When Nurse Sandra dropped by to do some routine growth checks, P2/1 had lots of questions for her. Happily Sandra had time to chat with children about how she uses literacy and maths in her job every day. Children were very interested in how neatly she wrote the numbers and letters down on record sheets, especially when it helped them to check who was tallest!

The class were also keen to ask about how to make sure they keep growing, and Sandra had some top tips about eating well and getting plenty of sleep. It was lovely to see the children showing our visitor how Respectful and Ready to Learn they can be – they were a great showcase for our school rules.

P6/5 and P7/6 have both been taking part in different activities this week to celebrate Maths Week Scotland. This morning we both took part in an online lesson from Digital Skills Education called ‘Save the Rhino’. We learned about how ‘data sets’ and ‘machine learning’ (a form of AI) has been helping Kruger National Park protect Rhinos. We participated via a mentimeter and even got our own personalised certificate at the end as well as a few shout outs of our thoughts and answers during the lesson.

Children loved meeting the mascot of Maths Week Scotland, who is called Finfinity. We took part in the national challenge “Wild Maths” and took Finfinity out to our garden for some wild maths adventures! Children showed so much creativity by creating stories for their character, and helping him solve problems by counting and measuring. The next day we wrote story books to record the exciting adventures. They were so much fun to read, the children created some very interesting stories set in space, jungles, forests and fairyland!

P3/2 have loved learning outdoors this week. We have had a session with Rob at Kids Gone Wild (see previous post) and we have applied our learning to create shapes using sticks and leaves. We also made fun addition and subtraction games for our partners to solve.

P3/2 enjoyed a session with Kids Gone Wild. They enjoyed using their communication and collaboration skills to build dens and help each other across the rope and get into the hammock. P3/2 had lots of fun exploring the forest.
