P1P Class Charter

During the first two weeks, Primary 1 have been looking at the story of the Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. This story is all about being kind and friendly to others through sharing. We thought this linked well to our own classroom expectations and some of our School Values.

Through various activities we have explored the Rainbow Fish further and have also shared our thoughts and ideas on our school’s values. We used these brilliant ideas to create a Rainbow Fish themed Class Charter that also linked to the UN Rights of the Child.

Each bubble contains something that we think is important for us in and around the classroom and each shell contains one of our school values. We have all signed a scale on the Rainbow Fish to remind ourselves that we have agreed to our Class Charter and will use this throughout Primary 1. Brilliant work Primary 1!

Life in Primary 4 by P4B

This week P4B have been working as a class to create a video to share with the Primary 3 pupils as part of a transition challenge.

LI: We are learning to encourage learning and confidence in others.
We are learning to recognise our skills and abilities, and discuss our learning.
We are learning to support others in preparing for their next stage in school.

In our video, we included information about routines, expectations, learning and our experiences from Primary 4. We loved writing our own scripts and filming our video clips. We then invited the P3 Pupils to watch our video and they gave us super feedback.

P4B’s Terrific Tiling

In maths this week, P4b have been developing their understanding of tiling and tessellation.
We have taken part in a range of practical, written and digital activities to explore how different shapes fit together to make different tiling patterns.
In class, we used digital technologies to research tiling in a real life context and to create a Word document showing different examples of tiling patterns. We were also able to explore how different 2D shapes fit together using our class SMARTboard and different tiling games.

As it is Education Scotland’s National Digital Learning Week, P4b have continued to use digital technologies to enhance and support their learning across the curriculum.

In technologies we have continued to develop our knowledge and understanding of the language of programming.

In literacy we have used online search engines to research letters of invitation and have also used Sumdog to develop our reading skills.

The Technical Troopers also came to P4B to lead a lesson on the Forms glow tool. This is a fantastic tool that the children have loved learning about. Some pupils have even made their own Forms Quiz at home since having this lesson.

Global Road Safety Week – Poster Competition

Last week in our JRSO Junior Leadership Team, we entered the Global Road Safety Week Poster Competition. This poster had to highlight the dangers of speeding as well as being eye-catching and colourful. The results were released today, and out of 616 children in the whole of Scotland that entered, Kaylie Preston in P4B was awarded runner up!

Congratulations Kaylie and the rest of our JRSOs for their fantastic entries!

Clever Coding with P4B

LI: We are learning about the language of programming
SC: I understand programming  instructions
I can predict the outcome of a code
I can use code to solve a programming problem.

In class we have been developing our knowledge and understanding of the language of programming. We have been using the Hour of Code Initiative to explore programming in familiar contexts such as Moana, Minecraft, Frozen and Star Wars. We have loved challenging ourselves with different programming problems and are looking forward to exploring coding further.

Space Exploration with P4B

This week P4B have been working in their space teams to investigate space travel from specific key dates. We have used our research to start creating a timeline of space travel in the form of a whole class sway and a class timeline book. During this activity we have developed our research, team work and digital technology skills.
We can’t wait to complete our timeline Sway and book after the Easter Holidays.

P4b’s Super STEM Challenges!

This week, P4b have taken part in a range of exciting STEM activities that has developed our understanding and knowledge of our solar system. We worked together in our space teams to experiment with a range of materials and used a range maths skills.
We created galaxy jars, marshmallow constellations, balloon rockets and moon craters. On Thursday we were able to share what we had learned with our relatives and parents and the STEM Open Afternoon.

‘It was fun and exciting to teach our parents how to do different experiments’ Daisy
‘I really enjoyed seeing our parents around the classroom’ Megan

P4b’s Space-tacular Assembly!

Well done to Primary 4B for a FANTASTIC assembly today all about their Project Planetarium STEM IDL Context. We have learned so much about the planets and the moon in our space missions so far and cant wait to find out what is next!
Thank you to all parents and carers who managed to attend. The children enjoyed preparing, practicing and presenting their assembly! Here are some pictures from the assembly and a link to the prezi presentation for any parents and carers who couldn’t attend and for the pupils to watch again!

Primary 4 STEM Context: Project Planetarium

P4 are focusing on Project Planetarium for our STEM topic.
Here are our key questions…
1. How do the sun and moon affect the length of the day, month, year and seasons?
2. What does the solar system look like?
3. What are the features of the different planets?
4. How and why do people become astronauts?
5. How have spacecrafts changed over time and what are their features?

Our context will develop our knowledge and skills in the key curricular areas of:
Science: Safely observing and recording the sun and moon and describe their patterns of movement/changes, observing and researching features of the solar system.
Maths: Collation of data, displaying data and scale.
Technologies: Technological advances over time and using and accessing information.

Ms Richmond, Primary 4 and I are excited to discover more about our solar system!

P4b are Masterchefs!

LI: We are learning to cook a healthy meal.
SC: I can stay safe when preparing food.
I can prepare a healthy meal using different ingredients.
I am developing my cooking skills.

In P4B yesterday, we worked together to safely prepare a healthy meal of lentil soup using the school’s mobile kitchen unit, it was lots of fun and tasted DELICIOUS!

Ingredients:
– 230g of red lentils
– 4 large onions
– 500g of carrots
– 6 pints of ham stock
– salt and pepper
