Welcome back to Term the P6 blog. This week in Primary 6 In Literacy we have continued with our class novel Wonder, we have researched Treacher Collins Syndrome and will create our own Sways to teach others about this Syndrome next week. In Maths we have moved onto Multiplication and Types of Triangles. Some people presented information to the class on their chosen ‘Sport’ or ‘Sports Personality’ In RE we completed on poster on our chosen charity.
We really enjoyed our Cosmic kids Yoga adventure in the hall, we are very good at all the moves! In maths we played Basket Ball Place Value where we counted in 10’s and 100’s. We are using smart pals to practice Big Maths Beat That challenges. Our peer reading groups are working well, P3’s really enjoy reading to P2’s and asking lots of questions on the story and pictures! Enjoy the October break!
P2/1 have settled really well and are enjoying being at school with their friends. Primary 1 have been learning their initial sounds and segmenting and blending to read three letter words. Primary 2 are getting on great with their vowel digraphs and Block 1 and 2 tricky words. In maths Primary 1 have been working on numbers within 10. We are building a good understanding of numbers by using our fingers, Numicon, cubes and Rekenreks to represent numbers. Primary 2 are developing skills in partitioning and place value. We have really enjoyed taking our numeracy work outdoors. We love our daily Number Talks and love sharing our strategies. In topic we went on a Tree Trail of our playground. We learned about all the different trees and collected leaves. We then counted them and made a picture.
Welcome back to the P6 Blog. This week is Primary 6:
It was Maths Week Scotland , we had fun testing our brains and completing the First Minister’s Maths challenge and the #StemGlasgow Maths Week challenges. We also look at the world of work and how Maths is used in different jobs.
We started out topic which is a study on the book ‘Wonder’ we looked at the book cover and predicted what we thought the book would be about. We found out about August and how you should ‘Never Judge a book by it’s Cover’.
In Art we investigated perspective and how to create perspective in a picture by using size and texture.
In ICT we looked at tinker Cad and how to create 3D building digitally.
We also started to create our own Word Publisher reports on Exercise.
In Literacy, we found out about Concrete poems and created our own shape poems.
Welcome to our P3/2 blog. We have been very busy this week! Our soft starts are very popular. We had an online assembly on the topic of anti-bullying; it had some very famous people in it. In maths we are enjoying using the smartboard, laptops and smart pals for BMBT Practice. We are concentrating on place value at the moments. In the afternoons we have been enjoying investigating Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; we have listened to most of the story, enjoyed playing in the chocolate kitchen and created lollies that would have made Willie Wonka proud.
In P.E. today we started our preparations for participating in the London 2020 Mini Marathon. P1,2 and 3 started by getting some of their running distance completed, P4 and 5 did some training for their run on Thursday and P6 and 7 helped with the organisation and preparations. All pupils will have the opportunity to complete 2.6 miles.
Primary 7 have had a great week completing STEM Titanic challenges. We had to design a lifejacket and ship that would not sink.
In numeracy and maths, we have been consolidating our knowledge of addition strategies. In writing we have learned about the features of a descriptive text and wrote about a persons, place or thing of interest. We will be looking at discussion text and trying to figure out who was to blame for Titanic sinking.
I am delighted to welcome my new class and report that all children are settling in really well to the new routines and responsibilities in Primary 7.
Thank you for all the hard work the children put into their House Captain, Netball and Football Captain speeches. We have started to votes and results will be announced soon.
P7 are enjoying the Titanic topic and have been learning how to draw portraits in art this week.
For maths, we are revising place value and rounding.
Next week we will be writing about a person, place or thing that is of interest to us . We will be learning about the features of a report and incorporating this into our writing.
