Celebration Assembly

It has been a pleasure to have our first Celebration Assembly of the school year and what a talent bunch of learners we have here at Longridge Primary.

First up were our very special Head Teacher Awards, these children were nominated by their class teachers to receive awards and were invited enjoy a hot chocolate with Mr McNaughton & Mrs Murray.

Next we had our wider achievement awards. Thank you to the parents and carers who completed the form to let us know about these wonderful achievements, we had awards for effort and achievement in horse riding, dancing, swimming and football as well as talents in music amongst other amazing achievements!

Next our golden coins were awarded to two learners. Our P6 learner was awarded this for promoting a love for reading and our P2 learner was awarded this for progress in writing! They enjoyed spending their golden on a book of their choice at our vending machine.

Finally our monthly Languagenut Champions were awarded their certificates.

Congratulations to all of our learners on another wonderful week at Longridge Primary and an extra special well done to our award winners!

Learning to Measure in P2/1

P2/1 are learning how to estimate and measure length this week. We’ve been measuring all sorts of things, including superhero footprints, classroom furniture, each other, and even Mrs Carty! P1s showed some brilliant counting skills as they used paper clips, pencils, cubes and their own feet to measure length. P2s learned about metres and centimetres, and searched the classroom for things that are bigger or smaller than a metre. The children showed great collaboration as they helped each other measure their items accurately from end to end, and used “White Hat Thinking” to check that their team-mates had their facts right!

P2/1 enjoy using books and stories to develop their mathematical understanding, sometimes they give us great ideas for new measuring missions!

P7/6 Levenseat Trust project.

P7/6 have been working on designing a ‘maths garden’ as part of our work on the Levenseat award this year. We have drawn some plans and received some great donations that will help us plan some wonderful maths activities to deliver to our friends in the younger classes. We are getting to work on making resources for our garden next week and will be putting those collaboration and communication skills from our toolkit to good use!

Health & Wellbeing in P6/5

P6/5 have been exploring the health and wellbeing indicator ‘Safe’.  We have been looking at how to spot peer pressure and different ways we can stay safe from peer pressure. We used our communication and collaboration skills to work together to create posters sharing information about peer pressure and staying safe. The pupils came up with some great ways to avoid peer pressure including “always be yourself”.

Growing Our Garden

P2/1 continue to enjoy lots of outdoor play and learning in our fabulous garden, recently renovated with huge thanks to the parent council who arranged for artificial grass, play bark and sturdy outdoor tables to be installed in the spring.

Children absolutely love using this area, so they’ve teamed up with P3/2 for a collaborative project to continue developing and improving the outdoor space. We got started this week by clearing out the summer’s debris, and have begun planting in the remaining area to welcome more nature. The children have big ideas and we’re only just getting started – we plan to invite families, neighbours and friends to help with a ‘gardening party’ very soon… watch this space!
