Week beginning the 3rd of September

Primary 1 have had a great week.  We have been learning to read along with ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ and produced a story map to retell the events in the correct order.  We have drawn a detailed drawing of a bear to add to our display.  We have been counting natural materials to match numbers up to 10 in the playground.  We have been continuing to learn initial sounds in the context of three letter words.  We love reading stories in our library.

Week beginning the 27th of August

Primary 1 have had a great start to their journey at St Joseph’s!  They have enjoyed investigating and exploring their new environment and have settled in really well. The Primary 7 Buddies have been absolutely fantastic helping the Primary 1’s with the playtime and lunchtime routines.  We have started learning our new sounds a, t, p and n, and have been using ‘Fred Talk’ to blend the sounds together to make words.

Week Beginning 9th October

During our last week in Primary 1 before the October break we have been enjoying more Colourful Consonant games and keeping our Pupil Profiles up to date. We have been writing a personal story about our weekend and investigating 2D shapes. Listening to Katie Morag stories inspired us to create kilts; we think Katie Morag would love wearing them! One of our P7 buddies wrote a special story and came to read it to her P1 buddy. During our Class Talks we have found out lots of information from where family members live in Ireland to Panda’s and their habits. In RE we thanked God for the wonder of Autumn. In PE we have been practicing ball skills. On Thursday we had a reward afternoon which was great fun. Mrs McGonigal came in to share the story of Little Red Riding Hood; we have lots of actions for the characters now! We have had a busy, but fun, first term. Have a restful October holiday, see you all after the break!
