Switch the television off,put the kettle on ,make a cuppa and settle down to have a chat with your child. Here are some ideas to get you started chatting. 

In certain extreme circumstances the Language Centre could be closed while other schools in the authority are open. In this situation you will be contacted directly by a member of the Language Centre staff. However if all schools in West Lothian are closed we will also be closed.

The children have been investigating with paint and discovered that if you mix all the colours together it becomes brown. They made a pumpkin lantern for Halloween.

We have been learning new vocabulary related to houses and homes. In P2/3 we have used our imaginations to design our own fantasy houses. We then talked about what we would have in the houses, what imagination the children have. In p1 the children were learning about the vocabulary related to the inside of their house.

Today we were out in the local area looking at different house styles, including flats, detached, semi detached and terraced. We discussed the different vocabulary that can be used for post boxes, bus stops and street signs. We practiced  our Green cross code by listening and looking carefully for traffic.

When we returned we used google earth to look at the children’s own houses and they used the vocabulary to describe their own house

ELECTIONS The Language Centre will be closed on Thursday 5th May and Thursday 23rd June due to Government Elections. The school will be used a polling station on both occasions.

TRANSITIONS

The P3 children will begin the  transition process on the 18th April 2016. After that date they will attend their main stream class all day on a Thursday. They will attend the language centre on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as usual.

Welcome back everyone. This is going to be a very busy term!

On Wednesday 13th April 2016 the children in the primary classes will be visiting the Almond Valley Heritage Trust- Mill Farm. When we are there the children will be learning;

• The names of farm animals and their young,
• The names of farm buildings.
• The names of the tools and equipment that are used on a farm.
• The type of food farm animals eat.
• What the farmer has to do to keep the animals clean and safe.

Parents and carers please remember that we will be outside for most of the afternoon and if this morning is anything to go by it could possibly be quite chilly, so warm waterproof coat, hat gloves and possibly welly boots!

Work is almost completed on improving the Language Centre  outdoor area. The children now have access to a range of outdoor learning experiences including their very own ‘Vowel House’ The children will benefit from learning in the outdoors including opportunities to develop a variety of skills.         

Welcome back we hope that you had a great holiday. Last term was a very busy term in the language centre. Through various topic activities the children were learning-

• new vocabulary.
• listening and talking skills.
• strategies to help organise and sequence ideas.
• phonics- how to use what they know about sounds to help them read and write words.

Working with the speech and language therapists the children experiences opportunities to develop their conversational skills.
