A huge big thank you to our small but very dedicated team of pupils, parents and staff who have helped to design, draw and paint backdrops, characters and signs for our Gala float and to those who were able to lend a hand to decorate the float this afternoon. Approximately 4 1/2 hours later we finished up and we think the float looks great, we hope you will all agree! We are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in the morning for the crowning ceremony and then for the parade. Until then, here’s a little sneaky peek at our float…

Gala Weekend Has Arrived!
Just a quick reminder to everyone that you are more than welcome to come along and walk with the school and nursery pupils during the gala parade. We usually start walking at around 11:00am straight after the crowning ceremony. We will be directed on the morning to our positions, however look out for Murrayfield’s 1980’s float which will be positioned near the Community Centre.
We look forward to seeing you there…and hope the sun makes an appearance too!!
P6 Assembly Date
Just a quick reminder that Miss Moir’s P6 class
will be holding their assembly on
Friday 24th June.
We hope you are free to come along.
P6 and P7 NSPCC Assembly and Workshops
Dear Parent/ Carer,
ChildLine Schools Service will be holding an assembly and follow up workshops on Tuesday 14th June for all P6 and P7 pupils, with a specific focus on ‘Keeping Safe.’ Parents/ Carers have the choice whether they would like their child to attend these sessions or not and can contact the office or complete the tear off slip attached to the letter if they do not wish for their child to take part. (P7 Bathgate Academy Transition pupils will bring their letters home on Monday)
I have attached links to a Parent Question and Answer document and also a copy of the letter sent home to provide you with more details regarding this service and the content of the assembly and workshops.
Please do not hesitate to contact the office for more details or if you have any additional questions.

Bathgate Academy Transition – Sports Festival (Thursday 9th June)
Hi All,
I have had a couple of parents asking about whether or not the children are required to wear their school uniform or their gym kits for tomorrow’s sports festival. I have checked the documents that were provided by the academy and the letter states that they should wear their school uniform, except on Thursday when they should wear their gym kit for the festival. Hope this helps.

P7 Bathgate Transition – Update
Just a little reminder that our P7 pupils joining Bathgate Academy, after the Summer holidays, have their transition days on Tuesday 7th June – Friday 10th June. Staff from Murrayfield will attend the academy on Tuesday morning and then again on Thursday as part of the sports festival.
Pupils are required to make their own way to the academy using either West Lothian Council school transport or alternative arrangements. Bus passes will be handed out on Monday and it is the responsibility of the pupils to keep these safe so that they can be used to get to and from Bathgate Academy.
Originally these bus passes were only designed to cover 3 days, however there has been a slight change and the bus passes will now be valid on the Friday too. The dates on the passes state Tuesday 7th – Thursday 9th only, but we have been told that these are now valid for the Friday too and the bus drivers have been informed of this change.
If West Lothian Council currently provide a taxi to transport your child to school then arrangements will be made for them to be taken to and picked up from the academy.
Your child should have received all other necessary information regarding these transition days and can discuss any questons or queries they have with their teachers tomorrow.

Gala Float Committee Update
Gala Day Theme: The 80’s
Float Theme: Ghostbusters
We had our initial planning meeting at school on Tuesday 24th May and have agreed on ‘Ghostbusters’ as the theme for the float as this is an iconic 80’s film and it will allow us to start planning out the design of the float.
There are a small group of parents/ carers who have already volunteered their skills/ time for this and if anyone else would like to support this group please speak to a member of staff at school/ nursery or speak to Amanda Lumsden, our Chair of the Parent Council.
Some eager volunteers have already made a start on some of the designs for the float, e.g. a skyline backdrop and the Ectomobile/ Ecto–1 (vehicle used by the Ghostbusters team)
However, we still require a great deal of themed decorations to be drawn and painted to ensure that the whole float is decorated and ready for the procession. You don’t need to be an amazing artist to lend a hand! When we decorated the school 2 years ago, there was a team of people who were very artistic and who were able to draw out several designs which were then returned to school for other parents/ carers to take away and paint.
We are looking for some volunteers who might be able to draw some characters, such as the Ghostbusters team or some ghosts to decorate the float and also some people who are willing to paint these. We are also looking for any donations of left over/ spare paint that people may have in their homes and no longer require. There are large pieces of card available from the school that can be taken away to have designs drawn onto or painted. If you can help with any of the above then we would be very grateful.
There will be another meeting on Wednesday 1st June at 1:30pm to bring together some ideas and discuss progress to date. All are welcome to come along to this meeting to see how they can lend a hand.
Thank you in advance, we hope to see a number of you at the next meeting.
Gala Float Decorating Committee
Gala Day 2016 – Float Decoration Committee
Murrayfield Gala Theme: The 1980s
We have been given the use of a float for this year’s gala day and are looking for a team of people to help with the planning, design and decoration of this. Thank you to everyone who has already offered to lend a hand and given their contact details to the Parent Council, someone will be in touch very soon with possible meeting dates.
If you would like to join this committee and help with the float design and decoration please contact the school office or complete the form which will be sent home with pupils tomorrow.
