PE

Hello boys and girls, I hope you are all having a nice week. Hopefully you are all managing to get outside and stay active in this glorious sunshine. This week I thought we would have fun with a bit of dance. You will see there are two dance tasks. It would be great if you could take part in both at some point. They are both very different but equally as fun. Enjoy!!

P.E Lesson – 7.5.20

LI: I am developing skills and techniques and improving my level of performance.

SC: I can move with purpose demonstrating balance, control and rhythm.

1. French Disco HWB 1-21a (co-ordination and fluency)

A great video resource that can be located via Youtube, ‘5-a-day’ encourages movement and actions to music with a keep fit approach to its content. This activity blends PE skills with French vocabulary. A fun and active way to consolidate and learn some new French words and phrases. Find it at –

2. Dance Class (E&O – HWB 1-21a – Rhythm & Timing)

Use the ‘Just Dance’ video to lead you through a series of dance moves to the ‘Kung Fu Fighting’ song. Each successful moves earns you points. Try to keep up with the dancer and practice to see if you can complete the dance without making mistakes – a BIG challenge! I would recommend watching the video first. ‘Kung Fu Fighting’ for Just Dance can be found at

Have fun and enjoy dancing

#saveourseas

P5 have been engaged in their learning this term through their save our seas IDL this term. Their favourite tasks so far have been creating seascape textured art, exploring a range of different media to create an image. They also learned about the angers of plastic pollution and demonstrated this by adding plastic to sea-creatures. Although P5 enjoyed creating the art work, we discussed how moving the finished product made them feel.

They have also created a “Tweet wall” after finding out that you have to return single use cups to coffee shops to be successfully recycled. They are extremely passionate about this and we plan to send a class tweet to a coffee shop.. watch this space!

P1 Descriptive Writing

Primary one have been working hard over this term to learn about the 7 different describing bubbles (colour, shape, number, position, texture, doing and size), using our new whole school writing resources.

We have been using and choosing different bubbles to help us describe ourselves, our class mates and different objects.

Last week we went outside to explore and describe autumn trees, focusing on texture.

This week, we focused on shape and applied what we have learned so far to describe our class T-Rex, who appeared in our class with a mysterious egg!

Ready, Steady, Cook with P4

Primary 4 have had a busy term so far and have loved learning all about the journey of food through their Field to Fork IDL Context. The highlight of our IDL has to be our class visit from Jennifer from Scotch Kitchen. We were able to share our learning with Jennifer and also cook Moroccan Spiced Lamb with new and familiar ingredients. The food was delicious and some of us even had second and third helpings!

Outdoor Art with P7/6

This term, P7/6 have enjoyed creating artwork inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. We spent time researching and discussing the shapes, colours and materials that he uses in his work. We then spent time in the school grounds looking at the resources available to us. We planned how we might use natural materials to incorporate art techniques such as blending colour. Thinking about the seasons, we were able to layer autumnal colours to great effect. The children were very proud of their efforts. Here are the results:

Edinburgh International Festival Fireworks Competition for P1-3 and P4-7

Look out for our Big Art efforts on the Mid Calder Gala Day float. Fairies, elves and trolls aplenty:-))

Perfect Planting Promotion Challenge

As part of their Rainforest IDL, Primary 3 have been learning all about what plants need to grow and survive. As P1, P2/1 and P2 are going to be learning about ‘In the Garden’ this term, we were challenged to share our knowledge with them by creating a tutorial video about how to plant a plant.

We had to script, film, direct and edit our tutorials, using our digital skills to help us to add background music, transitions and sound effects when filming was complete. Check out our amazing videos!

Pirano Tribe:

We shared our tutorials with P1, P2/1 and P2 and then wrote invitations to ask them to come and help us to plant the plants that our tribe have been growing and nurturing for the last 2 months. Both Primary 3 and Primary 1-2 loved planing the plants and we can’t wait to see how well they continue to grow in their new home in our playground.
