Primary Two have been very busy this week. We have been learning all about:
Literacy- We have been learning to write Acrostic poems. We wrote one all about fireworks. This term we are learning all about the ‘magic e’ rule (long vowel sounds) within phonics, we have been working very hard on our activity stations. We have also been learning all about adjectives to make our sentences more exciting.
Maths- Over the past fortnight we have been learning all about 2d shape. We are building on from what we learned in P1 by learning about the different properties of 2d shapes. We have also spent some time investigating patterns that 2d shapes can make. We went outside and made some of our own using sticks and leaves.
Topic- This week we have been learning all about light sources. We also learned all about the phases of the moon. We are keeping a moon diary to investigate the pattern of the moon phases.
We have been spending some time working with P1 and Mrs Taylor on our Nativity performance. We have picked up the songs well and are starting to learn our lines too. (Please continue to practice these at home.)
Welcome back to our P7 blog. We have been busy completing our Titanic topic and moving onto our new topic of War and Conflict. In Literacy we wrote a reflective essay called ‘ My Inspiration’ we talked about people who were inspirational to us and how they had helped us to become ‘Global Citizens’. In Maths we found out about strategies we can use in mental multiplication and long multiplication. In topic we completed our Titanic cabins. We started our War and Conflict topic by finding out about the reasons for WW1 and WW2. We dressed up for our fantastic Halloween parade.
Many fabulous cakes and biscuits were baked for the Saint Joseph’s family Bake-Off. Our Star baker was Lewis Munroe! Other winners were Rosa, Mark, Cassidy and Sam, Ellie and Kerr and Calum and Alfie. Well done to all for the terrific response and support. You helped raise £317 for school funds.
Primary 1 have had a busy week. We listened to the story of ‘Room on the Broom’ and sequenced the story using talking tins to record the events in the correct order. We dressed up for Halloween and paraded in front of the school, we looked fantastic! We designed a broom for the Witch to ride on using lego bricks. We walked to church to celebrate mass for All Saints Day.
This week has been filled with fun and festivities. We have been on battlefields, learning tactics to beat the Edward’s army, discovering what makes a good knight and even parading around the school dressed in our most frightful costumes. Through all of this we still managed to spend some quality time learning about multiplication and learning different ways to tackle multiplication questions. We also thought about the importance of choosing the best word when writing stories. We played lots of word association games to encourage us to think about the best word available rather than the safe word we know.
On Wednesday we all enjoyed coming to school in our Halloween costumes and parading around the hall. It was amazing to see everyone dressed up; Mr Reed looked even more scary than usual. Mr Reed is very sorry but due to ICT difficulties at this moment he is unable to upload photos.
On Thursday we all went to Mass, the walk to and from the church was cold but bright and made even more special by the most amazing autumn colours everywhere you looked.
Welcome back! Primary 1 are very excited about the term ahead. Our new topic is ‘Toys’ and we have set up a Puppet Theatre in the classroom. We have been learning all about 2d shape and have made shape pictures and played bingo. We sang some Halloween songs at music time with Mrs Bain. We had our St Joseph’s Bake off in the school this morning and the children brought in some amazing cakes!
Welcome back to P7. This week we have been trying to finish off all of work so we could show it to our parents. In Literacy -we finished out Titanic Newspapers and started our ‘ Who Was To Blame’ arguments. In Maths we investigated Multiples, Factors and Primes and 3D shapes. In topic we looked at the lessons learnt from the sinking of the Titanic ; how shipping rules have been changed and how boats are much safer now. We also completed a STEM challenge where we had to design a lifejacket for a can of soup. The soup had to float for 90 seconds! In Mindfulness we though about worries and how to manage them. Phew we’ve been busy and are looking forward to our October break.
Primary one have been observing the signs of Autumn in our playground this week. We went on an Autumn Scavenger Hunt in the playground and listened to the story of ‘The Very Helpful Hedghog’. We did leaf rubbings and made pictures using leaves. We took part in a LEPRA workout to raise money which was really fun and for a great cause! We got the opportunity to use an apple press by using the apples picked in our playground to make apple juice, it was delicious! We used numicon to continue to develop our number sense within 10 and beyond.
This week we have been very busy in class, we have enjoyed a fun filled workout to raise money for LEPRA. We took part in lots of races and exercises. The girls did on this occasion beat the boys.
This week we had the chance to show off our writing skills. Mr Reed introduced us to punctuation Kung Fu!!!! Which we all enjoyed taking part in. We then spent time planning our story about Stirling Bridge. We all pretended that we were soldiers preparing for battle.
We designed a Christmas card which we have brought home to share with you to see if you would like to have our designs made into Christmas gifts and cards.
On Friday, the gardening gang borrowed an apple press and used it to make apple juice from the apples collected from the school. It was absolutely amazing; we all enjoyed our freshly made organic apple juice.
We also used some of the older apples that were not good enough to eat to maske bird feeders. We all had great fun creating our very individual feeders.
