Science in P7/6

P7/6 were learning about electricity this week and about which materials are conductors and which are insulators. We made predictions and then planned an experiment to test different materials within a circuit to check if the were conductors of electricity or not. We checked this by including them in a circuit with a bulb to check of the bulb would still light. We then wrote up our findings and used our knowledge of circuit symbols to draw a diagram.

STEM and Book Week Scotland in P7/6

P7 visited Whitburn Academy this week for a day of STEM learning. We took part in workshops run by different employers who use STEM as part of their jobs. We also celebrated Book Week Scotland. We took part in a Kahoot! to test our book related knowledge, we created our own book covers for our debut novels and watched one of our favourite Scottish Authors Ross MacKenzie, author of the Nowhere Emporium talk about his books on Authors Live.

Circuit building in P7/6

P7/6 were learning about circuits in science this week. We can now identify the symbols that represent all the components in an electrical circuit. We drew our own circuit diagrams using these symbols and were able to identify whether or not the circuits would work based on their components. Most impressively of all we used our critical thinking skills to troubleshoot when things went wrong, identifying the cause of any problems with our circuits and suggesting solutions to fix them.

Remembrance

P7/6 did a wonderful job of leading our Remembrance assembly this morning. They shared their poppy promises and those from all of our other classes on our Remembrance wall. They also shared some artwork, Remembrance poetry and information about the origins of Remembrance Day and why we wear a poppy while wearing their poppies with pride. Our resident piper played after our minute of silence, we are so lucky to have such a talented musician in our school! Thank you very much to those families who came to commemorate the day with us, we really appreciate it.

P7/6 Kids Gone Wild!

P7/6 loved their second outdoor learning session with Rob (and Jax!) from Kids Gone Wild. We developed our independence and problem solving skills when building a zip line and setting up hammocks. We are developing our teamworking skills and showed this when working with a partner in the bouncy net. We are also learning about assessing risk and challenging ourselves in ways we feel comfortable while staying safe.
