Pop Up Dinos

This week P2/1 were inspired by two of our favourite things – pop up books and dinosaurs! Children made hatching dinosaur puppets inspired by Rob Biddulph, and learned how to make their cute creations move by selecting the right parts of the model to stick together, leaving other areas free to move. It was a very fiddly job that helped strengthen little hands, but the children agreed it was well worth the effort.

World Flags

P3/2 have finished off their Scotland topic just in time to move onto a new mini topic focusing on the World Cup. We began by looking at all the world flags and used our knowledge and research skills to label each flag. Miss Smith was super impressed by our knowledge of flags. Next lesson we are going to arrange them into their continents before looking at different cultures and of course football. We are so excited about this topic!

PE in P3/2 and P4

This week P4 and P3/2 took advantage of the sunshine and took our PE outside! The pupils created obstacle courses for each other to run through practising the skills we have been working on, running, hurdles, throwing and balance. The pupils used their communication and collaboration skills to work in groups to create obstacle courses.

Coming back down to Earth!

P2/1 are wrapping up our learning about Space, which has been a very exciting journey! Children have built rocket ships and control centres indoors and out, have created galaxy jars and splatter paint universes, and have answered lots of interesting questions such as ‘how are rockets made?’ and ‘what makes the moon shine?’

They have created a solar system model with logs and paint, and explored beyond our galaxy in PE games! The creative ideas, knowledge and enthusiasm shared has really been out of this world!

Buddy Collaboration

P2/1 and P7/6 have been enjoying working together. This offers younger learners support and guidance in their learning and gives older children the experience of being role models and holding responsibility. It is also a valuable social experience for all, with many lovely relationships having developed throughout the year.

P7/6 were great examples of being responsible citizens, helping to give the garden a spring tidy up and supporting P2/1 with their writing and common words. Once all the hard work was done, everyone had fun with a STEM challenge, making brilliant marble runs and showcasing our Longridge Skills of Collaboration and Critical Thinking, as they worked together to figure out how to bring their design ideas to life.
