P1 and P2/1 Sumdog Challenge – Friday 19th June

Hello everyone,

We are so proud of all the tasks and activities that you guys have been engaging with this week for our zoo trip. This is a little side note about a very exciting sumdog challenge! We have seen sooo many of you engage with sumdog over the past 12 or so weeks! Today is the start of the West Lothian Sumdog Mathematics Contest and it runs until the 25th June!

To be on the leaderboard we need at least 5 children in each of our classes to take part. Pupils are limited to 1000 questions each so this contest really is focused on accuracy rather than number of questions answered – let’s take our time and really think about the questions!

I have attached below some instructions on how to take part! There are 337 classes already signed up to take part so let’s all gt involved and give it our best shot! Let’s see how far we get! Any questions just comment on this post! We hope you have lots of fun,

Miss Duncan and Miss Brown 🙂

P2 19th June

Good morning P2!

I hope you have all had a good week and you have enjoyed learning about bees. Here is your final bee week grid:

Bee week Friday

I can’t wait to see your bee projects! Remember you can share them with me on your Learning Journal or by emailing the school office!

Next week we will be concentrating on health and wellbeing and will be posting different activities on this each day.

Finally, the West Lothian Sumdog contest starts today! Follow these instructions to take part as you need to be playing in the contest section for your questions to count towards your score:

Sumdog instructions 1

Remember, the contest is judged on how accurate you are, not how many questions you answer, so take your time! We need at least 5 people from our class to take part to have a chance of getting onto the leaderboard so please try to join in between now and next Thursday.

Please let me know if you need any help with anything!

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Fleming 🙂

P3/2 – 19th June

Good morning P3/2,

We have reached Friday again and there is lots going on today.

Below is our grid for today.  This is the last day of Bee Week and I have given you some extra bits of information that you might want to add a fun fact section or an interesting information part to your project.  Although this is the last day of Bee Week remember you have until next Friday to finish your project and please ask an adult to either add photos to your learners journal or email them to the school.

Bee week Friday

Today also marks the start of a West Lothian Sumdog competition and we would love to see Kirkhill on the leader board.  Try to log in and play a few games but the competition is about accuracy so think really hard about your answers.  It is not how many questions you answer but how many you answer correctly that counts.  There are instructions for the competition here –Sumdog instructions 1.

Have a fabulous day and weekend everyone.

P3 Learning Activities

Good morning P3,

I hope you are all well and looking forward to Friday’s learning?

Please log on to Sumdog as they are launching a massive school competition. I have posted a link on our numeracy grid which will give you all the information you need to take part. It would be great to see Kirkhill take a spot at the top of the leader board. The competition will run all next week as well but best register today.

I have included another type of art and some artists to explore. Today we are learning about Pointillism. It is a very interesting style of art and you may have seen some of the art before, but never thought about it being created entirely by dots. I hope you have fun with this today and I would love to see your creations.

I have posted Carla’s sandwich again for you to listen to as I know you all loved the story. It might also be fun to ask your family to try to make their own unique sandwich, just like Carla and have an indoor picnic for lunch, as the weather isn’t great today.

Have fun, I hope you enjoy your learning and have a great weekend.

P3 Learning Activities

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all well and ready for more learning today?

We are going to look at changing materials again and I have included a recipe for Gloop.  Gloop is a material which keeps changing and so is a really good experiment to do and explore. I hope you have fun exploring how materials can change.

I have added some a game in our numeracy box which will allow you to practise multiplication and division. I have also kept the worksheets on area  so that you can try another one today. If you tried mild, then try spicy today or if you already went with hot, try the mild one etc.

Learning-Grid-18th June-2020-1

Have fun and have a great day. Thank you to everyone who has still been sending me photos. I received a special letter yesterday which really made me smile, thank you very much Hubert, your letter was much appreciated.

Take care,

Mrs McDonnell

P3/2 – Thursday 18th June

Good morning P3/2,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful week and ready for another super day.

Below is today’s grid. We are continuing with Bee Week but today we are going to find out about one of the main reasons that we are learning about bees.  Not only do they do a really important job but they are also in danger and today we will find out why and how we can all help them.  You can add today’s information into your project or you might want to make a separate poster to explain what is happening and what we can do.  I have also added a recipe today for honey biscuits.  My boys followed the recipe and made these and I can say they were really yummy however they would like me to say that they would add more honey and less cinnamon next time they make them!

Bee week Thursday

Have a lovely day everyone and I can’t wait to see your finished projects.  Just one more day of information to go.
