#BlackoutTuesday

Hello boys and girls,

You may have heard the mention of ‘Blackout Tuesday’ yesterday, or if you’ve been watching the news you will have no doubt heard about the ‘Black Lives Matter’ (BLM) movement and the ongoing protests in America.

Blackout Tuesday: What is it and how are people taking part? https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52893017

It is important to remember that this is an important worldwide issue and we must always make a conscious effort to support and uplift others by doing anything we can. As well as this we must always be making an active effort to overcome bigotry, prejudice and racist behaviour.

I’ve created 2 optional tasks, which I would love for you to try, but I ask that you put your best effort into them.

TASK 1
Make a poster for the Black Lives Matter movement.

TASK 2
Research BLM, racism or an important figure/leader who has advocated for anti-racism of any kind. You can create a poster, fact file, PowerPoint, Sway or video to present the information you have.
Some influential figures include: Martin Luther King Jr; Rosa Parks; Phillis Wheatley; and Barack Obama.

Please upload into your personal folders or feel free to share here or on Twitter @HarrysmuirPS

🃏🎲P2 Maths Game – 21s🎲🃏

Hello Primary 2! How are you?🤔

A bit cloudy today🌦but on the good side, the plants are not so thirsty – yeh!🌱🥀🌷

Here’s a video of me explaining (or trying to!) the card game “21s” as mentioned on this week’s Maths Learning Grid. I was just thinking, if you don’t have cards🃏, you can use dice instead or for a change🎲.

Have fun!😊

Love from Mrs Duff🐘

Find the Worm Brainteaser

Wednesday 3rd June 2020

Here are the answers from yesterday’s quiz.  How many Scots words did you get right?

Mawkit (filthy), eicht (eight), fower (four), muckle (large), dreich (dull), glaikit (stupid), bide (stay), clarty (dirty), bairn (child), cludgie (toilet), wheesht (quiet), wabbit (unwell), bahookie (bum).

I have a brainteaser for you for today’s challenge. Can you find the worm in amongst the flock of birds? Apparently it takes on average 30 seconds to find it. Can you do it quicker than this ? (I’ll post the answer in tomorrow’s challenge)

We’ve nae fun, nae joy, nae richts, nae power.
When, can somebody tell me, when will aw this be ower?

Here are some other Scots words…can you find out what they mean? (Just answer by commenting on this post.)

NASA and the International Space Station

Did anyone manage to see the Launch of SpaceX over the weekend or see it pass over Scotland? If not, here’s a clip of the launch to watch.

Does anyone know who the third “astronaut” to accompany Doug Hurley and Robert Behnken was?

Here are some challenges and a ‘virtual field trip’ which will help extend your knowledge of NASA and the International Space Station. Let me know how you get on!
