we played a game to help us get ready
  3. Stretch – this helps up to be more flexible.
  4. Feel – we massaged a partner (with their permission) or on our own bodies. Massage helps us to recognise kindness, empathy, positive touch.
  5. Breathe – to help us have clear minds so that we can relax. We used a feather to help us control our breathing.
  6. Believe – we spoke about one thing that we love and this helped us to feel confident and happy.
  7. Relax – we lay quietly under a cosy blanket and listened to a relaxing meditation story.

It was great fun and many of us enjoyed the relax step the best.

Some of us enjoyed it so much that we almost fell asleep!

Health Focus!

This week we are having a big focus on keeping healthy.

Yesterday the Fire Service came out to visit.  We got to look around the fire engine and speak to the fire fighters.

We enjoyed a bit of golf in the afternoon!  It was good fun!

Today,  we took part in the P7 Soccer Aid football challenge.  It was great fun and we all enjoyed it.  Thank you to P7 for organising it!

Last but not least, a big ‘well done’ to David who won our Healthy Homework challenge!

Keep checking back for more photos during our Health focus weeks.

Healthy and Eco week in P2/1

What a busy week in P2/1!

We have had a big focus on health and Eco this week as well as all of the other learning we do each each day.  In health we have been learning how to keep ourselves healthy by being active, eating or drinking 5 portions of fruit/veg each day, drinking enough each day and finding out why breakfast is so important to start the day.

We looked at how much sugar were in drinks and were surprised by what we found out!

We also took part in the Daily Mile each day and lots of Go Noodle during the day to keep us moving about!

We have also been learning about recycling.  We had to match up the different things that people throw out to the different recycling bins.  We looked at pictures of what might happen to our planet if we don’t recycle.  It was sad.

We took part in a recycling fashion show. We worked together in teams to make a costume for two of our classmates and Mrs Mackie!

Next week we will be taking part in lots of different activities which can help to keep us fit and healthy, including Golf, Soccer Aid (remember your donations) and Relax Kids!

Keep checking for more updates on our learning!

Blackburn Gala Day – Saturday 9th June

Come along and join the fun on Saturday.

All pupils and parents are welcome to come along and join Murrayfield parent council members and staff as they walk around the village as part of the procession, which takes place straight after the crowning ceremony.  Look out for our Super Mario themed school float which is currently under construction…we are hoping to scoop 1st prize again!  As usual there will be spaces available for nursery children and their parents (these spaces will be given on a first come basis)

The school have chosen to go with the theme Super Mario (easy costume idea – dungarees/jeans, brightly coloured t-shirt, pretend moustache) but you are welcome to come along as another cartoon character or approprate gaming character.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Sense of Touch

This afternoon in P2/1 we were exploring our sense of touch.  We have already had the opportunity to feel different textures with our hands to see if the were rough, smooth, hard, soft or bumpy.

So today we were finding out if we could sense a touch without using our fingertips.  We discovered that he can feel a touch on different parts of our bodies.  We learned that some body parts are more sensitive than others.

You can find out more about our learning later on this week.

P2/1 visit the Science Museum in Glasgow.

On Monday we went to the Science Museum in Glasgow.  We were all very excited and our journey began as soon as we got on the bus.  We saw lots of different things as we travelled to Glasgow.  When we were almost there we saw the Glasgow Armadillo, the Hydro (which we thought looked like a giant space ship) and the River Clyde.

Once inside the Science Museum we went to a workshop all about the senses.  We had to use of noses to smell different scents and see if we could name them.  We liked the chocolate smell the best!  We used our sense of touch to find out (without looking) what was in the box.  Granny used her ears to listen carefully as we tried to sneak up on her!  We had to use our eyes to look to see where the animals in Granny’s house were hiding and then we had to identify which ones disappeared!

After lunch it was time to explore!

We had a fantastic day and saw lots of amazing things!

Have a super long weekend.  See you all on Tuesday.

3D shape in P2/1

A few weeks ago in P2/1, we were learning about 3D shapes.  We took part in various activities such as looking for the shapes around the classroom, investigating as to whether the shapes rolled, stacked or both and also sorting real life objects into which shape they were.  Then we were set a 3D maths challenge.  We had to build a model from recycled materials such as cardboard tubes, cereal boxes etc BUT they had to include some of the 3D shapes that we had been learning about.  We brought them in to school this week and spoke about them.  They were so good that we invited Mrs Bruce to our class to have a look.  Mrs Mackie thought they were all fantastic and we wanted to share them with you all. Have a look at the amazing models we made….

Well done to everyone for all of their hard work!

Have a fantastic weekend.
