P3 – Friday 6th March

We have a great week celebrating World Book. We have listened to our favourite author – Tom Fletcher reading a prologue. We have brought in a discussed our favourite books and we have taken part in some reading activities, such as character interviews, book marks, and re-writing a blurb and much more. To end the week we all participated in dressing up as our adjectives!

In class we had:

Musical, messy, sporty, cold, stripy, sparkly, glittery, bright, soft,important and arty. Well done Primary 3!

Great Green

Exploring some of the Ancient Egyptian Gods and what they look like and their powers.

Think Pink

Remembering the minutes in an hour/half hour, how many days in a each month and converting 12hour time into digital time.

This weeks Lead Learners are Harris and Sky. Well done!!!!

Primary 1 – Friday 6th March

We have had a very exciting week in Primary 1 rehearsing our assembly and we can’t wait to surprise our visitors and teachers in 2 weeks.

We were writing a story using our new Mighty Writer board about a little dog who runs away. You could ask us about what happened in the story.

Today we had lots of fun in our World Book Day costumes and we shared our adjectives with the class. We had fantastic adjectives like mythical, sparkly, beautiful, heroic, pink, strong and sporty.

 

Great Green: “What went well…”

-In Maths, we have been adding and subtracting using concrete materials.

-In Literacy, our sound this week was ‘ai’ and we have been reading words like pain, rain and brain.

 

Think Pink: “Even better if…”

-In Numeracy, we want to keep practising our sums in our messy maths jotters.

-In Literacy, we want to use Mighty Writer board to write another story.

 

Lead Learners:

This weeks lead learners did a great job, well done Nia and Irha.

Next weeks lead learners are Harris and Alice for showing very good listening skills in the classroom.

P5 – Friday 6th March

We have enjoyed the warmer days and the sunshine this week during our Daily Mile and Outdoor Learning. Our little spider plants are liking the warmth of the sun coming through the window too.

Great Green – ‘What went well’

– Wow – we had a lot of ‘adjectives’ in our room on World Book Day – artistic, sporty, spotty, professional, obsessed, cosy…… We had lots of fun in our House groups with quizzes, illustrations and storytelling.
-Volleyball skills were practised in P.E. – using our hands in the correct way for digging, setting, and serving.

Think Pink – ‘Even better if’

– think about different words which can be used when we try to persuade others.
– time flies when you are having fun!! – read the time using a clock with hands (analogue) and a digital clock (only numbers). You never know just how much fun you will have. :0)

Lead Learners.

Their tasks will be to
– monitor the library – tidying and sorting books in order of authors names.
– making sure equipment is left in a neat, safe way, both in the class and in the open area.

P4 Friday 6th March 2026

What an exciting range of adjectives in P4 for World Book Day!

Great Green (things that are going well)

We wrote some fabulous Spring poems this week.

IT has been used effectively in the classroom to support learning in Literacy and Numeracy.

Think Pink (things that were a bit tricky)

We are continuing to learn about the key figures and events in the Scottish Wars of Independence.

This week we were learning the French words for animals.

This week’s Lead Learners are Myleigh and Jay who showed our school values of kindness and respect. Well done!

Meldrum Messages – Friday 27th February 2026

We’ve had another positive week here at Meldrum.  A group of P5 and P6 pupils volunteered at St Andrews Church soup kitchen this week and will do this for the next few weeks, demonstrating the Curriculum for Excellence capacities of being effective contributors and responsible citizens in our local community.  Our P6 and P7 netball team took part in some matches yesterday and showed excellent teamwork, well done to everyone who took part!  We had the first session of a P6 and P7 football after school club which went well too.

School Uniform – we are noticing that some children are not coming to school in their uniform and would ask that you support us in trying to uphold our standards of pupils wearing uniform.  There is no obligation for children to wear jumpers with school badges, a plain red or black jumper/cardigan are absolutely fine however we do have some of our children wearing jumpers with slogans which we would ask are kept for home.  If anyone requires help and support with uniform, please contact the office and speak to either Mrs Stephenson, Mrs Brown or myself in confidence and we can assist with this.

P1 – we are going to have a student from Strathclyde University coming to work in P1.  She will work alongside Miss Jones and will support in the class and will work with small groups on learning activities.  She is with us for 1 day per week for a few weeks, building up to more days as her placement goes on.  Her name is Miss Lockhart and we look forward to welcoming her next week.

We will also be welcoming a student teacher who is currently on placement in the drama department at Deans Community High School to our P7 class this Tuesday and the following Tuesday too.  She will be observing Mrs Lang but will also deliver a drama activity in P5, P6 and P7 during her time here.  Her name is Miss Lusted and we are pleased to have the opportunity to have her in the school.

Tuesday – Student teacher from DCHS  in school

Wednesday – Miss Lockhart from Strathclyde University working in P1 today; opportunity for any pupils who have applied for P1 place at Meldrum to visit the school 4pm (not required if you attended the December drop in); Parent Council meeting Teams 6pm

Thursday – P6/7 football after school club

Friday – World Book Day dress as an adjective event

P6 27/02/2026

  1. This weeks Spanish lesson was on colours.
  2. We had a sporty week! There was a netball competition, the start of the football sessions and the badminton sessions provided by the high school this week.
  3. We found out our groups for the Euroquiz competition.

Great Green

  • On Tuesday we learnt a new song on the ukelele called ‘Animal Fair’.
  • We started using Reading Coach online and produced a high accuracy percentage.
  • A great sense of achievement from lots of people trying more challenging questions in Daily Maths.
  • We demonstrated a growth mindset fabulously!

Think Pink

  • Make questions clearer when speaking with others.
  • Continue to uplevel our persuasive language in writing.

Lead Learner Update

Our Lead Learners for next week are Sara and Violet for demonstrating fantastic growth mindset which has allowed them to achieve lots this week!

P3 – Friday 27th February

This week we have delved into our Ancient Egypt topic by learning about the types of jobs and clothing the Egyptians had and how they traded goods. We also had fun in outdoor learning exploring hieroglyphics and working out the puzzle in orienteering.

Great Green

Telling the time of O’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. And working out simple time durations.

Think Pink

We need quicker recall of our 4 and 6 times tables.

Primary 1 – Friday 26th February

We have had a fantastic week in Primary 1!

We have been learning about weight and using scales to weigh different items.

We also used our new Mighty Writer board to say verbal stories.

We used scales to measure Rice Krispies for our cupcakes!

-In Maths, we know that you use kilograms and grams to weigh things.

-In Literacy, our sound this week was ‘th’ and we have been reading words like three, moth, teeth and tooth.

-In Numeracy, we want to practise our adding and subtracting.

-In Literacy, we are excited to use our Mighty Writer board to write our own story.

Primary 2 – Friday 27th February 2026

Primary 2 have had another great week and are getting ready for Spring!

We have continued this week with our sounds and writing sentences using “the” independently or with little support. We have been learning “y” as the “ee” sound. This sound is found in many words such as happy, sleepy, cosy, rainy, baby, dirty, dusty, very, scary, crazy, lazy, city and many more…

As well as telling the time, we have started to investigate measuring using non-standard units, cubes, counters, sticks etc. We are starting to use standard units, thinking about centimetres when measuring length. We have also carried out a class survey to find out which modes of transport are the most and least common.

Great Green: “What went well…”

-We have been continuing to work on telling the time, using o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to, making links between analogue and digital. We have been playing a game in class which can be used to practise our skills! If looking to access the game, start on “1. Read time to the hour”, and only move on to “2. Read time to the hour and half hour” when comfortable with this.

Telling the Time – Mathsframe

-We have started to explore different modes of transport, making links with Science outcomes, we tested out toy cars on ramps with different materials. The children correctly predicted which material would allow the toy cars to travel the furthest. Our ramps were fluffy, rough, soft and wooden. We used a metre stick to measure the distance travelled in centimetres. The fluffy material made the cars travel the least and the wooden ramp made the toy cars travel the farthest.

Think Pink: “Even better if…”

-We are still working on our narrative writing, making sure we include adjectives to describe our characters and not to use a full stop before “and”. Next Friday, March 6th, we are celebrating World Book Day by dressing up as an adjective. Some examples are: sparkly, sporty, cosy, wild. Many of the children have fantastic ideas how to do this and I can’t wait to see their ideas come to life!

-We are going to look at data handling, using our transport surveys to create pictograms, we will also use the information from our forces experiment to create bar and line graphs.

Our lead learners next week are Callum and Annie for consistently working hard in all areas of the curriculum.

P7 Friday 27th February

It has been a sporty week in P7. On Tuesday we had a visit from Evie Wills, a Scottish Woman’s International Rugby player. She spoke about her journey to international success as well as her nursing career. We took this opportunity to develop our knowledge about the World of Work. Evie was very inspirational and was able to answer all our questions.

Last night the Netball Team participated in round two of the inter-school netball tournament. Meldrum was a very strong team and easily won both their games (4-0 and 4-1).

Also, last night was the first football after school club. The boys are looking forward to playing as a team and participating in some inter-school games soon.

Great Green (Things that went well)

  • Scale drawings of our height to put on a display to demonstrate the average height of P7.

Think Pink (Things we want to get better at)

  • Sharing using a ratio (This was our Numeracy Transition topic this week).

This week our Lead Learners are Jessica and Jason for demonstrating kindness and inclusion… Well done!

They have decided that the value they will be looking for next week is honesty.
