P1 weekly news.

What a week we have had in P1 with lots of learning going on.

In Maths, we learned about capacity and helped Will the Wizard organise his potions in order from empty to half full and full.  Then we had to order his other potions in order from the least amount to the most amount.

We reinforced our learning by experimenting in the sand area, filling up different containers and talking confidently about whether they were empty or full or half full.

In Numeracy we have been continuing to ‘count on’.  The strategy we use for this is to put the ‘big’ number in our heads and use our fingers or other materials to help us add.  We have been using the computers to help reinforce this.

In our Plan, Play & Review groups we chose to find 2D shapes in the playground.  We found lots of different shapes and could name them.

We made colourful Christmas trees using strips of paper which we had to measure starting with the shortest to the longest piece.

We learned the sounds ‘l’ and ‘r’ in Literacy this week.  We wrote them in our jotters, on coloured paper with pens, pencils, chalks and crayons and in sand.  We also used cubes to build the sounds. We looked for the sounds in books, leaflets and magazines.

We had a surprise PE lesson with Mrs Logan on Tuesday.  She really made us work hard in our groups but it was great fun.

On Wednesday we had our Christmas lunch.  Ms Macrae rang a bell and we all walked along the corridor singing ‘Jingle Bells’.  The lunch was delicious and we enjoyed sitting together as a class to eat our lunch.  Mrs Mackie even had lunch with us!

We had our dress rehearsal for our nativity today in front of the other boys and girls.  It was good to perform in front of an audience and now we can’t wait until we get to perform for our families next week.  We haven’t included any photographs of our rehearsal as it is a surprise for Wednesday!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Christmas dinner and Christmas jumpers

Just a reminder to wear your Christmas jumper on Wednesday 5th December if you have one and also to remind you that it’s that time of year again for a Jingle Bells walk down the corridor, followed by a delicious Christmas dinner, lovingly prepared by our wonderful team in the kitchen!

Always a treat!  What did you order this year?

P1 News

It has been a busy week in P1 again!

In Literacy,  we have been revising all of our sounds and using different activities to help us remember them.

We have been writing in sand and writing using different pens, pencils, crayons and chalks.

We have been looking for our sounds in books in our reading corner

In numeracy we have been working on careful counting skills.  We learned that it helps if we touch and move the objects we are counting or score them out (if they are on a worksheet) it stops us from counting them twice.  This is a good strategy to use!

We have been working on ‘counting on’ to help us with our addition skills.  We have to try and remember to put the big number in our heads before counting on the other numbers.

We have been using the laptops to play numeracy games to help reinforce our learning.

Mrs Mackie was pleased to hear that one of our class members has been working on his numeracy skills at home using the number activity pack that was in his Bookbug bag!  Well done A-Jay!

We have also been busy making our Christmas items which will be on sale at the Christmas Fayre on Wednesday 5th December.

Our Nativity show is approaching soon.  Please remember to get your tickets from the school office as soon as you can as they are selling out fast!

Please remember that we will be having outdoor PE/outdoor learning even if it is cold or wet (unless it is not safe for us to be out) so please help us to wrap up warmly each day.

Have a good weekend.

P2/1 News

Hi and welcome to P2/1’s first blog post!

Now that we have all our photo permissions you will be seeing us regularly! 🙂

We had a busy last week with Miss Akram and Miss Wyllie. Miss Wyllie was with us for 5 weeks but sadly she had to go back to university!  We will all miss her and appreciate all her hard work and input in teaching us! 🙂

We have been learning the sounds r and b this week.  We created buzzing bees and beautiful butterflies to help us remember the “b” sounds.  We created rabbits, roads and rainbows to help us with our “r” sound.  We have also been working hard on our blending so that we can read and write.  Ask us what strategy we use to blend!  Show us the words:

hat, bat and rat and see if we can show you our strategy to blend the sounds in these words to read 🙂

If your child is a P2 child show us the words: run, hop and bin 🙂

In Numeracy, we have been learning about addition and using the strategy of counting on to understand addition.  Show us a + sign and ask us what is called and what it means! 🙂

It was Road Safety week so we were learning how to cross a road safely and what the colours of a traffic light mean.

Thank you for the parents/carers who popped in to see us on Wednesday for the bookbug/Read, Write and Count bags launch and helped us design our own special robots!

Last week Miss Wyllie taught us Gaelic as we have been learning all about Scotland; ask us how to say Hello in Gaelic! 🙂

Have a lovely weekend!

Primary 1 News

It has been another busy week in P1 with lots of learning going on.

This week we learned the sound ‘x’.  One of our tasks was to look in a dictionary to see what ‘x’ words we could find.  There weren’t many but we were still able to find the ‘x’ sound.

We have been doing lots of reinforcement of counting skills and adding using ‘counting on’ in our numeracy sessions.

On Wednesday we invited our parents along to the class to listen to one of the stories from our Bookbug Bags.  It was all about a little Robot called Benny and his emergency button!  Ask us about the story and we can tell you about the story. A big thank you to all the grown ups who came along to hear the story with us.

As part of Road Safety Week, we learned  about Road Safety on Thursday. We played games with Miss Kerfoot to help us learn about keeping ourselves safe . We used our cutting skills to make our own traffic lights and can talk about what the different colours mean to drivers on the road.  We can tell you about safe places to cross the road and how we cross a road safely.  We can demonstrate how to cross a road safely when out and about in our community.

Miss Kerfoot, who has been with us for the past 5 weeks has gone back to University.  We have enjoyed having her help us learn new things in our classroom and will miss her.  Good luck on your adventure Miss Kerfoot!

Remember to get your Nativity tickets next week from the school office next week.  There should be an order form in our school bags!

Have a good weekend!

Bookbug Bag and Read, Write, Count Bag Gifting event

A big thank you to all the parents who were able to come along on Wednesday afternoon to find out all about the Bookbug Bags (P1) and Read, Write, Count Bags (P2 & P3). We had great fun showing you what is in the bags and know you’ll enjoy sharing the stories at home, as well as playing the games, writing stories and counting. It would be a great idea to keep everything in the bag as your teacher may send home some tasks which you will need the books and games to complete. You can also find more activities to try by going to the Parentclub website: https://www.parentclub.scot/

Our Learning this Week

Another busy week in P1.  This week in our Literacy we learned a new sound with Miss Kerfoot. The sound we learned was ‘g’.  We took part in lots of different activities to help us recognise, write, read and say our new sound.

In Numeracy and maths, we continued to work on our adding skills.  Some of us were able to ‘count on’ instead of having to start counting from 1 each time.  We played games on the laptops to help us with our adding.  We have also been doing a lot of work on using ten-frames.  We are learning ho to show different amounts on a ten frame.  Ask us about it! We reinforced our knowledge of 2D shape with Miss Adam before we start learning about 3D shapes next week.

We learned about anti-bullying and could share our ideas about how we can be a good friend to other.  We also enjoyed a trip to the cinema on Thursday.  There was great excitement as we got on the bus and then into the cinema but once the lights went out we all settled down to enjoy the film. Mrs Mackie was super proud of our good behaviour.

Our nativity show is coming along well and we know almost all of the songs now.  We hope you can come along on the day.

Have a good weekend.
