Dynamic Earth -Careers in STEM

P7 and P6 visited Dynamic Earth on Wednesday, during British Science Week. We were there to attend a careers showcase where we found out about different jobs involving STEM. We did VR mechanics and welding with Edinburgh college, we used ultrasound to examine what happens inside our mouth when we speak, we learned about nature and different types of rock found in Scotland. We were also lucky enough to have 2 visits to the planetarium where we travelled through the solar system and learned about how scientists photograph distant stars.

Show Racism the Red Card

P7/6 have shown how creative they can be this week with their entries for the ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ schools competition. The competition encourages entrants to spread a positive anti-racism message through a choice of formats. Our entries range from pieces of art, to football boot designs and even songs and musical compositions, all highlighting this important issue in different ways. Well done P7/6 and good luck!

My World of Work

P7/6 had a visit from Ms Baty from the West Lothian Digital Learning Team this week to help us begin profiling our achievements and goals on ‘My World of Work’. We can use this platform through our GLOW accounts to help us keep a record of our achievements in different curricular areas as well as wider achievements we have accomplished outside of school. We aim to add to and update this regularly to build a picture of our skills and targets.

Some braw pop art in P7/6!

P7/6 have been learning about the Pop Art Style. We made links to our learning in literacy about Scots Language and the icon, Oor Wulllie and created some recreations of familiar pop art, with a Scots twist. We also added some of our favourite Scots words in the pop art style. It’s awfy braw!

Science in P7/6

P7/6 were learning about electricity this week and about which materials are conductors and which are insulators. We made predictions and then planned an experiment to test different materials within a circuit to check if the were conductors of electricity or not. We checked this by including them in a circuit with a bulb to check of the bulb would still light. We then wrote up our findings and used our knowledge of circuit symbols to draw a diagram.
