Sky’s the limit!
We had the most amazing morning at Sky’s brand new Skills Academy in Livingston this morning. The children were greeted by smiley, enthusiastic staff who stayed with us all morning and who played such a huge part in making this an experience which the children will never forget.
The visit started with a quick, introductory talk and the children had a tour around the Sky Call Centre, where they found out about the wide range of services offered by Sky.
From there, we went over to the studios and watched 4 short clips in the Sky cinema where we found out about how much work it takes to put together a programme.
Next, we watched a message from Ashley Banjo!
Finally, we set off into our studios to begin to put together our “SKY documentary” about Social Networking. It was so exciting, learning about how to use the “green screen”, working with the camera, the autocue, choosing costumes and rehearsing.
The morning flew by and before we knew it, we were heading back to the bus. If you are lucky, you may get a chance to see our report in an assembly!
We would like to say a HUGE “Thank you” to the staff at SKY who looked after us so well this morning and a special thanks to Sharifa Hawari at National Schools Partnership for making it all possible.
Schools who want to make a booking can look at the Sky Skills Academy, Livingston website. The best school trip we’ve had…ever!
Thank you!

Preparing for a visit to Sky Skills Academy in Livingston
A group of Murrayfield pupils has been extremely fortunate to be offered the opportunity to visit Sky Skills Academy in Livingston tomorrow morning. 16 Primary 5 pupils have been working in small teams in preparation for the visit. They are all very excited and are looking forward to being able to tell you all about their exciting adventure when they get back.

We are very proud of you.
Great achievement for Emma!
Congratulations to Emma Parker in P6, who has made us very proud by winning a bronze medal at the Scottish Schools Swimming Association’s Swimming Championship in Aberdeen today, 31.1.2015.
Very well done Emma! We are really looking forward to hearing all about your adventure in Aberdeen and seeing your medal at school on Monday!
Murrayfield Remembers Christmas 1914
The Football Council at Murrayfield Primary School, led by their Captain, Cameron Stewart P7, held a series of friendly football matches between boys and girls from P6 and P7 on Friday 12th December.
The British Council, FA, Football League and Premier League invited all schools, football clubs and academies, fans and avid young historians to join the British Council and all of football in a mass-participation event to commemorate the Christmas Truce of 1914.
Although our original plans to play the games outside this week had to change due to the weather, the indoor matches were great and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Well done everyone and a huge thank you to Ms Preston for supporting the children!
Another busy week in P5/4
Hi again,
We have had a busy week, learning all about Great Britain. We have been learning how to use timetables to travel around Britain and finding out why this will be a very useful skill for us as we grow up. We tried to estimate how long different lengths of time actually were. Not always easy to do!
As part of our topic, we looked at how the Government encouraged immigration into Britain to help increase our workforce after the Second World War and we learned about the diversity of the different races of people who make up Great Britain. Lenny reminded us that it made us think about our “Moral Code” and how we need to work together and get on.
We’ve worked hard in literacy. We’re enjoying the genre of our new reading books about myths and legends. In our comprehension tasks, we’ve been thinking hard about unfamiliar vocabulary and expressions and trying to work out their meanings using clues from the stories.
On Friday, we learned a German song which we hope to perform to you at the European Day of Languages Assembly on 26th September.
Thanks to Laura for starting to type up our Blog this week and to everyone for sharing their learning.
Have a great holiday weekend!

We are always interested in what you are doing and would love to share your successes with the wider school community! We have a lot of talented children in our school and a lot of talented parents and carers who support them. Thanks!
Hall of Fame – Emma Parker, P6
We were delighted to hear about Emma Parker’s fantastic achievement at a swim meet at the end of August. Emma, one of our P6 pupils who swims for Whitburn’s Trojan Swimming Club, won an incredible 6 Gold medals and 2 Silvers and achieved a personal best in her swimming time. Congratulations Emma! We are all very proud of you and can’t wait until the next Commonwealth Games…
