Good morning P2/3!

Good morning everyone and welcome back to a new term. I hope you were all able to have some time out to have lots of fun over the last few weeks!

Although we are not together in our classroom, we are going to continue our learning but just in a different way. Each day I will upload some activities for you. You can try some of them or all of them. It’s important to remember that all you can do is try your best so don’t worry if you can’t do everything, you are all doing great just by giving this new way of learning a go!

Week 1 Monday.docx

Hello Primary 1-3 😊

Good afternoon boys and girls,

Well done for getting through your first week of Home Learning! We hope you have been able to spend time with your family and have a go at some of the tasks in your home learning pack. Please remember to take time off from school work and have fun over the weekend!

Next week, you can continue to complete tasks from your home learning pack. After the Easter Holidays your teacher will start to post work on the blog for you. We will provide more information about this when we upload the first post.

In the meantime here are some useful websites to explore next week if you complete most of the home learning tasks and are looking for extra activities!

Primary 2/3 become pyramid builders!

Primary 2/3 have loved learning about how and why the pyramids were built as part of our Ancient Egypt IDL. The children had the opportunity to build pyramid using different resources. We had to think carefully when we were building to make sure that each layer was smaller than the one before. This helped to create out pyramid shapes!

Primary 4 visit Jupiter Art Land!

Primary 4 enjoyed their recent visit to Jupiter Art Land. They looked at different sculptures that used both natural and man made materials before having the opportunity to create their own interpretation of Charles Jencks sculpture ‘Cells of Life’. Thanks to Ms Brolls for organising a fantastic trip!

Primary 4 get dividing!

This week Primary 4 have been exploring different strategies for division. We looked at using concrete materials such as cubes and counters to explore arrays, equal groups and repeated subtraction. We then  began to draw pictorial representations on our whiteboards.

We have also been looking at the inverse rule to help us understand the links between division and multiplication.

Have a look at division in action!

Primary 4 learn about gender stereotypes

Through our topic ‘Extraordinary Humans’, the boys and girls have been finding out about people who have overcame obstacles in their lives to become successful.

This week we learned about gender stereotypes and explored the different ways that people can face obstacles in their life simply because they are a boy or a girl. When people use gender stereotypes, they make assumptions about people because of their gender.

The boys and girls believe that a gender stereotype is not a good thing because it encourages us to believe that boys can do things that girls can’t and girls can do things that boys can’t. We decided to make posters to show the different things that boys and girls can do regardless of their gender stereotype.

We were also lucky enough to have a visit from a female footballer this week. Miss Walkingshaw talked about the obstacles she faced as a female footballer and how she overcame those obstacles by not giving up. She gave a positive message to the that children you shouldn’t let gender stereotypes stop you from being who you want to be! Check out our football squad!
