What a quick week that was!
This week, we were super excited to find out the different parts we would perform in our show. Everyone who completed an audition has been given a role in the show! Children with speaking parts have all now been issued with their lines, which will need to be learned off by heart. All pupils will be on stage at some point in the show, performing songs or routines. We are now beginning to think about costumes and props, which is really fun.
We have had lots of good examples of performances this week, which will help us in our show! On Wednesday, Andy Cannon returned to tell us the story of ‘Oor Rabbie’ – all about the life of Robert Burns together with a recital of Tam O’Shanter. Some of us thought this was very spooky indeed! The show was fun and interactive, and we all really enjoyed it. On Thursday, we enjoyed watching each other recite our Scots poems. Miss Thomson was very pleased and impressed with the effort everyone had made to learn their poems off by heart – well done, P5! In the afternoon, we got our first taste of Taiko drumming. It was very loud!! We had been learning about how sound travels just before the performance, and were interested to find that we could feel the sound vibrations travelling through the floor! We loved the different drums, especially the huge big one, and can’t wait for our first workshop next week. On Friday, we enjoyed a fantastic assembly from the P6s – all about World War 2. We learned lots of things and we thought the short information films were very funny – thank you and well done to P6!
In maths, we continued with multiplication and we also began number talks. This week we looked at how our number bonds can help us solve more difficult problems – for example, if we know that 7 + 3 = 10 we can use this to help us solve trickier problems such as 57 + 3 or 70 + 30. We enjoyed sharing our strategies and finding out the different ways we can work out the same problem.
We’ve finished our display on ‘How Much Sugar Are You Having?’ which we think is a good way to help us think about what is in some of our favourite foods. Thank you to the parents/carers who helped investigate this for homework – I think some were also surprised at the sugar content of some foods (and sorry to the children in P5 who will no longer be allowed to eat Nutella!!) We hope you like the photo of our display.
We are all beginning to get a wee bit excited about next week! Some people are already packed and ready for camp! Please remember that it’s Rights Day on Monday, so we are allowed to wear our own clothes (no donation required). Have a great weekend!
