Terrific Transitions from Primary P4a

This week we have been incredibly busy making transition videos and presentations for Primary 3. We explained what to expect in 5 main areas including Mathematics, Literacy, IDL, Health and Wellbeing and Routines. Each group presented information about what they have learned during the year and expectations in Primary 4. We put a lot of effort to make sure our presentations were clear and they included key examples from each area. We gave some demonstrations about where to line up in our houses, where to find lunchtime information and the different times that our routines take place. Additionally, we gave a demonstration in Number Talks and explained that there is higher expectations across all areas of the curriculum. Well Done Primary 4a for all your fantastic effort for making a really successful presentation.

P2/3 Presentation to P1 About Life in P2

P2/3 presented to P1 telling them about life in P2.
Their learning intentions were:
• We are learning to help encourage learning and confidence in others.

• We are learning to recognise our skills and abilities, and discuss our learning.

• We are learning to support others in preparing for their next stage at school.

Their successful presentation included:
• Expectations of P3 pupils such as showing respect to others.

• Learning experiences within Maths, Languages and Health and Wellbeing

• IDL Contexts and trips to Jupiter Artland and The National Gallery, The Zoo and the Into Film Festival, local woods and a fun beach outing with ice-cream!

• Routines for your area

• Specific experiences from Primary 3 such as the Biketasic design challenge and learning bike skills and 2 hours of P.E. which included Fitkid circuit training and doing lots of burpees. Cara and Nathan even demonstrated a few of the exercises.

Charlie asked if it was a lot more work and Miss Brolls assured them that it was a wee bit harder but achievable and they would be making lots of new friends as the two P1s were coming together.

Life in Primary 4 by P4B

This week P4B have been working as a class to create a video to share with the Primary 3 pupils as part of a transition challenge.

LI: We are learning to encourage learning and confidence in others.
We are learning to recognise our skills and abilities, and discuss our learning.
We are learning to support others in preparing for their next stage in school.

In our video, we included information about routines, expectations, learning and our experiences from Primary 4. We loved writing our own scripts and filming our video clips. We then invited the P3 Pupils to watch our video and they gave us super feedback.

West Calder High School

On Tuesday the primary 7 s went up to West Calder High School as part of the to  ‘Big Get Together’. Several other schools went to the event including all of our cluster schools and some S1’s, who previously came to Mid Calder, were also there. While we were there we got taught some social dances including The Dashing White Sergeant, The Virginia Reel and The Heel and Toe Polka. First we danced to traditional music which was quite easy then we changed to some modern music which was a bit confusing. We had a snack of crisps and a drink of juice as we were so exhausted after all our dancing. Afterwards we went back to the hall and  played a series of games which were corners ,best dancer, musical statues and the Macarena. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we look forward to going up to high school for transition and seeing some of our other  old and new friends.
