Good Morning Primary 1 and Primary 2/1.
Today we are going to have a little look at our ‘high frequency words’. These are very important and come up a lot in our reading books.

Below are our ‘high frequency word’ grids (these are the same grids that are in your homework jotters). Please check which words you know already (starting with the first 100) and then choose 4 or 5 new words to practise today. These words should not be ‘sounded out’ but should be memorised by sight alone.

Second-100-High-Frequency-Words

Third-100-High-Frequency-Words

Here are some fun activities to try at home:

  1. Read a story book  or listen along to an audio book with an adult. Can you spot some common words? Perhaps you could put your hands on your head each time you hear the word ‘and’ or ‘the’.
  2. Make flashcards with an adult using paper and pens. Can you test each other?
  3. Can you write your common words in colourful rainbow letters?
