Update

Dear Parents,/Carers,
As part of the Council’s agreed budget, the stand alone nurseries will now come under the leadership and management responsibility of a current primary head teacher. Having considered all of the available possibilities the agreed structure will now be that Bathgate Early Years Centre  will come under the leadership of the Head Teacher of Balbardie Primary School.  In order to support the management structure of three establishments, head teachers will be supported by two Depute Head Teachers. The personnel for these posts will be established over the coming weeks.

Over the last few weeks our context for learning has been all about ‘castle adventures’.  We introduced our castle into our physical area within the nursery and provided the children with dressing up costumes such as knights, princesses and horses so they could act our fairy tales within the castle.

Mrs Bett helped some children within the quiet room to create their own castles using junk modelling; they used empty tissue boxes, kitchen roll tubes, yoghurt pots and created their very own flags to place on top of their castle.   Fantastic Job!

The children have been really enjoying the experience of castles and traditional tales, some small groups have been reading all about Jack and the beanstalks, and have even planted their own bean into cotton wool to watch it grow – hopefully they grow really tall.  The children have also been discussing what they need to do to ensure their beans grow; ED told us “it needs lots of water to grow tall”.

Other small groups of children have been reading traditional tales of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Rapunzel.  We have also been practicing traditional nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty.  To extend learning we will be exploring more fairy tale adventures.   Keep an eye on our parents’ board for fun things to do at home.

The children also took part in World Book Day on 8th March – dressing up as a character from their favourite storybook we had a variety of costumes from; my granny is a pirate, superheroes, princess and sharing a shell.

A busy week

We have had a busy week at Bathgate West Nursery; we took part in a vote to decide what our favourite theme was for the Newlands Day Procession.

Using gold stars each child voted placing the gold star at their favourite one, the outcome of the vote was counted by the children and Mrs Bett. This year we have picked to walk as ‘under the sea’.

This week we have also been talking about different elements within the world around us such as volcanos and lava, the snow melting because of the sunshine. We have also been discussing what other things we could melt using our fire pit or heat, therefore we will be focusing on the World Around Us as we return next week from other February Break.

On Thursday we took part in the book bug gifting event – gifting our Ante-preschool children with their Explorer gift bags from a very special guest…BookBug!

The children took part in reading The Disgusting Sandwich story and were invited into their small groups to recreate their very own slug slime disgusting sandwiches. There were some disgusting creations made by the children.

A busy time at BWNS

This week in nursery we have been continuing to learn all about Scotland, the children are very interested in this topic and enjoy practicing the Scots nursery rhymes, we even perform them on our stage!  The children have also shown interest in going to the moon on a rocket ship – we even spotted the moon outside nursery in the morning!  We then cut out circle shapes and coloured them in to make the moon, we have been researching the other planets within the solar system so we can create them.  The children have also been looking round the globe to find countries they have visited and want to learn more about.
This week we have also become very helpful superheroes; we transformed our physical area into a superhero fast car to help us catch the bad guys – we coloured in our fire wheels and stuck them onto the tunnel to make it look like it’s going super-fast.  During this we have been talking about how superheroes are helpful – because they don’t just catch bad guys.  The children could share their ideas and have been expressing how they are helpful heroes at nursery.
“We can help people if their stuck and can’t do it”.
“We can share our toys”.
“Helpful heroes help tidy the toys up”.

Welcome Back

Welcome back and a very Happy New Year from everyone at Bathgate West Nursery School, we are excited to be back and are already getting stuck into lots of different activities.
This week we have been learning about Scotland, the children have enjoyed learning some Scottish songs and phrases.  We have been discussing different types of tartan and have been creating our own tartan using different bits of coloured paper to stick together making our very own tartan patterns.  The children have also been practicing their highland dancing for Burns Day.
