Write an Exposition – We wrote about why we thought John Balliol should not have been king.
Multiply using the grid method
Measure in km and metres using a metre stick and a trundle wheel – we thought about how we would need measuring skills if we were builders, architect and engineers.
We found out how the SWI started, we studied pictures of Scottish soldiers shields and thought about how we would make our own shields. We are looking forward to making them next week!
Found out how to write a Recount and we used our ICT skills to write a Newspaper report about the death of Margaret Maid of Norway.
Worked on Long Multiplication and Doubling and Halving strategies, we thought about where we could use Multiplication strategies – we thought we would definitely need to use Multiplication if we wanted to be a Scientist or and Engineer!
Studied pictures of Kings and Queens and created our own pictures.
Thought about the question “Who Would Be King?” and why Edward 1 choose John Balliol.
This week in P5 we discussed Fireworks and the safety rules we should follow. We had a visit from the NSPCC and found out how we should ‘Speak out to Stay Safe’. In topic we carried out research on Margaret Maid of Norway. In Literacy we investigated the features of a Recount text and wrote our own newspaper recount on the death of Margaret Maid of Norway. Then we thought about what would happen next? ‘Who Would be King? In Art we completed our crowns and started our ‘Who Would be King/Queen?’ pictures. Next week we are going to find out how we can blend watercolours to create different tones in our pictures. In Maths we looked at the multiplication strategies we could use to multiply a 3 digit number by a 1 digit number and a 2 digit number by a 2 digit number and how we would use these strategies in real life. In French we used post-its to identify parts of our body. Phew..finally we learned new skills at Rugby!
Hi everyone, welcome back to our P5 blog. This week we have enjoyed many spooky activities in our classroom. We investigated lots of scary adjectives, similes, metaphors and personification and then used them to create a spooky setting for our ‘Haunted House’ Story. We looked at symmetry in Maths and used it to help us completed some Halloween pictures. In Art we found our how to blend different shades of paint to create a ‘Spooky sky and Haunted House’ picture. We started our new ‘Wallace and Bruce’ topic and found out about the events leading up to the Scottish Wars of Independence. We thought about the role of Kings and Queens and why they were important in 13th century Scotland. We created our own timelines and a family tree for Robert the Bruce. We enjoyed dressing up for Halloween!
Over the last two weeks we have continued to investigate the ‘Body’. We read body books, we researched using the ipads, w e built our own Skeletons. We found out how to insert pictures into Word and Powerpoint files and started to create our own fact files on a chosen ‘Body System’. We found out about how to round numbers and estimate answers. We have carried out our own research at home about the brain. We also created models at home to show interesting things that are happening in the world!
Welcome to Primary 5. We hope you’ve had a lovely summer. We are all settled in Primary 5 and are looking forward to telling you about our learning this year.

This week we have been having fun preparing for next year, we have been thinking about topics and what we would like to learn about. We have been busy creating our first display for our new classroom even before we break up.
On Friday we made a life size model of an osprey nest and found it amazing that it was so big. We managed to fit our entire class into it and there was room left over.
A practically perfect performance of Mary Poppins. If you reach for the heavens you get the stars thrown in! What a lot of stars we have…the performance was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious !
This week has been amazing, we have been working so hard towards our whole school production of Mary Poppins. It was great fun to be able to perform to so many adults we all felt like stars.
Today has been our moving on day, we went to our new classroom to see what it was like. We are pleased to be having Mr Reed again next year and we talked about some of our highlights from the year and some of our hopes and dreams for next year. Mr Reed has already hinted at some of the topics that we may be looking at. We have already hinted at some school trips that we would like to go on next year.

Dear Parents and carers, I am delighted to be moving on with the children next year and building on the wonderful year that we have shared together. The children have already been keen to plan ahead the year and what topics they would like to cover. As we all approach the end of the year, I would like to thank you for all the work you do with your children, I have greatly enjoyed hearing and reading about the various homework tasks.
It has been another fun filled week here at St. Joseph’s. We have been busy enjoying lots of fun learning. Over the week we have been regularly looking in at the osprey chicks and marvelling at how much they grow every day. We witnessed the adults bringing in fish and even a huge brown trout which was quickly gobbled up by the birds.
It was a real treat to have ‘Fishy Music’ come into school to teach us some new songs which we then sung in our very own concert.
We have been continuing our learning about Oliver Twist and finally got to meet Fagin, we had lots of fun getting to know this amazing and interesting character.
We have been learning about time during our maths sessions and are growing in confidence at using the 24 hour clock.
Thursday was our outdoor box play day and we had such fun using our imagination to build structures of all types. For some of us it was a great opportunity to see how many boxes we could actually fit in.
Friday we had our very own launch party as we formally introduce Free Write Fridays not only to the rest of the school but to all the schools in our cluster. Mr Reed has been so impressed with our work during these sessions he has not stopped telling teachers from other schools how amazing our work has been. We launched with a party in our class and the opportunity to use pens that we had made into quills. Mr Reed has said that our launch party will be seen by the other schools as we will be tweeting what we love about these sessions.
