This week we have had exciting learning times inside our classroom and outside! On Wednesday we went outside for a numeracy scavenger hunt. We had great fun as we challenged each other to make numbers from things we could find, then do sums! We used sticks, grass, leaves, pine cones…anything we could find! To make sure we protected our environment, we weren’t allowed to break things off of the trees, or pick flowers, we had to find what we needed!

Inside learning included our second visit from baby Allie for our Roots of Empathy course. This time we were learning more about what Allie can do now and how she communicates with her mum. She was much better at sitting up on her Mummy’s lap and her head wasnt as floppy. Allie was wide awake this time!

Hannah ” Allie looked at me, she liked my hairband. It was much better because she was awake!”

Eve ” Allie has grown a bit but she is still very small and very cute”

Next week we are looking forward to spending more time working on our business  ideas and making the things to sell from our stall at the christmas fair.

On Thursday afternoon, Mrs Sibbald and Miss Smith took us to join with other children in P3, from schools  in the Whitburn Cluster, to a Bench ball festival. We have been learning the rules in our own Gym times, and playing against each other, so it was good to meet with other children to play against them. We play as Australia in these festivals. Team 1 Australia came 2nd in their group and Team 2 Australia came 3rd in their group! We all had great fun!

We are enjoying hearing more from our class novel ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and in art we are making our own wardrobes, whose doors open to reveal magical lands!

We had a fantastic day working with the West Lothian Numeracy Development Team yesterday.  A group of our Primary 5s, 6s and 7s worked with children from Greenrigg Primaries 5 to 7 on a variety of problems to prepare for the Scottish Maths Council Maths Challenge Competition.  They worked well in teams, discussed their ideas, used strategies and solved many many different problems together.

This week in Primary 6/7 we have been learning about new things in gymnastics.  We have been trying out our skills in rotation- we have been jumping off a horse in gym (not an animal!) and on to a mat, using a springboard and doing different types of rotations on different parts of our body.

In Topic work we were writing and putting together scripts for the scenes we created in our black houses. These scripts made up three different scenes. We worked in small groups and wrote these scripts ourselves. We created videos of these and are planning to make them in to a movie later in the term.

This week we all took part in a lesson about “The Flu”- we discussed the pros and cons of the flu vaccine and learned about who gets the flu vaccine and talked about why and how it helps us.

This week we have been selling Pudsey Keyrings and Pudsey Wristbands to raise money for this year’s Children in Need appeal. We are delighted to say we ran out of stock! We wrote poems about Pudsey and shared them at the assembly we led on Friday, Children in Need day.  The whole school joined in and helped to raise even more money, by paying a fine for not wearing school uniform but  dressing up as heroes, Pudsey and all sorts of others things.

In class we have started a new class novel. It is called ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’. It is exciting and we are looking forward to hearing about Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy’s adventures.

Last week Primary 6/7 were doing their very best to raise money for Poppy Scotland by selling toast at our”Toastastic Tuck-shop”.  It was another highly successful adventure for the class.  They learned or practiced skills such as communication, money handling, hygiene rules, food preparation rules and patience.

Primary 6/7 would like to say thank-you to all the pupils, staff and parents for buying toast and poppies which helped us to raise £183.25 for Poppy Scotland.

On Wednesday we had our 2nd Roots of Empathy (ROE) class time. Our new ROE teacher visited us for the first time…her name is Allie. She came with her Mummy, Mrs Boyd. Baby Allie is going to teach us how a baby grows, develops and communicates with her Mummy and the world around her . Allie will visit us once every 3 weeks, so that we can watch her as she changes. In between times our other ROE teacher Laura, will talk to us about Allie her development. Together we will learn how a baby shares their feelings.

As part of our talking, listening and ICT work, we have created an audio book review of our class novel ‘Mr Stink’ by David Walliams.  We now know how to record and insert audio into a PowerPoint, how to change the slide design and add new slides and how to add images from either a camera or the Internet.  Here is our finished book review for you to look at and listen to.  Click on the link below (you will need to have PowerPoint on your computer to allow it to open):
