P5 this week

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who took time to come to our assembly. I’m sure you will agree they sang beautifully and spoke confidently.

This week apart form practicing for our assembly we also:

  • Looked at the artist Andy Wahrol  and created our own rainforest pop art.
  • Did  guided reading on deforestation and its impact.
  • We got stuck in the rainforest and had to write a message in a bottle.
  • A big thank you for the excellent level of homework completed. The children showcased their plant / animal fact files through the use of flyers and power points.

P5 this week.

  • We had a very interesting discussion on deforestation this week and the effect it has on the world.
  • P5 was shocked to see how many household products contained palm oil.
  • As part of our BIG write this week we wrote letters to loggers and explained our feelings on deforestation.
  • The children had the opportunity to share their Rainforest animal fact files through the use of Power Point. Pretty impressive!
  • P5 has worked incredibly hard on drawing Toucans – we looked at line and shape. They look amazing.

P5 news

P5 worked hard to complete their rainforest animal fact files through using power point.

We did some exciting number talks this week and worked on doubles and addition.

We welcomed a new friend to our class. We hope that Ahtasham has many happy memories with P5.

P5 found this weeks big write a bit tricky. Not always that easy to write about your best friend. However everyone tried their best and P5 has some very special friends.

We looked at using line and shape when drawing animals for our fact files.

The boys and girls did some fantastic work creating their own grid references and we are eager to hear what P5/6 think once they have completed our questions.

P5

What a great week working with Rookie Rockstars! I am very proud to say that P5 showed fantastic participation and behavior during these sessions. Remember the show is next Thursday evening at 6:30pm.

P5 worked with Mrs Stewart this week on number talks – this helps the children develop and discuss different strategies when working with numbers.

We explored food chains during our topic and found it very interesting to see that when you remove one part of the food chain it effects the entire rest of the chain.

In PE we worked on our lower body and leg muscles through a group called fresh start. The children participated enthusiastically and gave it 100% – Mrs Sneddon is still a bit sore.

P5 news

This week we have started on our topic – Rain forests. We familiarized ourselves with atlases and  found the Rain forests.

We explored the different levels of the Rainforest and even designed our own new specie of animal to live in the Rainforest.

In PE we are looking at the skills involved in the game volleyball and we have discussed what happens to our bodies when we exercise.

We are finishing off with place value and will be moving on to addition in numeracy and have been working on grid referencing in math using a compass.

This week in P5

We have been working hard on our fabulous cursive handwriting – Mrs Sneddon says we are doing great!!

In numeracy we have been working with place value and looked at ten thousands, hundred thousands and challenged ourselves to try millions.

We worked on partitioning numbers – that means how are they put together – 1234 = 1000 + 200+30+4

Great excitement as we have finished our first piece of big writing. Our focus was on using punctuation appropriately.

Celebrating Awesome homework

A very BIG THANK YOU to all the children (and parents) in P5 who completed the homework challenge. The standard was exceptional and the children were so proud to showcase this to their peers but also some very curious visitors (pupils and teachers) from other classes. We had some very inventive ways of using recyclable materials demonstrated in most of the projects.
