Our Learning this Week

Another busy week in P1.  This week in our Literacy we learned a new sound with Miss Kerfoot. The sound we learned was ‘g’.  We took part in lots of different activities to help us recognise, write, read and say our new sound.

In Numeracy and maths, we continued to work on our adding skills.  Some of us were able to ‘count on’ instead of having to start counting from 1 each time.  We played games on the laptops to help us with our adding.  We have also been doing a lot of work on using ten-frames.  We are learning ho to show different amounts on a ten frame.  Ask us about it! We reinforced our knowledge of 2D shape with Miss Adam before we start learning about 3D shapes next week.

We learned about anti-bullying and could share our ideas about how we can be a good friend to other.  We also enjoyed a trip to the cinema on Thursday.  There was great excitement as we got on the bus and then into the cinema but once the lights went out we all settled down to enjoy the film. Mrs Mackie was super proud of our good behaviour.

Our nativity show is coming along well and we know almost all of the songs now.  We hope you can come along on the day.

Have a good weekend.

Primary 1

Cinema Trip

A few parents have asked about snack for the cinema trip on Thursday. I would suggest just giving what you would normally just give for snack in school.  Something that is easy to open and not in a plastic tub which could accidentally be left behind.  Also, too much snack and they might be ill on the bus journey back!  :o)

Lots of learning in P1

As always, it has been a busy week in P1 with lots of learning going on.

This week in Literacy we have learned the ‘b’ and the ‘h’ sounds.  We have been taking part in lots of activities to help us recognise, say, read and write the sounds.  We have even been blending them with other sounds to read words.

We wrote invites to our grown ups asking them to come along to our nativity ‘The Sleepy Shepherd’ on Wednesday 12th December.  We have been working hard on learning our nativity songs and would love to share them with you. Tickets will be on sale soon from the school office (we even designed the tickets – how talented are we?).

In Numeracy this week we have been revising missing numbers on number lines  as well as developing our skills in  counting and addition.

We also learned about firework safety and the things we can do to keep ourselves and others safe while having fun.  We designed posters to help others learn the firework safety code.  We each chose a rule and then had to draw a picture which gave a clear message of how to stay safe.

Afterwards, we wrote an acrostic poem together then we painted firework pictures without using paintbrushes or even our hands!

We also learned about the Hindu festival of Diwali and how millions of people celebrate it.  We listened to a Diwali story about Rama and Sita and even made our own Diwali lamps.

We are looking forward to lots more learning next week.  Have a good weekend!

A busy week in P1

We can’t believe how quickly the time is passing in P1.  It must be because we are always so busy!

This week we went along to the French cafe in P5 with Mrs Craig.  We tried lots of different French food.  Some we loved but others we weren’t too sure about!

We have also been working hard on our literacy skills and have been sliding the sounds we can heard together to make words.  We had to listen carefully and decide whether the sounds came at the start, the middle or the end of the word.We have also been playing games which help us to recognise and remember the different sounds we have been learning.

In numeracy we have been working on recognising and using numbers 7,8,9 and 10 .  We looked for the numbers within a mix of lots of different numbers, did lots of counting to 10 and back to 0 again, made the numerals from play-doh and wrote the numbers. We even made number 8 spiders because a spider has 8 legs!

Next week we will be looking for evidence that Autumn has arrived, finding out about our sense of touch and revising all of our sounds and numbers that we have been learning about.

Plan, Play and Review in P1

Today in Plan, Play and Review we have been very busy  trying out our new activities.  Our choices this week are:

Loose parts play with pasta shapes – what pictures can you make?

Build a road for a car to travel down or a path for a person to walk along.

Playing a game about our emotions.

Using our sense of taste and investigating different tastes.  What one tasted sour?

Painting our faces (don’t worry not our real faces) to show our emotions.  Ask us about the different colours we used for our emotions?

Food! Glorious food!

Today we have been learning about healthy food.

We had to say what we could have for a healthy dinner then we had to design a meal!  We drew broccoli, tomatoes, chicken, beef, potatoes and lots of other food which is healthy.

We also made chicken and ham wraps for our picnic tomorrow.  We spoke about the different things we need to do before preparing food such as washing our hands, tying back long hair and keeping our hands away from our mouths (and noses!).

We learned how to spread butter using a knife and how to safely cut our wraps into smaller pieces.

We have stored them in the fridge to keep fresh for tomorrow and  are looking forward to eating them all.

Futsal!

Today, as part of our Health and Wellbeing focus, we took part in Futsal with Scot the coach.  To get our bodies ready for exercise we had to warm up.  This was a massive game of ‘tig’.  If we got caught by a chaser we had to sit down but when Scot shouted ‘jailbreak’ we were able to run and join in again!  It was good fun.

Then Scot split us up into different groups and we played mini games.  There were a lot of goals being scored.  We played against each other in teams.

We all agreed that it was great fun!

P2/1 are chilled out!

Today, we took part in ‘Relax Kids’ with Sharon.  She took us through 7 steps to help us relax and feel chilled out.  The 7 steps were:

  1. Move – to get our bodies warmed up.
  2. Play –  we played a game to help us get ready
  3. Stretch – this helps up to be more flexible.
  4. Feel – we massaged a partner (with their permission) or on our own bodies. Massage helps us to recognise kindness, empathy, positive touch.
  5. Breathe – to help us have clear minds so that we can relax. We used a feather to help us control our breathing.
  6. Believe – we spoke about one thing that we love and this helped us to feel confident and happy.
  7. Relax – we lay quietly under a cosy blanket and listened to a relaxing meditation story.

It was great fun and many of us enjoyed the relax step the best.

Some of us enjoyed it so much that we almost fell asleep!

Health Focus!

This week we are having a big focus on keeping healthy.

Yesterday the Fire Service came out to visit.  We got to look around the fire engine and speak to the fire fighters.

We enjoyed a bit of golf in the afternoon!  It was good fun!

Today,  we took part in the P7 Soccer Aid football challenge.  It was great fun and we all enjoyed it.  Thank you to P7 for organising it!

Last but not least, a big ‘well done’ to David who won our Healthy Homework challenge!

Keep checking back for more photos during our Health focus weeks.

P2/1

Healthy and Eco week in P2/1

What a busy week in P2/1!

We have had a big focus on health and Eco this week as well as all of the other learning we do each each day.  In health we have been learning how to keep ourselves healthy by being active, eating or drinking 5 portions of fruit/veg each day, drinking enough each day and finding out why breakfast is so important to start the day.

We looked at how much sugar were in drinks and were surprised by what we found out!

We also took part in the Daily Mile each day and lots of Go Noodle during the day to keep us moving about!

We have also been learning about recycling.  We had to match up the different things that people throw out to the different recycling bins.  We looked at pictures of what might happen to our planet if we don’t recycle.  It was sad.

We took part in a recycling fashion show. We worked together in teams to make a costume for two of our classmates and Mrs Mackie!

Next week we will be taking part in lots of different activities which can help to keep us fit and healthy, including Golf, Soccer Aid (remember your donations) and Relax Kids!

Keep checking for more updates on our learning!
